I had the unfortunate experience of working with Minjoo Lee, and it has been nothing short of a disaster. Minjoo lacks the basic professionalism and competency that should be expected in a tax preparer.
After I discovered major mistakes Minjoo made on my 2022 and 2023 tax return, when I inquired about the e-filing process, I was met with hostility instead of an explanation. In fact, Minjoo flat-out refused to answer my questions and accused me of "wasting his time." As a paying client, I expect clear and respectful communication, not verbal abuse.
What made matters worse was Minjoo's inconsistency. On a call earlier in the week, he expressed regret for his mistakes, even apologizing for how he handled the situation. However, when I requested further assistance, including a follow-up call with my legal and accounting team, Minjoo became irate, refused to communicate with them, and hung up the call. He later sent an email blaming me entirely for the situation, further attempting to avoid accountability.
Later on, I was informed that Minjoo made another significant error in my tax filings - specifically, the failure to carry over a 2022 operating loss to 2023. When I sought to understand what went wrong and asked for help in fixing the mistake, Minjoo attempted to extort me and my company by demanding more money upfront to correct the errors he made, yet never took responsibility for the situation.
Furthermore, when I asked about a discrepancy in the 2022 amendment, where he once again wrote down the wrong refund amount, I was met with more unprofessionalism. Rather than providing clarity, Minjoo became very defensive, screaming and shouting like a petulant child, blaming everyone but himself. This response was not only dismissive but completely unhelpful. Minjoo continues to make the same mistakes and refuses to provide answers. I needed an explanation before proceeding, but I was left with no answers and a sense of utter confusion.
In my experience, Minjoo Lee clearly shows a pattern of avoidance, dishonesty, and a refusal to take any responsibility for mistakes he made. It's clear he is not willing to engage in any productive dialogue and prefers to blame clients when things go wrong. Given his unprofessionalism and inability to resolve issues, I would strongly advise against working with this CPA.
