My husband and I recently purchased a house with the help of Mischa Lorraine. Mischa is quite simply one of the most amazing professionals we have ever had the pleasure of working with. I thought I'd share a recent viewing experience I had at an open house for a home on this block. Needless to say, it brought out all the looky loo neighbors, which was kind of fun because we don't normally see one another. Mischa is an absolute professional. Not only was Mischa's assistance invaluable during the process of buying my first home, but she happily assisted me for months after the sale as I went through the equally stressful process of undertaking major renovations of the property. I was living on the east coast when I purchased my home. I had an unexpected opportunity to come out to Berkeley on short notice and decided to take advantage by beginning the process of viewing homes. A friend referred me to Mischa and within a few days she had arranged showings across the Bay Area. She provided helpful and insightful assistance on short notice. Although I returned to the east coast after the viewings, I felt completely comfortable with the process of submitting offers because of Mischa's close coordination. We quickly secured a purchase at a good price. I originally wouldn't have submitted an offer on the property I eventually purchased, but Mischa helped me envision how the condo could be improved through renovations and provided what turned out to be a very accurate estimate of what such a process would cost. Being on the east coast, it would have been difficult for me to initiate the process of screening and hiring contractors. Mischa arranged a number of offers, meeting with and explaining to the contractors what I was looking for, and scheduled meetings between me and the contractors to coincide with my brief trip to Berkeley to close the sale. AHHHH so let me preface this by saying home-buying in the Bay Area is awful. If you are buying a home in the Bay Area, you both (1) have more money than anyone should; yet (2) will somehow feel like you don't have anywhere near enough. And you will have to make decisions about home, family, and community that are shaped by and, in turn, contribute to problematic socio-political conditions, all in the context of a random and unforgiving real estate market where you somehow feel like both oppressor and oppressed. That all said, the BEST PART BY FAR of our home-buying experience was Mischa. She is an incredible real estate agent and an incredible human being. On the agent front, Mischa is unendingly patient, supportive, and strategic. I kid you not, we took three years to buy a house -- we gave up in the middle, moved back to Texas, then came back 10 months later when we missed the Bay more than we ever thought we would. She stayed in touch the whole time, when there was no ostensible benefit to her from doing so -- she is just NICE. She helped us as we bumbled around, saying we had to live in Berkeley or Albany, ok let's try Oakland, oh wait what about San Mateo, and then all of a sudden and totally out of nowhere maybe the Excelsior in SF, and finally (where I think we should have been looking the whole time) El Cerrito.
