If there was a 6 or 10 Stars I would skip this 5 rating and give the highest to MJS Tax Services. Ladies of a team of professionals consistently provides excellent accountant and tax support throughout the year and updated EDUCATION on new laws. They will help you through complex financial situations and support you with care and concern. I moved here OUT OF STATE 2014 and they supported me with the transition; I have never gone anywhere else. There is no need with the best of the best. After several years at our previous tax accountant, we had an issue and were desperately looking for a new one that is at minimum, competent. We were referred to Maria by a friend. She is so knowledgeable and was able to respond to any questions or concerns that we had. I'd highly recommend her. read more

I never thought I'd be excited to get my taxes done but after last year I am no longer putting it off!! Maria is so nice and very comprehensive. She really knows her stuff. She even took a look at other income information and suggested adjustments to meet my tax return goals in the future. Highly recommend!! read more

I'm afraid to mention how great she is here... because I want to keep her great services all to my self! Maria is thorough, accurate, timely and affordable. I've moved away from San Diego, but will continue to use her services indefinately. Thanks for your great services Maria! read more

For starters, if I could give Maria at MJS Tax Services 10 STARS... I Would! I came to her from a referral and I'm sure glad I did. My initial contact was with Samantha, her executive assistant who was very courteous and professional. (and is going to be co-staring in a soon to be released movie). When I met Maria in her office (she takes evening appointments, many don't) I immediately felt confident that I had made the right choice. Maria knows her stuff. She's professional without being stuffy and dry. Also, and it was very important to me, was the fact that she possesses the ability to explain tax law, rules and regulations in layman's terms where the average person can understand. My tax situation was quite complex including a couple of years of un-paid taxes, short sales, foreclosures and Roth IRA disbursement issues. In other words I was a mess! At our initial meeting she gave me a laundry list of to-get items, which took me a few weeks to compile. After a couple more emails and phone requests for additional information, she delivered to me what I can only describe as an early Christmas present. In short she literally "saved my bacon". For those not familiar with that expression she pulled my butt out of the IRS fire. Maria is now my new accountant. A relationship I intend to keep for years to come. She is the best!! read more

I had 3 years of tangled, mangled records that were complicated and I felt it was pretty hopeless. I can't express how helpful Maria was. She met with me personally and managed to put her head into that mess and straighten it out for me. I'm grateful for her expertise and her knowledge of tax law but also because she was patient and didn't make me feel like an idiot! I feel confident that she found every deduction. I would also add that she made me feel at ease. I feel as if she took an enormous weight off my shoulders. I highly recommend her and would give her 10stars if I could! read more

Maria knows her stuff. She's efficient, knowledgeable, personable, and really interested in making sure her clients understand the tax law. We have a home and a rental property, and my husband was doing some contract work in addition to his full-time job. Yea, we could have purchased Turbo Tax and slogged through it all on our own, but we would have made many mistakes. Maria knows tax law, and what is deductible and what is not. She gave us some advice last year on how to set ourselves up for a better tax situation this year, and she was right on. We are really happy to have Maria as a resource, and will continue to use her and her services for many years. read more

Maria and MJS are awesome. She takes the time to look over your tax situation and then explain to you exactly where you are with everything and what service she can provide that best helps your situation. She is smart, funny, and helps ease the anxiety that we all have when it comes to our taxes. 2014 will be my 3rd year in a row going to MJS and I plan to go in 205, and 2016, and 2017, you get the picture. Has been the best experience I've had in filing taxes over the years, Period. read more

Maria is the most compitent and plesant tax preparer I have ever had! This is my second year using Maria and my first year filing as a married couple. Our taxes are complicated due to owning a business but none of it phases Maria. She is a wealth of knowledge and even knew the tax laws for our rental property in Georgia! I give her the highest possible recommendation! read more

If I could rate lower, I would... First, be advised a tax return was never completed on our behalf. This is one SHADY company. I spent several minutes on the phone with a person who continually stated, "I'm not a tax preparer, so I couldn't tell you." Never once did she offer to help. Within one minute of being on the phone with her, she recommended I e-mail or fax over my complete 2012 and 2013 tax returns. She didn't even know which services I was interested in! After I told her I was not comfortable releasing that information without getting at least a range for what their services cost, she quoted between $120-$4000. Again, she wouldn't even let me tell her what type of return we would need filed or allow me to elude to the complexity (or lack thereof) of our situation. Again, I was told, "I'm not a tax preparer." Sooo....I asked to talk to a tax preparer to get an estimate of what my CA ONLY tax return would cost before I had the privelege of releasing all of my personal financial information to her company. Suprise!! One wasn't available. I always look to Yelpers for good advice and maybe this company does good work (I'll never know), but they need to do some serious work on their customer service skills. It is a huge red flag to be asked to send all of your personal financial information when all you are requesting is a quote. read more

I have never not done my taxes myself, but last year was a little hectic and I had to outsource my tax prep. Maria came highly recommended by my fiancee's father who had a great experience with her. She fit me in ASAP, and worked with my schedule as well as making the process quick and stress free. .... did I mention she has a killer candy bowl? read more

How often does someone get excited about taxes? Maria does! She makes getting your taxes fun (or maybe its just the fact that she has oodles of candy!). She is super fun, efficient, and honest. And VERY REASONABLY priced. Not only that- but she offers FREE TAX ADVICE on how to save money, get the most in your paycheck, and set financial goals. Two thumbs and 4-paws up!!! read more

