Caryn Models sent us to John's studio for our daughter's portfolio shots. Luckily we were first on…read morehis list, so he spent generous time explaining the industry and how to get the best shots. Our daughter, 14, is naturally nervous in new situations - but John created such a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that she "fell right into place." His studio is super cool, located in a historic warehouse, recently renovated in NE MPLS. It has a rustic, yet fashionable feeling, with neat wood floors and a huge metal door that opens up to a old loading dock. When we left our daughter asked if John would be shooting for all the events in the future. And we giggled. Probably not. But that's what she was hoping for. :-)

Just a few pieces of feedback. 1. From the other reviews on Google, the pictures do tend to come back slower than other photographers. If you are patient and can wait 6-12 weeks for your pictures to be returned to you, Tiff was able to turn around our pictures in 6 weeks. 2. The photo studio was in her home, which was nice. However the space heater was on since it was mid-winter and I swore my significant other and I thought we were going to pass out. I'd recommend at least putting a love seat in the studio and suggesting small breaks to get some fresh air. It's tough to sit on the floor or small fold up ladder for 2-4 hours. 3. To add to the home studio experience, it would be great for Tiff to add a water machine or offer water during the shoot. We were told 2 hours but the shoot last just a little over 4 hours with twin baby boys. We were soo thirsty when we left, we never go to McDonald's but our first time ever, we stopped by the nearest McDonald's just to get some water. I know we could have asked, but it would have also been courteous for her to offer water or have her to recommend to bring your own water and even a small snack. The timeliness in the return of our pictures and our less than desired experience in the studio was the reason for the 4 out of 5 stars. Again, I'd still recommend Tiff.

It was nice that we were sent a confirmation email and we received a reminder a couple days before the class detailing what we should bring (a notebook and our camera's user manual came in handy). The building isn't too hard to find when using Google maps as the signage is pretty obvious from the outside. There was also plenty of parking in the private lot. Learning about the techniques beforehand made understanding the hands on activities a lot easier towards the end of class. Appreciated how Dan was willing to answer questions and go above and beyond to make sure we understood the concepts.

Being from out of state, she worked around our schedule to find slots to take our engagement photos and was super quick whenever I had a question arise. Her style and eye is great and she has a way to capture photos without them being too posed. I have heard horror stories of weddings where the bride and groom waited months to get back their photos, not only did Laurie get us a couple photos in a few days for some thank you cards... but she delivered the rest way faster than we expected. She plans out the shot list with you advance, and this helps tremendously to get a sense of timing for your event and when and where people need to be. We were both very happy to find her. And we enjoy looking back at our photos and framing them around the house.
