I finally feel safe again in an office I adore full of people I like and trust. The carrot juice, lemongrass tea, mouthwash in the bathroom and blankets are all appreciated touches. Only downfall: not a wheelchair accessible space. There are 5 steps upon entry.

After years of various gut issues, anxiety, repetitive migraines, and chronic back pain - I had…read morefinally reached my breaking point. "*You* are going to a naturopath," I told my boyfriend. He met my glare with an enigmatic gaze but resigned himself to my incessant badgering. After initially reaching out to his former naturopath facility and failing to connect with anyone, I hit Google for Naturopath recommendations. Newmarket Naturopath was the first on the search results page, and after looking at a few other contenders - I decided Dr. Alexandra Lee and her practice were the winners and promptly booked her earliest available Saturday appointment. On appointment day, Dr. Lee greeted us upon entering with a warm smile and a clipboard with the intake form on it. She offered us water, tea and coffee while my boyfriend completed the form and was incredibly gracious. Once we were ready to go, I asked her whether I'd be permitted to enter the office too to receive some insight on what I can do on my end to help the success of my partner's health goals. Without missing a beat, she replied: "Absolutely!" I thought that would be the last of our interaction; this was my partner's appointment after all - but no. Throughout the entirety of the appointment, Dr. Lee made the recommendations and suggested exercises an inclusive experience, often extending the option to me to attempt the demonstrated exercises with my boyfriend. Since our initial appointment, my partner's back symptoms have been near non-existent thanks to the suggested stretches she tasked him with, and his various gut issues have been rendered more or less obsolete courtesy of the supplement treatment plan she's put him on. And perhaps even more startling - he has lost ten (welcomed) pounds. My boyfriend is no longer dependent on over the counter medicines to get him through every single day. (And I'm glad to not have to carry a whole pharmacy in my purse anymore.) To see the sheer jubilation on his face over being gut problem free, having no back pain, a substantial increase in mood and having his anxiety be reduced to a dull noise in the background provides me with an elation that I can't even begin to articulate into words. I cannot begin to thank Dr. Lee enough for returning my partner's body back to him and renewing his confidence. I'm looking forward to meeting with her for my own appointment in October. If you're looking for a naturopath who is warm, thoughtful and addresses your concerns and fears with an exceptional attention to detail - Dr. Lee and the Newmarket Naturopath practice is for you.

Dr. Debbie Smrz actually was able to ELIMINATE my foot pain completely! Here's my story: About 14 months ago, I went to the Urgent Care Clinic barely able to walk. I was diagnosed with a severe case of plantar fasciitis. It was so painful, I could barely walk. I sought treatment at a podiatrist who promptly prescribed orthotics and stretching. Nothing helped. After 6 months, the podiatrist decided to try cortisone shots in my foot. If I rate my pain prior to the injections, I would give it a 10 on a scale of 10. After the second round of injections, my pain went from a 10/10 to about an 8/10. Better...but still AWFUL. I was no longer going to the gym, and I was spending a lot of time sitting. I started gaining weight. I was told to exercise to lose the weight, but I couldn't put weight on my foot. I tried the stationary bike; the recumbent bike - but still a lot of pain. I only exercise I could do with minimal pain was swimming. And, frankly, not owning a cottage or a pool made this exercise very inconvenient. So I arrived at Naturopathic Living Medical Solutions for my initial assessment about my overall health. I wanted to feel better; sleep better and have more energy. In the assessment, Dr. Nadine Cyr asked about physical ailments. Plantar fasciitis, I responded. Have you tried BIOPUNCTURE, she asked? Bio-what? I had never heard of it. I was told it was one of the services the clinic offered. Dr. Cyr told me that her colleague, Dr. Debbie Smrz, has been successful in treating people in pain with biopuncture. As I was willing to try anything, I agreed. I made an appointment with Dr. Debbie for the following week and in less than 5 minutes she had injected my foot with some homeopathic substances. Immediately she asked if it felt better. Ummmm...maybe a bit? I wasn't sure. Two weeks later I came back for another treatment. It is feeling better, I said triumphantly. I think the pain is only at a 6 or 6.5 out of 10 now! I am so happy! Dr. Debbie thought it could get better. After treatment #2, I really noticed a difference. I went for a walk around my block without any pain. I no longer limped when I got up from the sofa. My boyfriend even commented that I no longer asked him to rub the bottom of my foot to relieve pain! I went back to Dr. Debbie for a 3rd treatment - but as she watched me walk to her office, she asked me if I needed more treatments. Then it hit me: I hadn't been in pain for a number of days. Pain was at a 0/10! YAY!! Biopuncture successfully relieved me of my foot pain and now I am able to focus back on exercising and improving my overall health. If it hadn't been for Dr. Cyr's deep and thorough assessment of my health, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to be treated by Dr. Smrz. This clinic is seriously dedicated to helping all of their patients achieve optimal health. I was not aware of BIOPUNCTURE prior to going to Naturopathic Living Medical Solutions. I wish I had known about it. I could have saved myself months of pain. I encourage anyone with pain issues to talk to Dr. Smrz and Dr. Cyr at the clinic. Ask about BIOPUNCTURE. It was the only thing that helped my foot pain. Thank God it did.

Instead, I walked into one the most unprofessional and poorly run clinics I've ever encountered. The moment I arrived, I was abruptly asked I'd brought a note from my oncologist. A note? For a massage? No, of course not. I hadn't been asked to bring one. And nothing on their website or booking confirmation mentioned this requirement. During the so called "assessment", The "Dr" appeared completely out of his depth - flustered, confused and visibly unsure of even basic anatomy. He left the room to consult with someone else and suddenly he needed an oncologist's note. At this point, it was painfully obvious this was about liability, not patient care. I've been to several acupuncturists, RMTs and practitioners throughout my treatment. Not once have I experienced this level of incompetence or lack of compassion. I drove half an hour because their website claimed they welcome cancer patients. Apparently that only applies until they actually have to treat one. The excuse I was given? The "Dr" didn't review my intake form until that morning. Yet no one had the courtesy or professionalism to notify me in advance so I could cancel and book elsewhere. Instead, they wasted my time, my energy and an opportunity to manage the side effects I experience. If this is how they handle vulnerable clients - by misleading them and scrambling to cover themselves, then stay far, far away. There are plenty of clinics that actually know what they're doing and don't treat cancer patients as a liability.