Tax preparing has never been easier. read more

After having bad experiences with H&R and JHewitt tax preps, I decided to search for a competent tax preparer. This year I looked carefully on yelp. I have to admit, with MJS having so many great reviews, I was still little skeptical. I just had my taxes prepared this past Monday by Maria at MJS Tax in Mission Valley. She was professional, thorough and seemed to really enjoy her job. She even went the extra mile and made several phone calls on my behalf to resolve a stockholder error which has followed me since 1992. Samantha was also VERY pleasant, too. They both deserve TEN stars. I am a VERY skeptical customer but Maria has my business for life. Thanks again, fellow yelpers! P.S. She had a great candy dish (my weakness) near my chair so I had to keep looking out the window to avoid temptation. ;-D read more

Maria was so wonderful to work with! Easy to make appointments and flexible in dealing with our complicated multi-state filing + military (on active deployment). She is so good at finding all kind of information that I never would have known about, going with a professional was the BEST decision I've ever made! read more

I've been doing my taxes with Maria, MJS, going on 10 years now. Throughout this time I've always found Maria to be friendly, professional and more importantly knowledgeable with my State and Federal tax returns. Her advise with respect to tax planning is always spot on. Any money I've spent with Maria doing my taxes was money well spent. I've always thought that if you can find a professional knowledgeable in their trade, pay them what their worth because in the long run they end up saving you money. In Maria's case with all the money's she's saved me, I feel I've been taking advantage of her. read more

Mary was very attentive and helpful. Answered all my tax questions and made me feel comfortable.

Maria is truly as good as they get! I've been using her services for about 8 years now and would never do my taxes using one of those online services or software again! She saved me over $9,000 by looking at previous years' taxes that I did using a popular PC application. I only trust Maria to do my taxes now. Lesson learned!! read more

Maria is personable and efficient. I will definitely be going back next year and highly recommend it. The assistant, Samantha, is also very nice and it was a pleasure to do business with them. read more

I've gone to Maria for my taxes for several years now, and it is a relief to find someone I can trust. She is very knowledgeable on every aspect of taxes, but is not afraid to check the regulations if she is not sure. She has the thoroughness and attention to detail that you want in someone working on your finances. She provides advice kindly, so you don't feel embarrassed if you haven't managed to follow it... yet. I plan to see her next year, and the year after! read more

Love Love Love Maria! She put me at ease about my very difficult tax situation! She was easy going, so sweet and super easy to talk to. She worked really hard to resolve all of the tax issues I am having! She is very knowledgeable, and great at explaining things so that even a non-tax professional can understand. I will definitely be going back to her year after year! read more

Maria (the M in MJS) is just the BEST, plain and simple. My dear husband always did our taxes, and when he passed away last year, I was so scared at how I would be able to file my taxes. She put me at ease, told me just what she needed, and was kind and patient and supremely knowledgeable. She got me through that first partial year and now will get me through the first full year on my own, and I'm not the least bit fearful about it. I have referred my best friend to her who feels the same way about her. If she wasn't my go-to tax person, I would probably be looking at huge penalties for not filing correctly. As you can see, we all love Maria! I would give her ten stars if permitted! read more

There could be no better tax preparation service. You will know you're in good hands as soon as you walk through the door. My personal advice... be polite and respectful... say "please" and "thank you".... because this calibre of company does not need you as much as you need them. read more

I usually do my own, but had complicated taxes this year. I needed help, and what I can say is Maria is very pleasant, effective and efficient. She's also a great communicator, and helps you understand what you need to do going forward. Samantha, her assistant, is also great. Very good experience at the price I would expect, quoted up front and no surprises. read more

Maria is always a pleasure. She's been doing our taxes for three years now, and is great. She is very good at looking at our current tax situation as well as anticipating future tax implications. I always leave there feeling like I've learned something new. read more

I found MJS Tax Services on Yelp and today I had my initial consultation with Maria. I brought a copy of my latest tax return and a huge list of questions about business tax planning, calculating income and expenses, profits, business entities, tax rates, employees, independent contractors, agreements, licences, liability insurance, investments and much more. Maria took the time to provide detailed answers to every single one of my questions and calculated how much money I'm going to have to pay in taxes after all deductions this year. She also shared a few thoughts, ideas and suggestions on what I need to do to protect myself as a small business owner and what I need to prepare for my next tax return. I think I actually learned more today during this one meeting than I did from most of my online research, personal conversations and consultations with other tax professionals. I can't stress enough how grateful I am and I highly recommend MJS Tax Services to all individuals and business owners. I really hope to work with them on a long-term basis. read more

Maria was fantastic! I moved to CA this year, and this was the first time I hired someone to file my taxes. Maria not only turned this year's return into a refund, but she also found a typo on last year's taxes which led to an additional refund. She is very professional, organized and knowledgeable. read more

I went to other well known "tax" people and he was not the least bit helpful. Saw Maria rating on Yelp and made an appointment. She was more than helpful with my 2 years of "situational" taxes and her rates were more than reasonable. I even needed to make changes and she was more than happy to fit me in. Needless to say I will now be using her every year. read more

Maria was such a pleasure to work with from start to finish! My husband and I recently got married and decided it was time to use a professional tax preparer to get fully informed and assisted with our taxes. So I went to yelp and did some research and I found MJS with nothing but 5 stars all around. Turns out the reviews are right on and if it were possible I would give more than 5 stars. Maria helped to explain everything with clarity, expertise and ease. We especially appreciated her being able to prepare the tax forms on the spot during our appointment. Also as we wrapped up she put together a organized and labeled tax folder with all our documents in it to take home in a much better state than it started. We will definitely be calling Maria for next year no doubt! Thanks Maria. read more
