If not for the good folks at Westport Family Medicine Center, I wouldn't be able to go back in tomorrow. I went to their patient-only walk-in clinic yesterday and was out an hour later with a diagnosis and three prescriptions that have been working wonderfully to bring me back up to full speed. Although the doctor I saw was not my PCP, he did a great job at making me feel comfortable and taken care of. I've been a patient of Dr. Jane Li since December and the level of service the doctors at this facility provides is above and beyond. I switched over from being a patient at the STARR Clinic near my home and the difference in service and quality is astounding. Their facility was recently renovated and everything is brand new and squeaky clean. If you're looking for a new PCP, I can't recommend switching over to Westport Family Medicine Center enough.

This put a huge damper in my day, as a walk in should be open at least during normal work hours with no interruption. The waiting room has absolutely no warmth at all, but it's funny, beyond the doors of the waiting room, there were touches of niceness scattered around. The room I was in the first time overlooked a pond. Definitely would recommend for a townie.

However, Every time I have come here, including today, the physician will give me a run around with no actual explanation of what's wrong, then tell me I need to go to the E.R. Mostly because they don't do any type of labs or tests here, so if your issue requires that you might as well skip the extra bill and waste of time. The actual physician seemed annoyed in her tone, and seriously lacked bedside manner. All she said to me was " well I can't do tests here" "so you need to just go to the E.R since I'm not sure what's wrong with you and you don't have a history of any related issues " I try to avoid clogging up the ER when it isn't an actual emergency, so of course this is frustrating when you can't get into your primary care provider either. Probably will stick to Hawthorn if I ever need urgent care in the future.

So today my husband and I scheduled our appointments back to back. His was at 2pm, mine at 3pm. We were both here on time. My husband 15 min early, and I was 30 minutes early. Well it is currently 3:40 and I have yet to be seen by the doctor and my husband is still here waiting. I understand covid makes things a little slower, but this is unacceptable! I've thought about switching Drs for a while now but this has solidified my decision. Unacceptable to keep a patient waiting almost 45 minutes and my poor husband who has been sitting here since 2pm (it's currently 3:45). At least check-in within 15 minutes to let me know you're running really behind allowing me the option to leave!!

But if you end up seeing Petrillo-Bolanos, expect to be hustled out of the examination room as soon as she has performed a perfunctory examination. Don't expect any follow-through nor follow-up. Once you are out of her examination room, you are forgotten. And don't bother leaving a message for her, she won't return your call. Can't speak on Dr. Nace nor Dr. Fitzhugh, have never seen either. What you gotta watch out for with this place is their billing practices. Even if they have all your insurance info, and you have no co-pay due, don't be surprised if you get a bill anyway. They have pulled this with me and my wife more than once. My guess is that they send phony bills to elderly people, (we qualify), in hopes that they are intimidated, or just don't know any better. Hawthorn Medical is part of the Steward Health Care system, which was once owned by Cerberus Capital MGT., but is now owned by a consortium of doctors, who, hopefully, care as much about their patients as they do their wallets. Unfortunately, our beloved doctors adopted the business practices of Cerberus, whose motto was, "show me the money." If you remember your Greek Mythology, you will remember Cerberus - the three headed monster who guarded the gates of hell. Nice symbol for a health care facility. Finally, if you have an urgent need for urgent care, (not an emergency), and you go to the urgent care facility, only to find that your urgent need is subordinated to those who have made appointments ahead of you presumably because their urgent need could wait until the appointed time, then where, pray tell, is the urgent care?

I didn't realize it but I must have made a face. He asked me if I was worried and would it make me feel better for him to do a biopsy. I said well, yes He took a bio and it was melanoma. He got me into the hospital ASAP where a surgeon removed it three years ago. I worked for a country doctor for seven years. He was highly regarded in my community. I remember him saying to me that dermatology problems were very difficult to diagnose since there are so many different conditions. I moved to Arizona but ret urned this year. I couldn't wait to see Dr Reich. He's really wonderful.
