Due to an incredibly traumatic experience at a dentist office decades ago, I have developed an severe aversion to dentists. I have been diligent in dental cleanings and in the daily care of my teeth to avoid the immense anxiety in the event I'd ever need a longer procedure such as a root canal. After my tooth cracked in half, my dentist referred me to another endodontist who can first see me in a month and a half. They then referred me to Dr. Mirman who they only knew because one of their previous employees now works there. I was able to schedule an appointment within just days of the incident. After calling multiple times with any and every question that I could think of so I can completely wrap my head around the procedure, their receptionists were always very friendly, educated, and reassuring. On the day of the appointment the staff went above and beyond to make me feel at ease and comfortable. When Dr. Mirman walked in the room he immediately put me at ease, understanding my needs, and communicated every step of the process and timing. Both he and his assistant worked in lockstep both in ensuring my comfort and in their execution. They care about the patient and their needs and are the epitome of professionalism. When I left the office I was in disbelief that I had spent years worrying about my ability to tolerate such a procedure. I waited to post as I wanted to see my dentist's opinion, given that he's a perfectionist. One month later upon prepping a crown, my dentist heard about my experience, looked at the quality of his work in detail, and promptly said that he's going to be referring Dr. Mirman a lot more of his patients. From the time I made the appointment the lady was so pleasant and gave me an appointment I needed. I was called earlier than my appointment time and I was available to go in early. Upon arrival I was pleasantly greeted and seated within 5 minutes. The dental assistant was amazing and Dr Mirman was perfect to say the least. Let me state at the outset that I am extremely appreciative to Dr. Mirman for accepting my Aetna 1199 SEIU Medicare DMO insurance. I presented with a difficult root canal case complete with an infection on June 2, 2020 following the Covid 19 shut down. Fortunately I found Dr. Mirman due to my own research following a visit and X-Ray by a general dentist indicating a possible root canal or extraction. Dr. Mirman immediately informed me the tooth (molar) could be saved. Notwithstanding the fact that root canals are not a day at the beach, Dr. Mirman did a great job and I have not experienced any pain in that tooth since the procedure. He is the epitome of professionalism and competency. I was prescribed antibiotics and had zero complications. I went to Doctor Mirman after a referral from my regular dentist for a fractured tooth. I had tried to make appointments with several other endontists on my own, but none had any availability for weeks, and when you've got a bad toothache, that's a lifetime. After being referred, even though their office had a full plate of appointments for the day, they took me in. Dr. Mirman's staff are wonderful, they worked with me in trying to navigate my insurance. Dr. Mirman himself is not just experienced and professional, he has a great bedside manner and even though he is very good at his craft, he still focuses on his patient and at keeping you at ease. Receptionist at this office are very disrespectful as they love to close the mirrored windows in your face. The tv volume is so high to muffle the sounds of thier laughs behind the windows as you stand there and wait until they decide to acknowledge you and open the windows take your paperwork then shut it in your face again before you can ask a question. Waiting area was tiny and dirty and only 4 seats. As a new patient and healthcare professional I walked out and never even seen the doctor. I would never go back and never recommend them. Already have a new appointment elsewhere! Horrible manners and work ethic by grown woman receptionist. Time to replace them for someone who cares and loves what they do. Today marks my second visit to Dr Mirman's office and like the last time in 2014, he is one of the BEST endodontists I have had the pleasure of using. He has a FANTASTIC chair/bedside manner, making sure you are comfortable and not in pain while he works on you. Office is dirty and old. He cannot and does not give any pain medication besides Motrin. So if you have a low pain tolerance for your teeth, he is not the endodontist to go to. read more

Dr. Mirman is wonderful!! I had a root canal done and he and his staff were amazing. Several times during the procedure he patted my hand to let me know everything was going to be ok....he is compassionate, patient, friendly and a great dentist!! I highly recommend his practice. I loved that they give you head phones to drown out the drilling noise. If you want, for an extra charge, because insurance does not cover it, you can request sweet air, which I did, and was well worth it!! The staff is very accommodating and willing to help. Dr. Mirman is the best. I have had numerous root canals performed by him and they went smooth and were uneventful. Staff was friendly and professional when I arrived. I was taken almost immediately, even before the scheduled time. Dr. Mirman greeted me and put me at ease before he began the root canal. This was