Wife and I were in town for the CrossFit Games in Madison. We wanted a gym that, if we could…read moreactually find it, would be a "hybrid" between CrossFit and a regular gym. Holy crap we found it - literally - with Hybrid Athletic Club! Want to do CrossFit stuff with turf, sleds to push/pull, ropes (both hanging and battle), dead balls, wallballs, a rig, GHDs, rowers, you name it? Got it. Want to do standard bodybuilding with dumbbells, barbells, basic selectorized machines or regular cardio on ellipticals or treadmills or step mills or an air bike or ....? Got it! The two women who own it are super nice and it's obvious they are REALLY trying to do well by their members. In the mind blown category, as if what I already said isn't enough, one of the owners, who is OBVIOUSLY a MUCH better person than me, remembered my name from the previous day. Huh? Yep. She came over to me as I was foam rolling and said "Hi David" - think about that, I'm in town for three days, I'll never have a full on membership there due to where I live, and she remembered my name. Hell, I go to the LA Fitness 3x/week and I can't even get the counter person to say high when they are HOLDING the fob scanner 18 inches away from me! It gets even better. They are a 24/7 facility with fob access. So we got a fob, paid the very reasonable fee for our three days of use and we were all set - we could come and go as we pleased, any day or time we wanted. That's almost weird it's so good - since it wasn't a globo Anytime Fitness and the like. The 2nd day I saw something I've NEVER seen in my 33 years as a gym rat and probably NEVER will again. There was a CrossFit class going on AND there was figure/bodybuilding/physique posing clinic going on in other areas of the gym. Think about THAT - CrossFit and physique co-existing in the same building? Yep - and since I love both it was pretty freakin cool to see. We will definitely be back to this facility when we return next year - this is OUR gym while we're in town now. We just wish there was such a place in Springfield. If I had more than two thumbs I'd give it more than two thumbs up - same goes for the five stars.

I initially wrote a review Fall 2011 and it was recently removed because I didn't come back to…read moredirectly update with "my first hand experience." Fair enough and my apologies for overlooking that by including my update in the Fit Fresh review. Hybrid shows real results via several ads that run in the WSJ. I was willing to pay the cost to join for those results in the time frame I had to complete. The bonus: I had a friend complete the program and although he's male (and men lose weight faster) I saw the same results in him and took his feedback to heart. So I was really excited to start the meal plan first and complete my bootcamp contract out then go over to Hybrid. My personal experience: The place appears to be clean and well kept. Hybrid Fitness apparently excutes the BCOR bootcamp committment in this area until someone else is able to handle the downtown/east/suburbian areas. I signed up with Bcor anticipating the start of my experience at the end of July 2012. Because of my previous experience and most recent email contact I decided this may not be smart to attend. I got unnerved after receiving a Yelp email that the Fit Fresh review received a response, but it was removed (no real issue there) + I received a harrasing message referring to my review via my inbox. So combine that inbox message with the removed message - call me smart to be nervous and suscipicous. Now, I'm over my fears of the Yelp stalker or at least the fears don't outweigh my hope in meeting my new deadline before having to report back to the unit. To that end, I'll report back in 90days how the workouts go.

Just started this week and I love it so far. (I waited until after today's workout session to write…read morethis review instead of before just to make sure!!!) The 30 minute sessions go by so fast because there is such great variety, which is what I need because I get bored with the same old routine day after day. The app they use to sign up for sessions is great. I like being able to sign up ahead of time so easily. You can have the app add it to your calendar right away too. There's another app to be able to weigh in and create goals. Facebook groups for encouragement and to cry on each other's shoulders if you need it. So many great and convenient tools. The instructors and several of the other boot campers are so friendly and encouraging. The instructors do a great job of offering modifications to the day's exercises to suit your ability, which mine is certainly lacking. . .for now. I can't believe I was actually looking forward to hitting today's session and am still looking forward to my next one. Can't wait to see my progress six weeks in. I'll update this review then.

They give a great pitch, and I'm sure their programs work for the people in them. What I can't get…read morebehind, however, is the way they get people in the door. They offer you a six-week free program and get you excited to change your life by helping you drop 20 pounds or 5% body fat, and then ask you for a $400 deposit they'll return once you finish the program. So it's free, yes, but they want you to 'have some skin in the game.' They really just found a way to make their previous 18% six-week completion rates your problem. Of course you have 87% completion rates when you've passed the accountability buck off to the customer, so they have to choose between throwing away $400 or losing weight.
