It seems weird to write a review about a funeral home on Yelp, right? Especially this close to…read moreChristmas. But why not... So, my aunt died last week and her viewing and funeral service were at Ruck Funeral Home (known local as Ruck's), and I have to say I was very impressed with the service and quality of the venue overall. The landscaping outside is very nice. There is a lovely stand of birch trees off to one side. First of all, no one really wants to be here. Going to comfort a grieving family, or maybe you are the grieving family, that is a horrible place to be. But Ruck's made it fairly comfortable. The place was very easy to find, clean, and we were greeted as we walked in and directed to the correct room. I noticed during the viewing that some employees brought in flowers or plants that arrived and that everything they did was with such care. The next day, the funeral was also held at Ruck. My only complaint-- your pews are too close together. This was not in keeping with the comfiness of this place, but I guess they want to be able to accommodate as many people as possible-- I get that. The funeral directors were great at giving us instructions before and after heading to the cemetery. These guys are pros at lining up the cars and directing traffic so the whole procession could proceed forward to the cemetery. Even at the cemetery, someone was there to announce what was going on and when-- it was helpful. So, while I hope to not have to come back here for a good long time this was as good an experience as one might find under the circumstances. My aunt lived a long life and I am glad we had a chance to celebrate her here today. Thanks, Ruck of Towson, for providing such a caring and considerate venue for a viewing and funeral.

So This is strange I think.. writing a review for a cemetery, but they deserve their kudos. I…read moreaccompanied a friend who was in desperate need of a final resting place for her father's ashes. I was struck by the sincerity of the staff.. not the usual slickness that is accompanied by questionable sympathy. My friend was never rushed or pressurred.. and the represenative that worked with us was a truly likeable and easygoing guy. I also like that this business donates plots to fallen police and firemen. I will say the office building is quite outdated and a bit run down.. Actually doesn't smell that great.... but that is not why we come. We come for the grounds... which are beautiful and cater to a wide variety of cultures. It is very interesting to see the different ways people memorialize their loved ones, America is a melting pot and so are our funeral/burial customs. The niche here leans way from the mainstream American cemetary... although it certainly isnt too far out of the box. It is nice that they make it clear that they can find a way to honor almost any cultural tradition. They don't have headstones( just in laid markers) ... so all you see is beautiful green punctuated by a few family mausoleums. There is a lake in the middle with swans and ducks. It is placed on some gently sloping hills with some tall old trees. They have several themed gardens.. including a heroes garden, and lovely tranquility garden ( catering to the Asian population) .. as well as several others. Usually cemeteries are such depressing, creepy places.. but this looks like a well maintained park.. The main mausoleum, is quite nice and airy.. It has gone through a few style incarnations over the years.. but it actually works well... i found the building to have a very serene overall effect. I came to be of comfort to a friend, but also ended up finding a place that just might suit my own family one sad day.

As Baltimore natives, over the decades, our family members have used a variety of funeral homes…read moreafter the deaths of our loved ones. Some have been pretty good, and others have unfortunately not met our expectations. In fact. one large funeral establishment that sits on a hill, off the beltway in Lutherville, did such a poor job with my father that I asked the mortician the identity of the "man in the box". When my mom recently passed away we researched some funeral options. Several years ago I attended a funeral for a friend at Johnson-Fosbrink and I was impressed with the caring attitude and professionalism of the staff. I was not disappointed when we negotiated with Tim Fosbrink concerning my mom's arrangements. The price was very reasonable given our desires. Straight off the bat Tim advised us that we would not incur a $700.00 embalming fee if we were cremating my mom, (which was her preference). Unless I was an "insider" I wouldn't have known that. The funeral home was also able to create a wonderful DVD video package chronicling mom's life. Heather, Tim and all the staff were respectful, gracious and accommodating. The physical plant was clean and beautiful. I highly recommend Johnson-Fosbrink. They are top drawer.

After protesting and threatening to take action, there was suddenly a "change" which allowed for a significant price reduction. LIVE STREAMING WEBCAST (AUDIO QUALITY)…read more Very disappointed in the live streaming service that was held for a long time family friend of ours. The audio was horrible and we were unable to catch most of the words of the service. We had to call in constantly during the service to ask them to fix it. In the end I had to message someone attending the service to go speak to the funeral home about correcting the issue. We caught only the introductory song and the last bit of the ending message. There was a person named Paula whom always seemed irritated and was very unpleasant to speak to. HOURS OF OPERATION They are also advertised to be open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We used a well reputable florist company to deliver flowers a day before the service. The florist told us that they were unable to deliver due to the funeral home being closed. I was in shock and worry took over. Ultimately they were able to deliver it but it was THE DAY/MORNING OF THE SERVICE. It was delivered by 9am to be exact, which was 1 hour prior to the service beginning. LIVE STREAMING WEBCAST (VISUAL & TECHNICAL ISSUES) Be mindful about how this funeral home tells you that the loved ones of the deceased will be able to record videos to play during the service. They seem to want you to provide your own equipment and supplies for it to run smoothly (flash drive and laptop). Pay close attention to this here, if this is what you are planning to have so that the experience is not ruined. The pre-recordings should be put unto a flash drive (so they say). We were watching the service from another state and were robbed of the opportunity to see and hear our heartfelt letters that we wrote to our dear friend and the family. The live streaming video cut out for 30 minutes while they were being played (not sure if the videos were even really played at this point until I get the chance to ask). I called the funeral home to ask about the live streaming interruption and they said that this is normal because the family was unable to provide them with a flash drive containing the videos. Therefore, the family needed to use the funeral home's computer and internet which they say interrupts the live stream and explains why it cut out. Which really made no sense because this video was sent directly to the funeral home's email. In this day and age I was surprised to see they had an issue with live streaming and pre-recorded videos when that is commonly used these days across streaming platforms everyday. I honestly think that they could've just streamed everything from an iPhone at this point. This hurt a lot however because my mom was so close to her and our letters/videos was our last opportunity to say goodbye. But I hope that she heard it and that the family did as well. I honestly never seen anything worse than this. This was so unorganized and careless service. I imagine they were paid a lot to do this and it couldn't be done right. I can't believe I'm writing this about a funeral home. I wouldn't recommend you to bury your dog here.