not my first root canal. I am used to feeling some pain but I felt none. I was honestly surprised when it was over. Dr. Mirman repeatedly checked to make sure I was OK. Do not get a root canal here. I got my first root canal in October by Dr. Mirman and it was a great experience. However the tooth did not stop hurting. I went back to see him in January and he shaved my tooth a little and told me that it would be fine if I just waited a little longer. It continued to hurt and it became clear that I needed it to be retreated. I went to see Dr. Mirman's again and his office told me that he is "not doing retreatments because of COVID." This was ridiculous because by that time dentists had access to the vaccines and I had the first dose myself. He refused to do a retreatment because insurance doesn't cover them because it's his own fault for not doing the root canal correctly the first time. I just had to pay $1400 out of pocket to get a second root canal done on that same tooth by a different endodontist. And yesterday I receive a bill from Dr. Mirman for the time I went to see him for the lingering pain... for a follow up visit. Do not go here. Mirman does not stand by his work. read more

The worst part of going to Dr. Mirman for a root canal is the anticipation you have the couple of days before... believe me when I tell you, if you need a root canal.. this is the only doctor you need to see!! the office staff is friendly, caring and courteous.. and there is just not enough I can say about Dr. Mirman - he puts you at ease right away and makes sure you are comfortable during the entire procedure. Dr Mirman and his staff were very kind, gentle and understanding of my situation being scared to death and having a failed root canal with my Dentist. The receptionist offered to check with my insurance to see if I had coverage rather than pay the discounted rate that I had agreed upon. My dentist unfortunately referred me to Dr. Mirman. I had a lot of pain during and after my root canal. He did a rush and really crappy job. He left some of the root and did not drill the post deep enough. He and his rude receptionist gave me a hard time when I requested an antibiotic, although eventually gave me one. All of the root canals I have had with Dr. Mirman have been painless even after the Novocaine wore off. Once I had to wait, but he was seeing me in an emergency situation for a same day appointment. About a year ago, my dentist (who is no longer my dentist) referred me to an endodontist to have a root canal treatment performed. When I asked him why he couldn't do it, he replied, "An Endodontist is a specialist in root canal treatment, and a dentist specializes in cavities, fillings and routine cleanings. Okay, I said, and left the office a bit more knowledgeable than when I entered. Not knowing when I would muster up the courage to make the appointment, I placed the card somewhere in the kitchen and forgot about it. Anyway, as fate would have it, I lost the business card, and had to look up endodontists on the World Wide Web, in order of convenience. I then chose a practitioner in the New Dorp area, mainly because afterwards, I could do some shopping. It really didn't matter where on the Island I had the procedure done, I was just picking a name out of a "virtual hat," and hoping for the best. Anyway, I arrived a half hour early as usual, to fill out the paperwork and the questionnaire form, and right around the time I was to check in, I was being admitted. The endodontist was an elderly man, with a firm handshake and an honest smile. . . I liked him right away! Maybe it was the knowledge he possessed, or the genuine sincerity in how he composed his words. There was just something undefinable about the man that brought a sense of calm into the room, to quell my anguish. Dr. Mirman told me he would be perform the root canal in one session, which was wonderful news to hear! All my life I always thought it had to be done in three sessions, but that was the old days! He told me he would be using an anesthetic commonly known as Carbocaine, and that I shouldn't worry. I was terrified. I tried to let his voice reassure me, but my mind was not easily led. He had already numbed my mouth with the Q-tip, and was now reaching for the needle. Here it comes, I thought, and I just couldn't bring myself to look. Before the shot could be administered, the assistant places a comfortable pair of headphones on my ears, and quickly turns up the volume. I was so nervous, I couldn't tell the difference between Rick Springsteen and Bruce Springfield! I am not going to lie when I say I felt a sharp prick, and what felt like electrical current being released into my lower lip and gum. Nothing to be alarmed at, just the standard procedure from not brushing as often as I should have. The incessant filing and reaming he was doing to this tooth made me seriously wonder if either. . . A) He was going to inevitably break my jaw. . . (or) B) The reamer was going to come out through the bottom of my face. None of which happened of course, I'm happy to say, and I left the office that day feeling rather proud of myself. After all, I won another bout of dental phobia, and maybe, just maybe I can overcome this thing in time. As for Dr. Brian Mirman, I have only the highest regard for, and will certainly recommend him to anyone in need of root canal treatment.
