My 17 year old granddaughter had been experiencing a scratchy throat for a few days, which by 6am on Sat., July 28, 2018 developed into nausea, 100.7 fever, chills and very angry looking tonsils with white stuff on them. With no improvement by Sunday morning, I suspected strep throat. Not wanting to wait until Mon. if she needed antibiotics, I took her to the Rowlett Minute Clinic located in the CVS at Rowlett Rd. & Lakeview Parkway on Sun., July 29, 2018, around 11 am. There was no wait as she was the only patient. The demeanor of the NP on duty was condescending, distant and indifferent. She did a quick (negative) strep test, offered to do more extensive testing which would be sent to an off-site lab with results and additional billing delivered to me in 3-5 days. I declined and the NP printed out a receipt for the $164.00 I paid for her "service" along with 8 pages of "boiler-plate" instructions. She then sent us on our way. No over the counter recommendations; not even a "hope you feel better". On Monday morning (less than 24 hours later) I took my granddaughter to her regular Doctor so that she could receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. The Doctor took one look at her tonsils and said, "I don't even have to do a test; she has strep throat with all of the classic symptoms, and is extremely contagious". Antibiotics and anti-nausea medication were prescribed and she is now sleeping after spending a needless day and night in pain and suffering. Bottom line, my opinion is that this clinic is a waste of time and money. It certainly was of mine and prolonged the time it took for my granddaughter to receive proper care. read more
