They made themselves available for questions and comforted us through the entire process. They made a scary time much easier with the care and compassion they showed us and our animals. The team at HPAH was the most compassionate group of Vet professionals I've ever experienced. The experience was so positive, even Kitts left happy and more confident than when she entered! They even won her trust! That makes my heart happy, because as a pit mix, she's often veered away from, or feared, and that only breeds anxiety (in us both). She's a rescue, and I thought she deserved so much more than a shelter; I could tell that the team at HPAH completely agrees. Today I came in for a second opinion on a mass, and they asked all the right questions, explained everything as much as I needed it, and we ended up having it aspirated right away and confirmed it's only a lipoma! I felt comforted they will do what it takes to keep my girls in optimal health for their remaining years. I've found my new vet, and it's a good feeling. I think the times of avoidance are gone! My original review came from a place of fear, frustration, and deep worry about her future. After meeting with the team at Lantana Animal Hospital today, I feel it's important to update my review to reflect the full picture. They took the time to sit down with me, listen, explain, and truly understand what happened from my perspective. What stood out the most is that they weren't defensive, dismissive, or focused on money--they were compassionate and genuinely concerned about Maggie's well-being. They acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, and instead of distancing themselves, they leaned in. They made it clear that they care and are willing to work with me however they can to support Maggie moving forward. In a world where veterinary care can sometimes feel rushed or transactional, I appreciated seeing the human side of their team today. While this journey has been painful and far from what I hoped for Maggie, I do believe they want to do right by her and are committed to helping however possible. I'm updating my review to reflect that compassion and willingness to help.

I was paying for their insurance plan $58/month but it didn't cover nail trim or anal gland expression. Together I was charged $80!!! When it came time to get his teeth cleaned I was asked to increase the insurance to the dental plan which would increase my monthly payment by $100. So I'd be paying $158/month for pet insurance!? Without the insurance the dental was quoted at $1,600!. I called around and found a place that quoted me $400-$650. I ended up paying $680 bc I included anal gland expression into the treatment and 3 teeth needed to come out. I literally saved myself $900! I absolutely LOVE Dr Unger and know she saved my late Yorkies life (actually lengthened her life by a year or two) Another dr in this office had misdiagnosed her 2-3 times. I kept taking her in bc she never stopped panting. If he had diagnosed her correctly she might have lived a lot longer. I finally asked for a different vet and right away Dr Unger said she was concerned about my Yorkie. Ended up she had Cushings. It had gone untreated for nearly a year! So we got her settled on meds but then she ended up with diabetes which I think is a common thing with Cushings not being treated. Once the diabetes started she went downhill really fast. It was only about 6 months before I had to let her go. After that the only dr I would ever trust is Dr Unger. However I just cannot afford it anymore and I'm so upset about it :(!

My quote on location included a $80 "well visit" by a VET, never mentioned to me at making the booking. I was hours away from a flight and trapped = had to sign a bill acceptance with the added fee. Predatory practice, clear and simple. When I came to pick up pets (2) they claimed one "attacked" them before being placed in a car carrier. I went back to see this smelling, small space they had boarded my pets and understood abuse. This same pet has boarded 2X previously with never a report of aggression. Clearly diminished level of service and desperation to add fees to a bill that was already overpriced for a national holiday date added. I suggest any pet owner use TCAP services, as they are trained VETS and fair in their pricing.

Animal Medical Center has been our doctor for the last 4 years and they know my dogs history - but as other reviewers have recently shared, it's obvious this practice is now driving at profit over people and pets. I'm extremely disappointed with the service--or lack thereof--at this veterinary clinic. When my dog was clearly in distress and needed attention, I was turned away without the basic evaluation I was asking for due to a missed vaccination. I informed the vet to check my dogs medical history; he is a highly allergic Boston Terrier with multiple documented accounts of severe anaphylaxis in response to some, not all, vaccinations. This particular vaccination he needed is one that had been administered in the past and nearly killed my dog back in 2021. He survived but was hospitalized twice in five days, and barely recovered. There was no compassion, no sense of urgency, and no attempt to refer me elsewhere. As a dog Mom, I rely on my vets not only for medical expertise but for understanding, empathy and responsiveness in critical moments. Unfortunately, that was completely lacking here. I won't return to this office and I wouldn't recommend this clinic to anyone who wants their pet treated with the humane, loving care and respect they deserve.

Throughout those years, our experience with the veterinarians and technicians has been consistently positive. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and clearly dedicated to providing quality care for their patients. The reason for this review is not the quality of care, but the clinic's prescription refill policy. When attempting to refill our cat's flea and tick medication through Chewy, the prescription request was declined because our cat had not had an annual wellness exam. When I contacted the office to understand the reasoning behind the requirement, I was told that the exam was necessary to maintain the veterinarian-client-patient relationship. However, I did not receive a clear explanation of how a routine wellness exam for a healthy, three-year-old cat would impact the decision to approve a medication he has been safely taking for the past three years. Veterinary regulations may require periodic examinations before prescriptions can be authorized, and if that is the case, I would have appreciated a straightforward explanation of that requirement. Instead, the responses I received felt generic and did not address the underlying question of why the exam was necessary in this specific situation. For many families, discretionary spending is carefully evaluated. Requiring an $83 wellness exam solely to authorize a refill of an established flea and tick preventative adds a meaningful expense without a clearly communicated benefit. While I understand the importance of routine preventive care, I believe clients deserve a transparent explanation of the medical or regulatory rationale behind policies that require additional visits and costs. My overall opinion of Riverwalk remains positive because of the quality of care they have provided over the years. However, this experience with prescription refill policies and the lack of a clear & logical explanation has been disappointing and has changed my perspective on an otherwise excellent practice.
