The store shows its age, there are things placed here and there, so remember to take a good look, you might actually find what you've been looking for. It's always nice when you accidentally run across something you haven't seen in 40+ years. That's how I felt about Shelton's Store. It reminded me of my local convenience store in my neighborhood when I was 5 years old. If I had a dime, it magically turned into a candy bar once inside the store. :)

Let me start by saying this place is NOT a regular gas station or store. When you walk in, you step…read moreback in time and that's what I love most about it. It has charm and character you won't find in a Shell or Speedway. There is usually a group of regulars hanging out at the front chatting. The store is surprisingly large but dark and pretty dusty. The variety of items on the shelves is actually pretty funny and some of them look like they have been there for 40+ years. The couple that runs the place keeps a notebook with all transactions hand written in it. You can get homemade deli sandwiches on the super soft white bread that sticks to the roof of your mouth when you take a bite. Nothing fancy but it's nice to get lunch for 2 for less than $10 anywhere these days. They serve breakfast as well but I haven't made it in to try that yet. They also sell fuel but you can't pay at the pump. I would find that annoying some places but it just makes sense here. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places left like Shelton's.

Inside this eatery is a grill with hamburgers, hot dogs, burritos, etc. You can also get hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soup/ chili, daily specials and breakfast offerings. My husband and I came here twice with our little girl dog (there is outdoor seating but there is also some counter seating inside too) during our visit to Nashville because the food was cheap but the portions were generous. On one of our visits, we ordered: Griddle Cheeseburger, $5.95 prior to tax- My husband opted to get this burger. Just a great old fashion burger made right. Was perfect. Side of Fries, $2.25 prior to tax- Thick cut fries, which I love (I am not a fan for those thin fries). The amount was pretty good for the price. Each fry was crisp, nice and hot. Chicken Salad, $5.95 prior to tax- This salad was huge with lettuce, cucumbers, grape tomatoes (although I wished there were more tomatoes but that is my own preference), lettuce, red onion, shredded cheese and a good portion of chicken. On another separate visit, I had picked a chicken salad again. However the lettuce was all soggy and wilted. I told the employee who charged me about this and she told me I could pick another salad. Sadly all the other salads left seem to have that problem. So another employee behind the grill told me she would be more than happy to make me a fresh salad. I greatly appreciate it as she put that together for me with kale, tomatoes (extra tomatoes and no onions, as I had requested), no cheese and freshly grilled chicken from the grill for me. That really was more than I was expecting and really enjoyed that salad. ---------------------- (Total= $15.46 after tax) I just love the cheap prices this little eatery has and the variety of food you can choose from. If only this place was closer, I would come back more often.

However, the spotty customer service makes me hesitate to recommend it at all. I've been here numerous times and experienced really rude and unprofessional service (e.g. I've personally been and seen others be judged and berated at the photo counter when picking up items "late" i.e. within a week or less of placing the order). Sometimes customer service has been nice or fine, though (e.g. one time the photo department called me when they found my photo order, which I appreciated - since when I went to pick it up the first time, they didn't find it). I return here for the location only, but I wish for a more consistently cordial (if not friendly) and efficient experience.

The Downtown Nashville Walgreens…read more In my estimation, this is the one and only Walgreens in Downtown Nashville that is accessible to Broadway. Disparate from other Walgreens that I am familiar with in major tourist centers, this location is underwhelming for alcohol and souvenirs. With regards to this review, I am using "The Daniel. S Yelp Real Time Feature" where I write from my first-hand journaling experience. "June 24, 2025: We are bound for Walgreens. Walking through the Assembly Food Hall we cut off some of the uphill climb up John Lewis Way that is bothering Dad's knees. Now walking up John Lewis Way we are passing by the historic Woolworth Theater and what looks like a Theater District. At the crest of the hill, we step inside the only downtown Nashville Walgreens. At least the only one I am familiar with near Broadway. This store is "blah" in comparison to the Walgreens that I am familiar with in major cities such as Las Vegas, Chicago, San Francisco, and Denver. Their Nashville caps are overpriced and fail to strike me. They fail to carry the bullet beer (24 ounce cans) that I want to pick up for the hotel room. However, they have cold beverages and snacks that my Dad and Brother are buying. I am headed to Starbucks for my beverage. Toi, who rings up my Dad and Brother, is a friendly and personable Cashier. When we return to the what looks like a Theater District along John Lewis Way, being empty handed of purchases allows me to photograph the Woolworth Theater." My "Real Time Yelp First-hand Feature" elucidates that the Downtown Nashville Walgreens deserves Three Stars.
