They are very knowledgeable, experienced in this field, but what really intrigued me that they are passionate about what they do. On day one they assessed my level on all modules based on my plans on taking the test, they created a roadmap. We discussed it together and that sounded a plan. We worked based on that, there were times I'll get slow due to my full time job and distractions in life but they got me back on track. Definitely that's not possible without the extra efforts from them. There were days I got off days from work and they encourage me to visit the institute and they will arrange for 1 -1 class to keep on track. Who does that? People with passion! I tried teaching Mandarin to my kids with the many resources available (YouTube, Books, etc), but it was difficult. I didn't know what I was doing, but at Happy Panda, the teachers are all very skilled. They knew what they were doing to teach my kids in a fun and engaging manner. In class, the teachers teach the kids how to read simple Chinese books. I'm sure the kids are just memorizing, but by doing the reading/repeating with a physical book, it seems to me that they are learning how to pronounce and recognize the words correctly. They sometimes do Chinese calligraphy, crafts (related to Chinese), and games to make learning Chinese fun. They also use white boards to write Chinese characters to practice writing. So far, my kids are excited to go to class everyday. They're eager to tell me what they can say in mandarin after class. I also love that I get to reinforce/review what was taught in class at home because of the resources Ms. Lin provides to the parent.

When my son was attending a different bilingual school last year, I often caught the Mandarin teachers speaking English to my son because he was American-born. Cometa's summer camp is truly one of a kind and we are so glad we got to be part of the very first…read moregroup of campers. Our son, age 7, did a one-week summer camp session and loved it. Like LOVED IT. I am writing this at the end of the week because my son was demanding I cancel next week's camp somewhere else so he can go back to Cometa. They have great hours, well-planned days with lots of opportunities to learn and practice Spanish, daily outings using their vans (the outings were very fun for our kiddo), and home cooked meals and snacks. Our kid did the "cooking" week and he was truly transformed by it. I think the staff did a great job choosing simple recipes that were delicious too and were very patient and caring during the lesson. Everyday they made something new and that was super fun. We are so happy with the staff, they were very professional and child-centered, and exuded warmth and a sense of belonging for the little ones. We plan to come back next summer and for other camps during the school year. They do aftercare too, but we're based in San Leandro so that doesn't work for us.
