On January 16, 2017 our 15 month old LG front load washer (model WM3570HVA) began to vibrate loudly during the spin cycle. LG's website offered a flat rate repair option and premium protection plan, which we purchased. We were contacted on January 18, 2017 by MODERN APPLIANCE to schedule a diagnostic check for January 20th.
The diagnosis was made and the repair was scheduled for January 25th. The repair person, Ben, took the washer apart only to find that LG had sent the wrong part. Aside from the tub bearing, he also found that a weight had come loose due to a broken bolt. He returned to his office see about getting the right parts for the repair. Our washer was left taken apart with the understanding that the right part would be ordered and the repair would be rescheduled shortly.
I next heard from Andrea at Modern Appliance on February 8th. The repair was rescheduled for February 13th. I received another call from her later that day saying that the wrong part had been sent by LG again. She told me she was going to try to get a replacement for the entire machine and that hopefully we'd have a new one by the following week.
Having heard nothing from MODERN APPLIANCE, I called Andrea on February 20th. She said another part was due in on the 21st and that they'd call me. She made no mention of trying to get a replacement machine. Having heard nothing, again, I called LG directly on February 24th and was told that MODERN APPLIANCE had NOT ordered a part, but were waiting on a letter of authorization from LG to order it and that it would take 3-5 business days. We were asked to call back if we didn't hear from MODERN APPLIANCE which, of course, we didn't.
My husband called LG on March 6th and was told that the required part was on backorder, the "letter of authorization" we were told about should never have been a factor, that the inner tub was covered under a lifetime warranty, but the other components in need of replacement were out of warranty, and that we would have to speak to a separate "out of Warranty" support department.
He called that department on March 7th and was told that our premium protection contract had been cancelled on February 24th and that the part we needed was discontinued and that the repair was not "cost effective". We were never notified of this cancellation or offered any explanation as to why it took over a month to come to this conclusion by MODERN APPLIANCE or LG.
We were very patient, but all we got was the runaround from MODERN APPLIANCE and LG. What we are left with is a practically new washer that can't be repaired, that's scattered in pieces in our garage and laundry room (we will have to pay for the removal), and trips to the laundromat. It's not just inconvenient and expensive to lug our laundry to the laundromat, I'm allergic to chlorine and the town water here is heavily chlorinated. At home we have a filtration system for this reason. With no other way to do laundry, I'm stuck with a painful rash which is the icing on the cake.
MODERN APPLIANCE strung us along and left us hanging, we had to constantly call them to find out what was going on and ultimately got to the bottom of this by contacting LG. MODERN APPLIANCE never did call us back about the supposed part that was due in on the 21st. They never contacted us about our contract being cancelled. They never called to say that they couldn't repair our machine. Never heard from them again after I called on the 20th.
So, what would have made this right? Us not having to chase them for over a month. Straightforward and honest communication about what was going on with our repair. Even if they had nothing to tell us, a phone call just to let us know they were working on resolving our repair issue would have gone a long way. Letting us know our contract had been cancelled and that they could not fix our machine. If your business is service based, it's your job to satisfy customers. How much trouble would it have been to do any of these things? Apparently too much. read more
