Engraver Dave Custom Jewelry

Engraver Dave Custom Jewelry

I had an old but precious brass Zippo lighter I wanted engraved. It had to be special. AND it had…read moreto be onsite. Of all the typical places, i.e. jewelry stores, trophy engravers, etc. This is what I encountered (one or more of these). 1. It'd have to be sent out. 2. It was lazer engraved (a very shallow etch that burns changing the color of letters to black). I have nothing against this per se but it's not what I wanted on the lighter. 3. Fonts are very limited selection. I wanted more unique custom. 4. I wanted the placement very different then horizontal/vertical. I drove by the place that yelp had listed and I found out that Dave has moved. I finally go old school and CALL. I left a message and he got right back to me. After telling him what I had and what I wanted he told me the charge is $6 a letter $60 min very quickly because a lot of locals hang up on him. So basically you're getting 10 letters for $60 and then it goes $6 per. He gave me his resume over the phone which is quite impressive- and the method he uses to engrave- old school with 20th century modernity. He takes clients locally by appt only. The bulk of his business is people shipping THEIR precious items to him. He was very accommodating in arranging an appt for me given my rush circumstance- he had a heart. When I arrived at his workshop he apologized for state of his workshop- Martha Stewart does not live there. No, it's what you'd expect from a real tradesman. We sit at his desk while he analyzes the lighter and gives me a book of scripts to peruse. One caught my eye but he says that will be extra (shading and such), but I didn't want that one EXACTLY. I came up with an amalgamation via the book and my description. It was font ala carte :-) We settled in for the lengthy precision placement of the characters. It wasn't traditional by any stretch. I specifically wanted a character to be halved on the lid and the body. Preparation was the bulk of the time. Then the actual engraving takes place. He loves to talk about his craft and you can tell he absolutely takes great pride in his finished one of a kind pieces. So when the lighter was finished, I was absolutely blown away by the beauty. It had the perfect amount of depth to compliment it's age, no puddles or pooling. It is gorgeous. When I presented it to my husband (who could find fault with Michelangelo). He loved it. Told me like 5x over days randomly as he used it. Even remarked that his pistols (engraved ones) look like a 5 yo did them. Which Dave does those too. His prices are NOT cheap, take your cheap stuff to the stock guys. His is the kind you take your priceless, heirloom or sentimental items to. He does odd shaped items, scenes and anything you can imagine. His facebook name IMHO is not befitting the scope of his offerings. www.facebook.com/DuckBandWeddingRings

All of the knifes are displayed and you can easily pick them up look at them. The Bad Upon walking into Timber Knifes no one said hello welcome or can I help you find something. There was a couple of people talking and laughing towards the front door. My first thought was they were customers because they would have greeted us. BUT i was wrong its was a worker talking to his friend. So, fast forward 5 minutes and no one still has said anything to me or my family. Then walks in a local man I assume because every worker in the place greeted him. Even the ower of Timber Knifes comes out and talks to the guy about steel blades. So after some time the ower yells to a worker "hey sharpen this balde for free". Then the ower walks right past me and my family and does not say a word. So at this point i think forget this place and turn to leave. Then someone asked me if I needed help. This guy had a great knowledge of knifes and was freindly. Because of him I purchased a knife for me and my wife. Because of him its 3 stars and not 0. I really and truly think because we are not locals from Heber City the ower and his sales team did not help us when we first walked in. So, if your from outside Heber City dont expect great customer service from Timber Knifes.

Bountiful Memorial Art - Amazing carving of the temple!! We were thrilled with how our monument turned out!

