After seeing my previous doctor for over forty years I found myself reluctantly looking for a new medical provider. This was such a difficult decision for me but one that had to be made. After deligently researching local physicians I decided to see Dr. Wainwright in Ladera Ranch. I am so thrilled that I did! Dr Wainwright and his staff couldn't have been kinder, from the moment I entered the office I felt at ease and very comfortable. His back office staff was very attentive to my concerns and helpful with the paperwork. Dr. Wainwright took his time to review all my records and listen to my issues. He was so kind, caring, and complete in his evaluation. I never felt rushed or unheard. He saw me, understood me, and most of all respected me. Great doctor and I really liked him but the Ladera Ranch OptumCare office staff is probably the worst I've ever met. The ladies at the front desk are rude and mean. They hang up on you if they think they've answered your questions -- even when you still need help. They raise their voice and you feel Iike it is your fault that they have to take time away from whatever they are doing to "deal" with you. Doctor--if you are reading this I hope you take some action but I'm going to switch offices to where the staff is less terrible, mean, and rude. read more

Over 15 years ago, Dr. Wainwright committed to preserving the health of my family. Put simply, he has done exactly that but with the highest level of responsiveness, empathy and professionalism...something we've not encountered elsewhere. When our medical needs have been outside Dr. Wainwright's area expertise. his referrals have always led us the highest caliber of specialists practicing locally. In the limited space allowed, I simply cannot attribute sufficient accolades to Dr. Wainwright and his team. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ok, so just now taken a few minutes to read a few reviews of Dr. Wainwright. I don't disagree about his being 'rushed'... I've experienced this with him as well but keep in mind physicians these days are under tremendous pressure to be incredibility (impossibly?) efficient and comply with an ever-increasing demand of requirement and paperwork. Forces them to apply their expertise w/in a prescribed 'box' - must frustrate the heck out of the good ones with talent and an 'outside-the-box' passion for healing, like Dr. Wainwright. Plus they have to see an inordinate amount of patients - all with something different going on. Maybe, right before he saw you, he had to give a patient some really bad news. As for the "judgmental" aspect, yep, have gotten that as well. Not every visit though. Bugs me too but keep in mind, Dr. Wainwright has very limited time to identify, assess the severity of your condition and prescribe treatment. During all this time, if he comes as short or whatever, my sense if he is trying to tell you what you need to hear and give you the biggest bang for the buck in the allotted time, regardless of how you might want to hear it. If you're looking for a camp-happy face koom-by-yah pillow talk experience every visit, maybe a different Dr. would be a better fit. As for the snotty receptionist, had that too-and let Dr. Wainwright know immediately. He was on it in heartbeat. Asked me to write it out so he could share with staff. Make sure you let him - or any Dr. - know if this happens to you. People are people, people are strange, processes are annoying and nobodys perfect...but nobody should be making anybody feeling unformattable or inadequate, particularly in a Dr's office. Your front office needs a cleaning! The staff is the rudest I have ever dealt with. I am shocked as a patient and customer of a business to be spoken to the way I was. They justified their conversation with me by explaining procedures and how it was my fault, and it was my fault the way I went about requesting something. I don't want to give too many specifics because I fear retaliation as my request is pending! read more

Saw Dr. Wainwright about four months ago and while he was friendly when I saw him, he did seemed rushed. I had some blood work done and xrays, both of which I received a letter in return with the results. Maybe I am being overly picky, but I am used to a doctor calling with the results one of which was not great (blood work). Anyways, the letter informed me that I needed to follow up in three months but before I could follow up I received a bill with "Past Due" written on it. This was the first bill I had received from this office and gladly paid it, as I do all my bills. I included a handwritten note myself stating the past due bill was the first I had seen of this amount due and that this was the last they would be hearing from me. Sad read more

My first impression of Doctor Wainwright was that of a man who genuinely cares for his patients and his community. For someone who holds such a title that requires extensive years of education he proved himself ignorant. I found out he is prejudice towards specific breeds. His racial profiling impairs his ability to find better ways other than medicine to provide comfort and therapy to his patients who would otherwise benefit from a therapy or service animal. An animal who has been put through expensive and long hours of training. His comment that he "hopes this animal never gets mad" around my daughter left me in disgust and disbelief that an educated man would misdiagnose the temper of a well behaved animal he has never met or been associated with. read more

She is extremely rude and unhelpful. I've had her answer more than once. The last was a mix up with the pharmacy and my refill. She was so nasty to me and made me feel bad. Horrible first impression and I am really disappointed. The medical assistant spent more time in the room with me than Dr. Wainwright did. 90 seconds was all I got. Is that reasonable? He seemed very rushed and uninterested in me or my issue. The office staff here has always been nasty and rude however the young lady that was there tonight, 11/18/19 was pleasant. Don't bother bringing cash because they will look at you like you are trying to pay with feathers. I recall that Dr. Wainwright's physician's assistant Shawn Plowman was incredible. I would come back to this practice if I could ONLY see him. They should actually switch roles, I am certain that they would have happier patients. To top it off, Dr. Wainwright sent my prescription with the wrong quantity (short) so now I have to go back another day to pick up more meds. Can't wait to start looking for a new Physician that actually cares or is at least good at pretending to care.....? read more

