Letter of Recommendation for Kafoury & McDougal Law Firm…read more My name is Chris Garza, and I am sharing my recommendation for the attorneys and staff at Kafoury & McDougal Law Firm, particularly Jason, whose dedication, determination, and commitment to justice I have come to respect over the past four and a half years. Jason is a fighter. He is not intimidated by a police agency or any branch of law enforcement, and he will not back down when he believes someone's rights have been violated. In my experience, he is a humble man who stands firm in the pursuit of accountability and justice. One significant example of this commitment is the federal civil rights case Garza v. City of Salem, Case No. 3:22-cv-00721-HZ, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. The case arose from a September 17, 2021, encounter involving Salem police officer David Baker at an OK Tire store in Salem, Oregon. The lawsuit involved claims of excessive force, false arrest, and battery. Following a trial in November 2023, a federal jury found in my favor on the three claims presented to it and awarded a total of $3.15 million, including compensatory damages and punitive damages against the officer. On February 22, 2024, the federal court denied the defendants' request for a new trial but ordered a reduction of the $2 million punitive damages award to $650,000, subject to the plaintiff's choice of accepting the reduction or requesting a new trial on punitive damages. The court left the $500,000 false-arrest award intact. These court proceedings demonstrate the importance of having legal representation willing to challenge allegations of misconduct and pursue accountability through the judicial system. This case became a significant civil rights victory at the trial level and brought serious legal scrutiny to the conduct at issue. Over the course of four and a half years of knowing Jason, I have seen a lawyer who is committed to standing up for people and fighting for their rights. His willingness to take on difficult cases and challenge powerful institutions is a quality I believe deserves recognition. I am grateful for the work and dedication of Jason and the team at Kafoury & McDougal. Their commitment to civil rights and accountability represents the kind of legal advocacy people need when they believe they have been wronged. I proudly recommend Jason and the attorneys and staff at Kafoury & McDougal Law Firm to anyone seeking dedicated legal representation and a firm willing to stand up and fight for justice. Sincerely, Chris Garza

Mr Rosenthal heard me out, and thought there was a roadmap to my case. From the moment we decided to work together he was accessible and dove into my case with an attention to detail that I seldom have seen among attorneys (and my mother was a law librarian!). He knew every issue that was important to me, we discussed objectives and possible outcomes and we were always clear on what value certain things could bring to our case (depositions, mediation, etc) and their costs so there was never a surprise. Mr. Rosenthal was concerned for my well being and I felt like he truly represented ME, my principles, and by the end I trusted he knew every detail of my case from my standpoint and perspective, that I trusted him completely. That was really important when going against opposing counsel who lacked the depth of knowledge Ben had. When we won a six figure settlement I was happy to have chosen Ben Rosenthal as my attorney; and you know what?- the relationship was so great- we still check in with one another from time to time. Having used attorneys in the past, I can say that there are attorneys that only see the case and not 'you'. Ben Rosenthal saw 'me' and was able to see 'the whole picture' of my case through 'my eyes' I wholeheartedly recommend Ben Rosenthal, the best attorney for an employment related matter in Portland, hands down!

This review is solely based of off the experience with follow up and initial conversation with…read moreintake to pursue a consultation with an attorney at this firm. After speaking with Kyle the office coordinator so called "Office Manager" KYLE last week about scheduling a consultation with one of the attorneys on a time sensitive issue I was told I would be contacted via email later that day with some dates and times available. With no response still as of today and several attempts to call in to try and schedule with no return calls back I can see why prior reviews with the same experience are apparent. More so I continued to try to make a consultation appointment yet again this morning and spoke with the receptionist who let me know KYLE was the only one who could schedule the consultation and he was unavailable. It wasn't until informed the receptionist of my frustration and experience with no follow up from KYLE and I wanted to speak with his higher up that he was instantly available. He reassured me he had emailed me yesterday from our first initial conversation a week a go and deemed himself that should have sufficed in lieu of not returning any calls prior that week with my time sensitive issue. After I let him know of his poorly conducted attempt to contact me back he then let me know non of the attorney's were available or could take my case. His exact words were "no one is available until after the new year". I understand completely that the firm has many cases as they came highly recommended but as a smaller firm it should not take over a week to get a response from a schedule coordinator to let a possible future client that all the attorney's are unavailable until after New Years. Really?? After calling KYLE on his lack there of his demeanor completely changed and I asked to be re routed to the front desk. Instead of being professional he asked why and why did I need to talk to the receptionist. I let him know that I wasn't going to continue the conversation with him and would like to speak with the front desk. This is when he informed me that he was the Office Manager and anything that needed to be left with the front desk he could be made aware of. Interesting how if you a not even a client but a prospective and that's how you are treated then how actual clients are treated. All in all I believe this was a way letting me know to dodge this firm like a bullet.

What stood out to me most was that John genuinely cared--not only about my case, but also about my children and my family. This occurred over a year ago. Long story short I got a…read morespeeding ticket. I was caught driving 102 in a 55. Unwise of me, I'm aware. I heard good things about this firm from a friend of mine who had speeding tickets fought by them before. I heard stories of his sentences being greatly reduced and I was intrigued. Submissively, I paid them the $600 up front. I explained my case to Emily, who was my attorney. We agreed to attempt to reduce the mph caught from 102mph, to 99mph in hopes of reducing my fine (because it would be under 100mph) and expunge the risk of potential license suspension. - that was all I wanted. The court date came up, and Emily informed me that I didn't have to attend even though I was planning to. (I have never been to court before) Mid-court session, I find to have Emily texting me that the judge wasn't looking to budge on my case. She texted me asking "good things" or "responsible things" about me that she could tell the judge. I couldn't believe it.. She asked me if I left the group of friends that were with me as if that would change my behavior. SHE THEN ASKED ME IF I SOLD THE CAR. Smh The court date was postponed since I wasn't there. A few months later, we go back to court and I join her there. She was practically late. I spoke with the deputy who pulled me over, and her outside the courtroom before it began. She attempted to side hug me while talking to the deputy of "how much a good man" I am. I was honestly more annoyed of how the case went rather the result. I feel like I was just targeted as an easy client, and seen as childish and quick way to make money. If I knew this was how it was going to go, I would've made a better case myself. I'm not sure why I didn't make the report sooner. Partially because it takes too long, and too busy with my life to offer attention towards my past.
