This is a beautiful old farm. I attended a wedding at Mitchell Ponds last summer, and had such a lovely time that I am planning a weekend trip there this summer. I was surprised to read the one-star review because, like I said, the wedding I attended was absolutely wonderful. While I was mostly focused on the bride and groom, and having a good time, I do remember speaking briefly with the owner. I thought her presence made the place seem more personable. I don't recall her son, but the staff was helpful and the event seemed to go seamlessly. I loved the serene setting. The pool was beautiful (that's one of my main motivators for returning this summer), and the guest house is lovely. Based on my experience, this is an excellent establishment! read more

We had our wedding in June here and the new owners were wonderful! They made sure all of our needs were met and the breakfast was delicious. It is such a beautiful place and the setting was perfect for our wedding ! We are looking forward to returning soon for a weekend for a quiet and relaxing get away. I agree with Thomas, there is good and bad. Even after I read his review about her drinking all your alcohol, I ignored it and booked the place. Most everything went off without a hitch, the place is clean - she just put in 2 bathrooms in the barn so there is no issue with bathrooms anymore like Thomas had. We also enjoyed this venue because there was was quite a bit of space available onsite for guests to stay. (sleeps 16 comfortably) Breakfast was delicious with plenty of fresh fruit and good coffee. Well... the owner drinking did turn out to be a bit of an issue. Not only did she get drunk to the point of is slurring her speech, she also started interacting with guests... some guests complained to me about "the drunk lady who owns the place". After one of my friends staying in the pool house asked about heat, she promised that she would turn it on. Well, she got so drunk that she forgot to turn the heat in the pool house on and my friends walked into the house the next morning looking like hell froze over bc of how cold they were all night with no heat! The bartender/bar overseer that the owner hired kept telling guests 'the food gets thrown out after 2 hours'... well... they told everyone except for me and my wife who paid for the place and the food. (this was noted to be a buzzkill by the guests) suddenly after the wedding when we finally get a minute to breath and eat... all of the food is gone. Like... a lot of food. $4k catering bill and probably $500-600 of food is gone. I'm like... where is the food? The bartender says it was "Thrown away" But I can not imagine someone in their right mind throwing away that much good food, and have suspicions that it made it to someone's fridge... but then again we can't prove that. Either way, she had no right to do anything with that food. If you get the place, I would lay a few ground rules that I wouldn't think you'd have to. If I were to do it all over again (and I would, the location was great) But, I would say: you and your bartender cannot drink the alcohol: at all... if you are going to be around, you are there as the owner of the business, not a guest. You may eat after all of the guests have been through the line, preferably after everyone has left dinner to go dance. Oh, and you can't keep or throw out the leftover food. Leave it alone. I attended a wedding here recently and WOW, the place is amazing. It's truly something straight from a storybook. The flowers were in full bloom and the ponds are a gorgeous setting for a wedding. There is an in-ground pool with a pool house that is another amazing setting, especially if you have a tent for the reception. The rooms are very clean and make you feel like you are home away from home. The guest house has a large jacuzzi and sauna...I want to rent the place for a weekend stay just for a relaxing weekend! The owner was very pleasant and accommodating. The dance area was setup in the barn...there are lights hanging from the ceiling that really give it a classy country atmosphere....it is truly a bride's dream come true. There's some good but a lot of bad too. Let's start with the good. The setting and scenery is absolutely gorgeous. The pond and old barn along with the trellis really make this place a great setting for a wedding. I'm sure we got some amazing pictures and people absolutely loved the setting. The food that the owner served for breakfast was great. She put out some fresh fruit and donuts or rolls as well. We were allowed to decorate the trellis and barn any way we liked so it was good that there were no restrictions on that. Now to the bad. The owner was visibly very intoxicated on Friday night to the point that she could not walk on her own and had her son help her walk to the back house where she was staying. So, because of this our 9 am breakfast turned out to be about a 9:45 am breakfast. This would not be a huge deal if you were just there to relax for the weekend but we were there for our wedding so all of our time was valuable. The owner proceeded to get intoxicated again on Saturday afternoon but this time she was drinking our beer and wine from the reception. I really am not one to get upset about such things but I feel this was really unprofessional. Getting intoxicated and drinking our alcohol. It doesn't seem to me that because you own the B&B that you are automatically invited to our ceremony and reception. It would be a bit better if she would have asked if she could be around during all of this but she did not. Also, her son was taking pictures of our ceremony and us after the ceremony. It was just a little weird. So while she was drinking our alcohol and eating our food it turns out she was bumming cigarettes from many of our guests there too. I didn't know it at the time and very glad I didn't. We were also promised 2 flushable port-o-toilets at the side of the barn as well for our reception. Those never made it. There was one small bathroom in the barn that everyone had to share. If it weren't for the great setting I feel our wedding weekend could have been really derailed by an owner that can't stay sober when she has a business to run and feels our friends and family are her own cigarette supplier. For the prices she charges to rent out the B&B rooms themselves and then another hefty price to use the place for a wedding I expected MUCH MUCH more professionalism and hospitality. We would not recommend this place for a wedding. read more
