If we could give them a 0, we would. They had the opportunity to contact us before we arrived to…read morelet us know that the 26ft truck we rented had been turned in reeking throughout of cat piss--even if it had been returned only 15 minutes before we showed up. They still should have called us. We drove 4 hours there to pick up the truck so we could haul a huge insulation load from the supplier from Monroe to Nola. We called their U Haul location, made sure they would have a 26 ft truck. And verified the day before to Donnie's U-Haul we would be there and the importance of the truck, the length of our drive there and back as Monroe was the last supplier location with this particular insulation. We get to their U-Haul, fill out our paperwork, and open the back of the truck before we take off. A cloud of putrid cat piss smell. They have another 26 ft truck parked up front, but we cannot use it as it's for their use locally they tell us. The guy who inspected the truck earlier (nowhere around) didn't notice the urine smell they tell us, even though the front desk receptionist and the owner? who came out acknowledged the smell. No offers to clean or fix the problem. It supposedly just came in, yet the engine wasn't warm but the smell sure was! They pull a few cleaning products out as a feeble offering when we ask if they have anything (after all, they should be professionally cleaning their trucks out between clients/renters), but they are NOT cleaning them. So be aware. They knew, and they rented it to us anyway and didn't tell us before we had signed all the paperwork! They didn't clean, didn't offer to clean, didn't have a back up truck, didn't bother calling us but instead surprised this on us when we were at our most desperate, needing to pick up the load that day, and return back home that day in 4-5 hours. All of our insulation load smells terrible after the hot drive back. How crappy can people be to each other? Our bad I admit for just not walking away. We tried cleaning it out with a urine-neutralizer in the parking lot where we were picking up the load, but it was at best temporary & we were praying it would work. It didn't. After 4 hours closed up on hot roads, even worse than when we first picked it up. The entire load of 50 bales has to be wiped down individually. We couldn't move the bales into the house jobsite due to the acrid, horrid smell. They didn't tell us that we needed to turn in the truck using our cell phone or it wouldn't show as returned. Thank goodness we called the 800 U-Haul to report the issue with the cat piss and get help with what we should do when returning the truck. Good thing we called the 800 number or the reeking truck issue could have been charged against us. And that's when we found out you don't just drop the truck off, but they should have instructed us to return through the U-Haul return truck feature on our phones. If we didn't do that, the truck would not show as returned, and we could have been charged for not returning the truck as well as being charged as the responsible party for the smelly truck cleaning. Kudos to the representative at UHaul who patiently helped out tired, angry drivers standing in a dark parking lot trying to get through the return process on their cell phones. Everyone was very nice. That doesn't cut it. Still so angry today can barely write this. AND who the F&* puts their cats in crates in the back of a hot moving truck?! This entire day was a scene out of a horror comedy gone wrong with crappy scriptwriters (pun not intended).
