This Saint your Papa's village! No, this is Saint Anthony's village…read more Minneapolis is in many ways dissimilar to a lot of other cities in the country, and one of the ways it is so different, is that has a lot of little Villages within the city. Buffalo has a couple of these but nothing quite compares to the ones here, and one of them is Saint Anthony Village. It actually has a huge Mall as part of it although it's in the City of Roseville technically - I'm not really sure how they define these things. Saint Anthony is sort of within Roseville. It's a nice affluent part of town a few miles north of downtown, with absolutely horrendous traffic. I like it and on the other hand I don't like it because of the traffic. It is the most popular Mall in town other than the gargantuan Mall of America. A lot of people from all over the area come to these parts if they don't want to Brave the massive Mall of America.

It's directly north of the Rice Street Library. There are a lot of youth activities going on here. They have meeting rooms dedicated to teens and kids, lots of scheduled activities for kids such as the "Rec Check" after-school program for grades 1-5, and at 4:45pm on weekdays they will serve free meals and/or snacks to needy kids under 18. Lots of organized sports take place here, including one that I hadn't heard of called "takraw", which like volleyball with your feet! There is an indoor gym with lots going on - I asked about pickleball and they have only a small amount of hours each week where they are set up for pickleball. They do, however, have a nice fitness center above the gym with reasonable rates, particularly for St Paul residents. No showers though. There are rentable spaces, including a "teaching kitchen" as well as conference rooms intended for groups of 12+. I was curious about smaller office spaces and it seems like I could just camp out on one of the seating areas easily enough if I were by myself. The building has a lot of glass, very sunny and pleasant. They are very proud of the sustainability efforts that went into the design of the facility. There are very modern geothermal and solar power systems as well as a giant underground rainwater basin which literally protects the neighborhood from flooding. And this is my new polling place, which I guess is a bit nicer than going to the nearby schools like I've always done. The whole thing is just such a visible improvement to the neighborhood that it makes me feel better about living here!

Visited Minnehaha Park the first time with my co-workers in 2023 then took my hubby to see the waterfall during the July 4th extended weekend. The park is a short 10-min drive from downtown Minneapolis. The falls had a good flow this time... just beautiful to see! We didn't have time to hike all the way down but a wilderness waterfall in an urban setting overlooking the Mississippi River?? "You betcha!" I wrote lengthy reviews for each so I won't say much about them here. One more thing I really like about Minnesota... I've never seen so many huge American flags during our travels. I love it! Once you see Lions Tap restaurant (good burgers by the way), just head north about 1/4 mile. There are a few parking spaces for you to stop at and there's a pipe sticking out of the ground that runs fresh drinking quality water year round. It is always clean and always cold. If you sit there and watch for awhile, you will see that every 3-4 minutes someone will stop, fill up a bunch of water bottles, and then get back in their car and drive off. I would guess about 200 people a day stop there. The Lion's Tap restaurant nearby even has some water containers there because they know a lot of people come there before or after going to the spring. There is also a small nature park and a stream there. It is very popular, but is the water coming from a pipe at a roadside stop safe to drink? Yes according to the city of Eden Prairie, who regularly tests it for safety. Although they warn that spring water's quality can change from time to time and it is possible to get a bad batch. It seems most people don't trust their public tap water for drinking regularly. It has long been known that plants don't do as well on tap water because of the chemicals used to treat the water (especially the chlorine.) Spring water is always cold because it comes from deep under ground. And it is always clean because the very dense soil filters out the impurities. It is forced above ground naturally because of the pressure the earth puts on it. It carries minerals natural to the ground. And many people are convinced spring water carries curative properties A gallon of bottled spring water costs more than a gallon of gas, and 1/4 of all bottled water (like Aquafina) is just filtered tap water (you have to read the label carefully.) It has recently been shown that a lot of bottled water contains harmful industrial chemicals (phthalate, adipate, or styrene) leached from the plastic bottle. I was weary that it would come out muddy but to my surprise it was crystal clear and not a grain of soil to be found in it. It did taste a little different than tap water though. It tasted a bit like the hard tap water (no water softener) I had in one of the homes I used to live in. After a few sips it seemed to taste even better than I was used to drinking. And surprisingly enough, the dry scaly skin on my shoulders became soft within a few days and stayed soft until I ran out of spring water. It became soft again when I went and got another batch. Go figure.

Located in Eden Prairie, this spring is set in a very pretty setting and the water flows continuously out of a pipe so it's easy to fill up your bottles. If I had more time, I would have hiked a little since there are some trails and it was a beautiful, chilly day. There's a nice little place to pull up and park near the spring, the day I went, it was fairly busy with about 4-5 people filling bottles and this was right before all of the craziness with coronavirus. My only advice would be to go early, that way you might be able to avoid the rush, if there is one. I recommend the spring not only for the water but it's always good to get out and see some of the marvels of nature.
