I left him a message and he called me back the same day, even after business hours. We discussed my situation and he asked all the right questions to keep the conversation informative and efficient. He was very honest that I was almost finished and that I could very easily have finished everything myself. I appreciated his honesty (and he wasn't pushy about it) and felt even more sure of hiring him. He was able to schedule to meet me first thing the next day. In his office, we went over everything again once more for clarity. He reiterated that the process was already almost complete and I could have easily completed it on my own without him (just to make sure he was being very transparent), but to me it was worth hiring him just to make it not my problem anymore. We filled out a few pieces of paper and then I was on my way. Sam was able to get me into the courthouse the following Monday (rushing there on his own electric scooter). I went from hiring him on Wednesday evening to having a finalized divorce Monday morning. There was a date error on this certificate which VASTLY changed my liabilities - from nearly 0 to my house, business, etc. He provided no legal advice and advised me to go along with whatever the opposing counsel suggested, even though it was not in my best interest . He would not answer a single question I asked him and would charge me $100+ for each one sentence email he would send to me that did not provide any guidance. He was extremely discouraging and did not suggest mediation. He merely suggested I give up and pay out 50%+ even though my situation was very unique and not clear-cut (a signed, informal marriage agreement with a date discrepancy). If I continued with Joe I would have given up an extra ~$500k in my divorce. In the end I paid $4500 for him to draft a boilerplate divorce petition and forward emails from the opposing attorney with no legal advice.

On the day of the hearing, just before the judge entered, my ex paid the full amount owed online through the OAG system. By that point, I had already incurred approximately $3,000 in legal fees to enforce a clear court-ordered obligation. Given that my ex paid child support minutes before the judge walked into the court room, she asked what the purpose of the hearing was and my ex- husband's attorney said it was to discuss the legal fees associated with with the child support enforcement. If my ex would've paid child support, we wouldn't have needed this hearing and thus a discussion over legal fees wouldn't have been needed. It is disappointing that the matter was not resolved earlier by his attorney at this law firm as the hearing ultimately served NO purpose. From my perspective, the only party who appeared to benefit from this process was the law firm.

What ended up happening is that she charged me for both their time in every meeting because this was a trainee. She also did such a bad job on my divorce decree that my name and address were wrong. And the nail on the coffin...the account number was wrong for my ex's 401k account. Leading to thousands paying a new lawyer to discover and correct the issue with Fidelity. She also told me she defended women then dismissed the proof I had of abuse saying it wasn't enough. A week after I fired her, this happened to my daughter at the hands of my ex. She didn't even bring up abuse in mediation. I paid at least $30k for a huge setback in my life because the mediation did not end in my favor. Most of what I was owed was in stocks which didn't count since my ex quit his job. She put no effort in and misrepresented her ability tremendously.
