Bit of a mixed experience this weekend with horrible upfront scheduling, check-in and wait time,…read morepartially redeemed by capable care received at the end. My wife was up most of night with horrible headache from a sinus infection. Thought urgent care was best option, and the O'Fallon WellNow was most convenient. At 10:15am, I scheduled an appt online for earliest available 11:15am. Arrived 10:45am, was given a tablet to complete registration. I helped my wife fill everything out because her head hurt so much. Woman at check-in not sympathetic or empathetic. Finally shown a room at 12:10pm, doctor appeared 12:45pm (hour and half after scheduled appt). Doctor WAS empathetic, listened carefully, was capable and professional. So despite the disappointing upfront experience and amount of time involved, we were able to receive competent care in the end.

What shocked me the most was how many open appointments they had both times. I was able to be seen same day. I love the app. Easy to make an appointment. The text messages took me a minute to figure out because I assumed you cancel and do everything online. No ma'am. You can use a text to cancel and check in when you arrive! Come on technology! Both times, the ladies at the reception desk and the nurses/doctors I saw were very nice. They listened to my symptoms, explained what was going on and quickly made a diagnosis. I didn't have to wait more than maybe 30 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. The waiting area is clean and has amenities like a coffee station and even an arcade game. They have Kleenex and face masks available for those who need them. I'm so impressed with this place and I'm glad we don't have to wait weeks to see our primary doctor or wait 24 hours in an emergency room!!!

Being able to get (basically) immediate care was really great. I joined the waitlist online and made my way there when it was my turn. They started me out with a hearing test, and then I met with the doctor. She prescribed me with some meds to try to help the problem, and gave me a couple of possible causes for my attack. It was still so early, so it was hard to eliminate all of the possible factors. I do wish I was given a print out and more information, as I think it would have been helpful for my future appointments at other doctors, but I walked out empty handed. I continued to have problems and called again the next day. The doctor was pretty prompt in calling me back which I genuinely appreciate. All in all, it's a solid service given what it is- walk in. Front desk was really helpful, and everyone was really kind.

As I wanted to be seen to have my ears cleaned, I thought it would be easy. The website was a no go, as the staff would have seen me in a week. So I dropped in or walked in as they now allow. The walk in process ended up taking about 60 minutes. Not terrible, but not exactly as expected. As I will be traveling and not back in town for a while, I wanted to get this done. This urgent care is woefully understaffed. There was only one person working the entire time I was…read morethere. She tried mightily to handle customer service, testing, sanitation, coordination with off-site staff, and more--and I do commend her for her efforts. But this is no way to run a health clinic. I was really taken aback by the fact that, once I accepted a telehealth appointment with a nurse practitioner, I was expected to discuss all of my symptoms and treatment options using the receptionist's phone--in full earshot of everyone in the waiting room (though there were only a couple people; one was a minor). I question the legality of practicing medicine in this manner, ie, who is supervising the clinic if no doctors are on site? Are nurse practitioners in Illinois licensed to provide care and prescribe without direct supervision? Furthermore, while the nurse practitioner I spoke with was as kind as can be, their medical advice wasn't helpful. For an unknown respiratory issue I described, they prescribed over-the-counter meds including a sleep aid (although they knew I already had an Rx sleep aid from my own doctor), and a common motion sickness remedy (although they knew I already had an Rx anti-nausea med from my own doctor). They also prescribed a cough suppressant that was just plain ineffective. I don't doubt their intentions, but when I was able to see my own doctor days later, he was frustrated that they didn't prescribe any antibiotics (not knowing whether my infection was viral or bacterial), and at the OTC choices I was given. Moreover, he immediately ordered a chest x-ray, which found that I had already progressed to acute pneumonia. I would return to this urgent care only if--like the day I went there--I had no other choice. And that would be silly, considering there's a reputable hospital right across the street.

The wait was lengthy (1 hour in waiting room and even longer in the exam room) but the care was of good quality even on such a busy day. I received a script and was told which pharmacies were open on the holiday. The next AM, I received a follow-up call and was able to ask questions I hadn't thought of during my exam and swab test. The person on the line was very helpful and knowledgable. If anyone in my family falls ill on a weekend or holiday again, we will return to this facility. It's so, so much better than others I've ended up at. One thing I'd change-- having both a radio and TV playing in the waiting room is too much. We are already miserably ill and the dual noises compounds the headache.
