We got engaged shortly after moving to San Diego, and were nervous about finding a great florist to work with, given our lack of local knowledge and personal connections. When it was time to leave our wedding, I was so sad to leave the flowers behind in their prime, but Hannah told me the next day that our flowers had been donated to a senior living home to be enjoyed by all of the patients and nurses. Let's start by saying i'm a wedding photographer and not the client. This review is coming from a professional industry opinion. Hannah was a breath of fresh air for Rob & Torie's wedding held at Darlington House in La Jolla. Setup was completed with plenty of time to spare and a TON of time for me to photograph all the pretty little details which is important in telling the wedding day story. I will be referring Modern Bouquet to my future brides and hope that we work together often in the future. In terms of smoothness of the day - it went off perfectly. Regarding aesthetics - the floral arrangements were beautifully curated. They had a very romantic, garden-y vibe that made the venue light up. My husband and I got married at Ponte on December 7, 2013 and I'm writing to share my amazing experience with Hannah from Modern Bouquet. When my then fiancé and I first got engaged, we sat down and made a list of our priorities for the big day. The number one thing on my list was the flowers. I envisioned big, lush arrangements full of my favorite flowers. During the next few weeks, we met with a number of florists and after my first few minutes with Hannah, I knew that I had found the perfect match! Not only was she so personable and fun but she immediately knew what I wanted and was able to articulate all of the visions I had in my head. She had worked at Ponte before and was very familiar with the venue (which was very important to me). I later found out that some of the sample pictures I had brought her for our first meeting were her work from other weddings! Working with her over the next few months was great. She was always quick to communicate with me and kept things on track without ever being overwhelming. She was even nice enough to work with me on the pricing. I never felt like I had to sacrifice things due to cost. Hannah was so accommodating when my wedding planner and I set up an appointment with her a few weeks before the wedding to finalize the details and see a sample arrangement. When I saw the sample she had prepared, I was blown away. The arrangement was so much more than I could have ever imagined and confirmed that we picked the perfect florist! It certainly help put me at ease in the days leading up to the wedding. Hannah shined even more when my wedding planner had to contact her the day before the wedding as last minute bad weather caused us having to tent our outdoor ceremony. Despite my concerns, Hannah saved the day and made the tent beautiful! She added an abundance of beautiful candles and flower arrangements that blew everyone away. It makes me sad to write this. The color scheme was completely off and not at all what we had discussed or like the pictures I sent. A lot of the flowers were wilted and some were brown. All the boutonnieres were wilted and completely the wrong color. Not just the wrong shade, but a completely different color from what I had asked for. Could not be happier with the flowers Hannah did for our wedding yesterday. (Yes, yesterday - so good I'm yelping about it today.) She handled everything - centerpieces, bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, head wreaths for flower girls. It was all just phenomenal. Even though I didn't have a lot of specific "musts" in terms of the event flowers, it was more the vibe that was important. Lush whites, greens, the occasional splash of pale pink. Earthy elements. Herbs like rosemary used. She just got it and when I walked into the venue the day of, all set up, I said, "Yep, nailed it." Some things I specifically loved about Hannah and her work: 1. I met with her once. That's all that was needed to feel comfortable fully giving her the reins. I showed a few pics of things I liked. She asked the right questions to probe deeper. She made some awesome suggestions (oh my god, the wood stump centerpiece holders were ridiculously cool), and she always was listening to what I needed. After that one meeting, I trusted her completely. 2. She was great about helping me stay in my budget -- where we could cut/downsize, or where another flower could be used that was less expensive but still give the same effect, etc. 3. She handled last minute changes. I had a previously not-attending bridesmaid tell me she COULD make it five days before. One more bouquet? No problem. 4. She incorporated personal items (lace from my mom's wedding dress and Botswana beads) into my bouquet. 5. She took care of everything day of - the set up, the pick up at 10:30 pm. We just had to look at the pretty results. 6. She communicated the day of - letting me know everything was set up at the site and looking great. Can't recommend her enough. read more

I love Hannah from Modern Bouquet. She has amazing taste in flowers and made my wedding centerpieces and bridal/bridesmaid bouquets absolutely gorgeous! I didn't have very specific requirements. I went to her because I loved her style and all we discussed were our wedding colors and how I wanted a more classic look rather than wildflower look to my arrangements. She did the rest! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of a few reasons. Hannah doesn't respond to emails right away. It usually takes her 7-10 days to get back to you. Also, she ended up changing our ceremony aisle flowers from themed flowers to just ivory flowers, which wasn't the original plan. I didn't mind, but it was just not what was stated in the original contract. Also we had discussed corsages for mom's, but they came as boutonnieres instead. Again, no big deal to me, but I could see how a more controlling bride would really go crazy by this. Overall, everything looked great for the wedding and I was very pleased. I just wish communication was better and if she felt certain changes would look better, it would have been nice to know prior to the wedding. read more

Where do I even start?! Hannah was an absolute godsend and played such a huge role in making our dreams for our wedding day come to life. We chose an outdoor vineyard venue, loving the natural beauty of the space, and hoped for organic, natural florals to complement. From our first conversation with Hannah, it was evident that she totally understood our vision and was excited about using her creative magic to make it happen. She was SO accommodating and willing to work with our vision. As an example--I had envisioned a simple hairstyle with fresh flowers in my hair for my wedding day, but I wasn't able to find any photos that perfectly captured that vision. I also knew it was going to be HOT on my wedding day. Hannah offered to bring fresh wired flowers, a fresh flower comb, and a faux flower comb (which she delivered to our hotel room!) to ensure I would have an option that matched my vision and lasted the whole day. This review is LONG overdue! Hannah did the flowers for my August wedding at the Omni in La Costa, and she blew EVERY expectation out of the water! I was a bit hesitant in the beginning, as I was on a pretty tight budget and actually hired Hannah after only a phone conference...but she was so sweet, had amazing ideas, seemed to understand what I was looking for and was willing and able to work with our initial budget. Months later, my mom and I finally got to meet Hannah to discuss/finalize details and I knew I had made the right decision choosing her! She was kind, and beyond talented! She came to the meeting equipped with center piece vase choices and hundreds of ideas and suggestions! The meeting was a complete success, as we were able to narrow down my floral Pinterest dreams on paper and we were set to go! We had originally set a pretty strict budget for flowers, as it initially wasn't a huge deal in my mind, but after sitting down with Hannah and discussing the different options, it was a given that to get what I wanted, we would need to increase our budget! I didn't entirely know what to expect when I got to our venue the day of, since I had changed the plan for the flowers around a few times (I honestly didn't really know what I was doing) and finally just realized I would be better off letting Hannah do her thing.
