It pains me to post this but the proprietor of this business has shown me many times that he is not running a ethical or honest business for all patrons. When I have shopped there in person there have been no problems to report and the owner has been pleasant. Sadly, the owner is unaware of the fact that I act as "Mother" and provide housing for young adults primarily from the LGBT community. On numerous occasions when one of my "kids" has gone in to MJs they have been charged more than the items purchase price. An example is going in for a 80cent fountain drink and being charged a dollar at the register. I once sent my older son to purchase an item that normally costs around $6.50 but my son was charged $10.00 and came home empty handed. Went I went up,to the store 20mins later I purchased the desired item and only paid $6.50+tax as usual.
Recently I sent on of my live in caregivers to MJs to buy two things that should've totaled about $15 and authorized him use of my bank card. It was 11am and he returned with my two items and a receipt for $15.67 as expected. Imagine my shock when I logged on to my online banking account later that day and saw an additional withdrawal from my account for $63. When I spoke with my bank they informed me that the $63 withdrawal occurred around 2:30pm. I assured them that neither I or my bank card where within 20 miles of the mini mart at that time. A claim was filed and I was reimbursed, after having to cancel my credit card and wait 7-10 days for a replacement, but it left me with no desire to do business there again.
Unfortunately, two days ago I asked my visiting son-in-law, accompanied by my 10yr old, to take my bank card to convenience store a few blocks away and in the opposite direction of MJs. However he got my directions turned around and ended up walking into MJs. The handful of things I asked him to buy should have totaled no more than $17 and he was told the cost was $15.27 when swiping my card. He was handed the bag of items and left the store. Upon his return home there was no receipt in the bag. I didn't think much of it at the time as everything looked correct. Surprise! When I looked at my account online that evening the total of the debit made by MJs came to $38.78 which is $23+change overcharge. I now felt confident in my assumption that missing reciept was not a over site. Filed yet another claim with my banks fraud department.
My conclusion is that the owner clearly does not care for or treats fairly anyone he believes is Gay, and I will certainly acknowledge that the members of my household are openly, proudly and visibly Gay without being imposing, offensive or obnoxious about it. Discrimination is a sad element to bring into running a business and although I dont share his feelings I do understand that prejudice against Gays is his right. He does NOT have the right to arbitrarily victimize me financially due to his prejudice when someome is using my money/credit by proxy. In my case it is his distaste for Gay people but I am sure that other customers he deems unsavory have been mistreated similarly and a good hearted employee of MJs has even confessed to witnessing the boss mistreat or overcharge certain patrons which just helps validates my claims.
I only wish to expose my personal experiences with this business so the community can make a informed decision as to wether or not they wish to support and do business with MJs. No matter the decision to boycott or support I only want a fair and honest shopping experience for all consumers. Thanks for listening and God Bless
P.S. There will be a huge void not just in my stomach but also in my soul over no longer purchasing the carne asada and grilled chicken sold there as I give it high praise. I will miss you dearly my tasty grilled meaty treats. read more