I visited Dr. Wainwright for an annual checkup a few months ago. While he was pleasant, he didn't really explain much. He made short, rushed comments, some of which sounded somewhat judgmental, but in general he seemed friendly. He said he wasn't sure about a part of the test his office performed, so he asked me to come back the following week to redo the test. After the test was redone, he said there was no problem and it was likely a mistake in the first test. Then a few weeks later, I received a letter from my insurance company, followed by a bill from Dr. Wainwright's office, claiming I had requested the second visit, therefore I was responsible to pay for it all out-of-pocket. That was not the case, so I called his office to resolve the matter. The office was unresponsive and kept instructing me to call different people. I was finally able to speak with the doctor himself. And, boy, what a treat that was. His friendly facade was gone, and instead I got a rude, condescending, unprofessional individual that outright dismissed my concerns. He said, "that's how it is and I don't have to explain anything to my patients. Have a good day." He then hung up on me. read more

The place wasn't bad. The doctor was nice enough. But I didn't really feel like anyone special to them. They didn't really seem to care too much. Maybe I'm expecting too much but I just don't feel like they really care about me or my issue. They always seem kind of like they're rushing you through and like I said I didn't feel any real concern for me. He kept tellling me about what a great guy he was, his no-nonsense approach to dealing with things, and his sense of humor! He sees our son and daughter, and he treated my elderly Mother for dermatology and eldercare. I have recommended him to many friends and co-workers. I appreciate the way Dr. Wainwright listens and partners with me in my health care. He truly cares and deals with our medical needs practically and with compassion. Dr. Wainwright was my primary care physician, I recently switched physicians due to his lack of care and compassion towards my personal healthcare. He lacked to physically check me before prescribing me medication, sadly when I asked to be checked for verification of my condition he said I would be fine and did not need to be tested. After stating I was experiencing shortness of breath, my lung sounds were never checked, as he forgot to come back once he left the room. He also prescribed me medication in an unhealthy dose for several months, which resulted in several additional health issues due to my ignorance in trusting my physician. Dr. Wainwright may be a wonderful physician to many of his patients as I have heard, but sadly I did not receive the same healthcare. read more

Pleasant but not personable. He is pleasant enough during my visits which were usually for the new, free minimal annual physicals. Don't know what he was like before the "mandatory minimum". I can say I never really felt like he saw me as a person, though, but more saw me as a case. Dr. Wainwright is amazing. Easiest and fastest "well woman" exam I've ever received. I tend to procrastinate, and I like a Dr. who mildly scolds you for not following through with lab tests and yearly exams; that's Dr. Wainwright! He genuinely cares about you as a patient, and wants only the best health for you. I always feel completely comfortable, and I completely trust him with my health and medical care. No waiting when you arrive; I've always been called right back. Exams are fast and thorough. He is aware of your schedule, and gets you out the door in a timely manner. Dr. Wainwright has a wonderful office staff, and you can clearly see the great relationship he has with his girls. I work for two physicians and I wish they were as warm and friendly as he is with his staff. This says a lot about a doctor's character. The staff is also exceptionally friendly and efficient. The office is spotless and organized. The exam rooms are spotless. The entire office seems to run like clockwork. Dr. Wainwright is the kind of doctor you see in those TV ads for prescription drugs--the one you roll your eyes at and think, "Yea right. No doctor is that efficient and interactive!" He shakes your hand when he greets you, and at the end of your visit, sits you down at his computer and explains in detail your plan of treatment, and makes sure you are clear on everything before you leave his office. I have followed him from FV to 2 MV offices all the way down to SJC and then back to his beautiful mission viejo office he practices out of now. why am I telling you this? because you NEED to know that I would follow him anywhere... he is THAT good. he is personable, kind, will not hesitate to reprimand me when I need it, knowledgeable and last but certainly not least, oh so funny!!! Dr Wainwright is without a doubt the most thorough doc that I have had in many years. It was refreshing to not feel like I was getting rushed through a medical office like I was on a conveyor belt (which is what I have come to expect). He takes his time, asks follow up questions from previous visits and I always walk about feeling like I have a solution. The only reason that I gave him 4 instead of 5 stars is that when I have asked for a referral to a specialist on a couple of occasions, he has wanted to try to resolve the issue without the specialists. Normally that is fine, but there are some things that I would rather just get sent to a specialist for. So, for instance, instead of getting referred to a specialist for single a tendon injection, I got one from him and when it didn't work then I went and got another from the specialist. But overall, he is exceptional and I would rather change my insurance than change from him being my doc. Expectations: he is on the only doc in his practice, so the waiting room is always nearly empty. When I call, I am generally able to make an appointment within a business day unless the appointment requires a procedure of some sort (like a minor in office surgical thing like an ingrown nail.) For "procedures" you might have to wait an extra day because they take more time. For most things, if I call in the morning they have made an appointment for the same afternoon. Insurance: He is a preferred provider on just about every PPO that I have looked at. He only contracts with Monarch Medical Group for HMO, though, so unless you are on a corporate HMO plan, you are probably out of luck. Weight Loss: he offers some treatments that aren't covered by some insurance plans, but they work. So if that is an issue, it's worth asking. read more

I came to Dr. Wainwright after being frustrated with my other doctor of many years. Basically I needed to apply for state disability (SDI) due to an accident. My old dr. could not get it done for 3 months, Dr. Wainwright had it done in one week. When you are hurt at home and not on the job, then SDI is the only avenue to keep a paycheck coming in. He literally saved my family financially. I have also seen him for various minor problems and have been very happy with the results. I would recommend him hands down. read more