I called three companies that the cemetery recommended and Bountiful Memorial was one of them. They quoted me a little more than the others, so we decided to go with one of the cheaper companies in Sandy. When we met with them though and they drew up the design we wanted, they told us that they were extremely busy and that we would be lucky to have it installed before Memorial Day, which was over 10 months away (this was July). I know that they are owned by Larkin and I'm sure that factored into the time since they are a big business, which didn't surprise me after walking around their huge lot with hundreds of headstones they were working on. We were shocked that it was going to take that long, but decided to go ahead and order it anyway. They said they would email us the paperwork to sign and then we could put a deposit down and they would start the process and get the stone ordered. When I didn't hear back from them after that for over a week (they messed up my email address apparently), I was frustrated and figured it must be a sign. So I stopped by Bountiful Memorial one afternoon, since I drive by there all the time anyway. As I was wondering around the small property looking at the granite stones, Robert (who I found out is the owner) came out and started talking to me. I asked him a few questions and then I told him that we had actually decided to go with another company because they were cheaper. He asked me what they quoted me and I told him and showed him the design. He pointed out several things to me and told me that not using a granite base was risky since it can crack after a few years since the ground settles, and that it's worth paying a little more upfront to save money later. I've had some friends that this has happened to, so it really made sense to me. The other place was also charging me for things that Robert said they include for no charge as well. In looking at his designs and the work they do it was hands down more beautiful and higher quality, and you could tell that they really take pride in what they do. He gave me a few suggestions and showed me a few that he was working on to give me an idea of what was possible. I felt so good about Bountiful Memorial after talking with him that I gave him a down payment right then and told him that we wanted him to make the headstone for us. I was so grateful that things didn't work out with the first company we were going to go with! Robert did say that it could take up to 7 or 8 months for it to be installed (instead of the 10 or 11 from the first company), which was fine. I stopped by a few times after that to look at the other headstones and find out when our stone would arrive and each time the owner and his sons were so nice and helpful. They've been in business as a family for over 70 years and you can really tell by the craftsmanship and quality, and they take so much pride in their work. Whenever we would walk through the cemetery over the last several months we paid attention to all of the headstones. We could always tell who had their headstones made from Bountiful Memorial. The quality is unmatched! The temple carvings especially are so much better than anyone else's and they really stand out. We were surprised to hear from them after 3 1/2 months that our stone had been delivered to them and we could come in and finalize the design before they started working on it. We met with them and went over exactly what we wanted and were so confident that they would do a great job. They also told us that they could install it before Christmas so that we could surprise our daughter who was home from college. They worked hard on it, and true to their word it was installed a few weeks later, several weeks before Christmas. We are beyond thrilled with the quality of the headstone, and are so grateful that we ultimately chose Bountiful Memorial Art!! During such a painful and difficult time as having to purchase a headstone for a child, they were beyond helpful. We now have a headstone that is so much nicer that we ever imagined, and that will last and that our family will appreciate forever.

In early May of last year, 2022, I contacted Hans Monuments and asked them if they could have a headstone prepared for us by early June. Every place I had called before that told me there was no way that that was possible since there was a backlog of orders and stones were in short supply due to the pandemic. Hans Monuments was the only place that told me yes, guaranteed. They added that there would be a rush fee, since I needed it in a month, but that they could get it done. My family had a very brief window of time where we could all be together, meeting in Wyoming, our ancestral home. I was driving all the way from Seattle and the rest of the family was driving in from Denver, telling Hand Monuments that the location was about 2 1/2 hours away from Salt Lake City, UT and that we would need it delivered in advance of the service, they replied telling me that that would be no problem. I have much gratitude to this company for making such a difficult moment so easy for us under such great stress and pressure and their work, despite having to rush the order, was of good quality, on par with anything I've seen anywhere. I definitely recommend this company. If you're looking for headstones, they are kind, understanding, professional, reliable and fast if you need them to be. It will be money well spent, and you will not regret a thing.

I was so impressed with the quality of work on my husbands headstone, which is absolutely beautiful, and they were able to place it timely for our services and out of town family to view. They even communicated with the cemetery on our behalf when we were having issues that needed to be worked out. That is awesome customer service. Secondly, I also asked them to create a special headstone for my ancestors, which, as I expected because of their quality, turned out beautiful as well and they had it placed for me out of town by Memorial weekend. I could not have asked for a better company to work with and I highly recommend them. Is 5 stars enough? I could go more. Thank you
