They have it in their contract that they can open your phone and if they cause damage they are not liable.
Would you go to a garage if they were not liable to the damage they make?
What would prevent them to just sabotage your stuff? They are not liable for their wrong doing!
If your phone is broken, but still functioning, they can fix it, or brake it even further.
I dropped my phone in water once, their "water removal treatment" didn't work. But we paid.
Now on an other phone, I had trouble charging my phone. I needed to plug and unplug my phone a couple of time. But the phone itself was running smoothly.
They opened it, told me it was over 100$ repair. My phone was old and I figured I wasn't going to hold it for long anyway.
So, no repair please, I will start looking for a new phone and put the 100$ toward it.
The phone wouldn't work. It was opening then after a minute closing.
I called back and it was "sucks to be you" but with corporate language.
