Value Village - $28.99 for a stained "Champion" brand windbreaker. Yikes.

Shockingly high prices for some of the items I saw today! And this is coming from a pretty…read moreexperienced and realistic thrifter. I understand Value Village is a for-profit company; however, you're still getting a deal compared to retail. But the prices here in general seemed MUCH higher than the usual VV's I frequent in Toronto and Mississauga. They were asking $30 for a Roots hoodie (and another $30 for another Roots crew sweater which I didn't take a picture of). Granted, they go for about $80 new, but this is the highest price I've ever seen a used hoodie go for at a second hand shop. Roots hoodies are a dime a dozen at most thrift stores... And these weren't in excellent condition either. Another $14.49 for a used fleece maple leafs blanket (toddler sized). And $28.99 for a cheesy "Champion" brand wind breaker with a paint stain that's probably the same price new at Costco. What in the what!?! Other examples: "Tentree" hoodies here for $15-20. At my local VV they're priced at like, $5-8. No-name Gildan sweatshirts for $10-15. No-name t-shirts we're upwards of $15. An oil stained "aerie" sweatshirt was $11.99. And when I went to check-out, somehow the price sticker had fallen off a glass knick-knack item I had on my cart. Told cashier that the sticker had accidentally fallen off and disappeared, but I swear it was for $3.49. Wouldn't have put it in my cart otherwise. When she returned and handed back the same item, the sticker read $4.99. Really? *eyeroll* (I understand "popping tags" --- but I had a bunch of items to purchase totalling almost $60. Couldn't have just given it to me for the price I told you it was? Sheesh....) Some positive things about this location: *decent linen selection and prices (got a large tablecloth with no stains for $3.99, and another groovy tie-dye round tablecloth for the same price) *majority of knick-knacks here were reasonably priced... and a quality selection. *friendly staff. A random employee topped his hat while hauling out merchandise and asked how I was doing. Self-checkout woman was also friendly.

I was at the self serve in the Owen Sound store recently and was about to scan an item that had a…read moreprice tag of $4.99. The associate came and said "I need to check this price". She called the manager and he took it in the back. When he came back to the check out, he laid it on the counter with a new price of $7.99 and said "there was a misunderstanding with pricing". I told him I don't want it! First of all they are implying that I switched the price tag which is absolutely outrageous and insulting to me! Why would employees in a store risk losing a loyal regular customer over $3? No wonder that brick and mortar is never busy when I go there. Upper management needs to hear about this for sure!

I went to the Grape Vine Cottage today. I was greeted in the store by a salesperson. She did not…read moreintroduced herself, she was tall with dark medium length hair. I was looking at the store goods and as I went through the store I turned around to ask how much an item was and i received the most bizarre response from this salesperson. She pointed at the door screaming at me to get out! Please be aware if and when you go to this place. You can be verbally abused and humiliated for no apparent reason. This is an awful place. And I wish I will never experience anything like this in my life.

My experience in this shop was not a positive one. I walked…read morein to hear the owner/s griping about customers, and i was ignored. My Covid related safety question was answered with a snippy reply, and I was then informed about how they could spot a person from the city right away because they are so rude, not like the locals. Well, I have to say, the owner is the only rude person here, and if she doesn't care for customers from 'the city' she is in the wrong business. I'd advise she keep her generalizations to herself. I remained pleasant my entire time in the shop, but walked away feeling very insulted, demeaned and judged for no apparent reason.
