The arrest was far from clear cut, but I wanted to ensure I had a truly professional and reliable team to help me with my case, and I certainly chose the right one. A traffic arrest - but the first time I had encountered the TX court system - and I was guided thought with finesse and confidence. Although not the cheapest of lawyers, they work with you on payment plans if this is an issue, and I can attest that the money spent will save you a lifetime of worry. I can state categorically that the level of service is superb. During my initial consultation I was afforded time with two of the partnership (one of whom was the ex-assistant D.A. of Travis County and therefore knows his stuff extremely well). The options laid in front of me sounded great, and I was personally assigned to Mr. Chris Holub, who turned out to be a fine, friendly, and knowledgeable gentleman who followed through with a solid defense, resulting in a Deferred Adjudication for my case. He refuses to return calls, voicemail, certified letters, emails, etc. The address listed here on Google and his website are just a coworking space that doesn't even claim to know who he is - it is certainly not his office. I have an active case with the State Bar Of Texas to investigate this issue and he is also ignoring all communication attempts from the State Bar. Prior to this I had opened a case with the Client Attorney Assistance Program and he ignored them, too. He owes me several thousand dollars and is in breach of contract for failure to return an unearned retainer. Not only is failure to return an unearned retainer unethical, but given the amount of time that has passed this has potential criminal and civil consequences for Mr. Coonley. Although he is (technically) a lawyer it's not clear he understands that failure to reply to a grievance issued by the Chief Disciplinary Council of the State Bar Of Texas has the potential to get him disbarred at worst and at best produces a public reprimand which will be on his record forever. I would never recommend anyone work with this attorney. It took multiple weeks of calling and texting incessantly to get the refund actually processed, and he was less than pleasant to deal with and whined about what a pain in the ass the refund process was for him. We had a consultation, I sent every piece of paperwork they asked for, and we did a follow up call to close out questions. Michael repeatedly said my case was simple, fewer than five creditors, nothing complicated. Then it all stopped... Two months went by and the only work product I ever saw was a single paragraph drafting a settlement with my biggest creditor. It had typos and unfilled placeholders in it. I wrote back inside an hour. That was the last I heard from either Michael or Renee. They quit answering me, and they quit answering the creditors who were trying to reach them. Eventually I had no choice but to move to a different attorney and request a refund of the $6,000 I had already paid. We will see if it shows up. I would not hold my breath. My take is that Michael seems to be heading toward retirement and is not focused on new clients. Read through the other reviews and you will see the same story over and over, followed by apologies and requests to change the rating. Save your money and your time.
