My opinion of the taxi service in Amsterdam and Belgium has not been the best. Licensed taxis are painted white, have "taxi" lights on the roof, and have Comune di Roma decals (with the taxi's license number) on the doors. Some taxis are small, while others are midsized sedans, station wagons, or minivans. If you're traveling with bulky luggage and you phone for a taxi, be sure to explain that you need a cab with room for your bags. We never felt ripped off, and we took about 5 rides while in the city. Each and every driver was courteous and friendly. Some advice to follow would be: * Take only official Taxis with the number 3570 on them * If you call a cab, you pay from the time they get the call - so expect the meter to have several Euros on it when it arrives * Hailing a cab is not commonplace, go to taxi stands instead. (If you try to hail a cab and a taxi stand is within sight, the driver will not stop.) * Carry small change to pay for or charge your fare * DO NOT take a ride with a driver who approaches you * Make sure the meter is running, if he says it is broken, get out * Know your exact address in Italian - write it down and hand it to the driver - make sure you give specifics; don't just say "Vatican" if you want to go to the Vatican Museum * Have an idea about the fares, there are set prices from 7 am to 10 pm; but, on Sundays, nights and holidays, the fares go higher, there can be a luggage charge as well * If you are leaving from the Termini Train Station there is a surcharge plus a per bag charge * Sometimes, the route may not seem to be the most direct; but, there are a lot of one-way streets in Rome. The driver will try to take you the most direct route. * Italians do not tip taxi drivers, round up the fare if you like or give an extra 1 or 2 € if they have been especially helpful * Fares from the airports into Rome are set and clearly written on the side of the cab * Every taxi driver has a taxi license number on the back of the cab as well as inside the back door. I called back a few times and this person always hanged up on me. Just imagine how frustrated we were since this taxi number was given to us by three people and we were waiting outside while it was raining and this person kept hanging up when I was calling. I will definitely not recommend this service to any of my friends visiting Cagliari. If you hire people who do not speak English, just make sure they are polite enough not to hang up on people because it leaves a mark and impression about the whole country and its people.

From the start, Matteo was responsive, professional, and easy to communicate with by email or WhatsApp. He arrived impeccably dressed in a suit and tie, helped with all our luggage, and welcomed us into his beautiful, spotless Mercedes-Benz. He even provided water, hand wipes, and candies, sharing a sweet story about how his grandmother used to give him the same candies when he was a little boy. Matteo speaks excellent English and was a wealth of information about Rome, including some terrific restaurant recommendations we actually used! On our departure day, he arrived early,and patiently waited while we were running behind, and even helped us navigate the VAT refund process at the airport. We took the standard Uber taxi for the four of us including our two friends over our first two days to the Coliseum and Vatican City. All Uber trips were effective. Uber IT Taxi for 4 passengers is a standard Uber IT taxi vehicle. Three sat in the rear. I sat in the front on our two roundtrip trips. Uber IT taxi is small and tight for four passengers. Uber IT Taxi from Radisson BLU hotel to the Coliseum cost 25 Euros excluding gratuity. Uber IT taxi from Radisson BLU hotel to Vatican City also cost 25 Euros excluding gratuity. Our friends separately took the NCL bus from our hotel to the airport. Both of us took my UberX Black from the Radisson Blu hotel to the Rome FCO airport, which was a very nice large black van with lots of room for our very large luggage. UberX cost 118 Euros excluding gratuity. Overall I was pleased with my using my Uber app to reserve taxis and UberX within Rome. I especially enjoyed my UberX Black to the FCO airport in Rome. Our 14 day European vacation is now over. Now that we have arrived at FCO I will review Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino (FCO) Airport.
