Gerhardson Chiropractic - The Soul of America

I had given this place 5 stars and had no choice but to change it because of this last experience…read more After 9 months, I was in desperate need of a massage. Like so many others who are COVID CRAZY. Booking with whoever was available because my usual lady(who was the best massage therapist EVER)must not have been there that day or maybe she didn't come back to work with all this COVID, I don't know...what I do know is never in a million years did I think that a reparable chiropractic Business would higher an openly racist massage therapist. I'm not sure if it was my BLM mask that set her off or what...but after I was on the table, face down, and vulnerable this woman decided to share how she really felt about black people. After asking me probing questions about my personal life and finding out that my husband is originally from Nigeria. She told me that there was No Racism in America! And that black people needed to stop with all this Victim Mentality! I'm Sorry...did she just really say that??? 4 years ago my family had our cars vandalized by 2 white kids from our school district, and we live in Sartell. They wrote awful racial slurs all over the windows....so don't tell me that there is NO RACISM! This was 30 minutes into my massage. I didn't know what to do, or what to say. I felt like a deer in headlights. The whole time I was there, it was like being trapped. I kept telling myself as soon as it was over I would ask to speak to the owner and report her....but what if the owner already knew how this woman thought?!? What if the owner thought the same way? I made it about an hour an 40 minutes before I finally found my voice. I asked her to stop. Then told her that what she had said about black people was completely out of line and racist! To please get out, so that I could get dressed! When I went to pay I was in tears of anger!!! I told the woman at the front desk the massage therapist had said racist comments. I insisted on paying but would NEVER COME BACK! She of corse would not take my card. She had no idea what had just happened, and informed me she would tell the owner. The owner did call. Though she left me a nicely worded voicemail apologizing and informing me that she would speak to her employee about the incident. The woman would be told what was appropriate to say to clients during a massage and reprimanded. It was all the things that Business owners say to save face in these types of situations. I haven't returned her call. The thing that bothers me the most is the lack of authentic concern on the owners part. (I would have crawled over glass to make such an ugly wrong, right if something like this occurred in my business). Not only that...but I'm white. Could you imagine what that would have been like if a Person of Color had this happen to them instead??? The fact that they did not fire her on the spot speaks volumes! It is the lack of humanity we see for someone who isn't the same skin color as us! I would NEVER allow anyone to treat another human being like this. Just because you personally haven't had to experience such a horrible thing doesn't mean it doesn't happen! It just means you've been lucky enough to be born into a group of people that are more fortunate then others. I thought about not saying anything about this. I wonder if it would even do any good?!? Then the words of the late great John Lewis' came to mind. "It is not enough to say it will get better by-and-by. Each of us has a moral obligation to stand up, speak up and speak out. When you see something that is not right you must say something. You must do something. Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part to help build what we call the Beloved Community. A nation and world Society at peace with itself. Ordinary people with extraordinary vision, can redeem the soul of America." ~John Lewis' I'll be just fine....it's my kids and husband that my heart is always sad for. Because if this horrible human being had the audacity to say this to ME. Imagine what she would say to them.

I can't say more about how great everyone is at this clinic. I've been getting adjusted by Lacie…read moresince the day she started her Chiropractic career. She helps me sooooo much with my headaches! Wouldn't go anywhere else! Fantastic clinic!
