Children's Harbor Montessori School - yoga time

Children's Harbor Montessori School

My child comes home with wonderful art projects all the time. The kids also have Spanish and yoga lessons. The school really focuses on the children's development and my child comes home talking about different planets! The school is located in the picturesque Snug Harbor Cultural Center, with a big playground under mature trees. We are very happy here and highly recommend it!

The school environment is unbelievably welcoming to both students and parents and we both felt at home there immediately. Parents are invited into the classroom (for entire class sessions!) regularly to share the school full experience with their children--there is absolutely nothing to hide at CHMS! The entire school is immaculate and gorgeous--classrooms are spacious with tons of natural light streaming in and they feature the children's artwork everywhere you turn. Also, the children have weekly yoga and music classes in addition to art! The teachers at Children's Harbor are all Montessori trained and go the extra mile on a daily basis; they do a wonderful job creating a child-centered atmosphere that really makes students look forward to each school day (even my daughter who was not at all the type to want to go to school in her two years of preschool before attending CHMS), and they individualize the work so that each child moves at his/her own pace and on the appropriate level. The students learn through play--just the way they should at this age. I truly feel that this makes the children really soar! My daughter's teacher takes her personality into account when working with her and this makes all the difference. My daughter didn't have much of an interest in letters at the start of the school year, but now she has mastered them and is reading and writing beautifully. I'm astounded! I really can't believe that she is getting a true Montessori education for FREE because they offer UPK (now known as "Pre-K for all"). I am a teacher and have taught UPK at both private and public schools and have worked at a local college as a supervisor of early childhood student teachers in many different pre-k classrooms. These experiences have allowed me the unique opportunity to gain an insider's perspective on pre-k, and I can honestly say from experience that Children's Harbor really stands out among Staten Island preschools. It's a bit of a drive for us, but I don't mind it all all because I am so confident that my daughter is getting the best pre-k education possible and that this experience will have long-term positive effects on her attitude toward education. Children's Harbor Montessori School is a true gem!

MY EXPERIENCE AT BRIGHT MINDS ACADEMY!!…read more Worked at Bright Minds Academy for a little over four months from September 2020 till January 2021. I worked downstairs with the age group of 6-12 year olds providing assistance to the Lead Teacher to approximately 10-15 students. Children attend Bright Minds Academy for school services while attending class from their original school online. The job wasn't ridiculously strenuous or difficult you basically help with grade school work from first to sixth grade. While working there I did encounter an enormous amount of disrespect from the students who were family/friends with the administrators. I could've tolerated the disrespect if I was getting paid more. During my interview I was told I was getting a raise after my 90 day probation that I never received. It wasn't until after I put in my resignation, I was offered "more money". I declined the offer because also while working at Bright Minds Academy I felt like there was going to be an ongoing problem with the payroll resulting in a delay in payments to their employees. SO BOOM !!! Fast Forward ...No longer working at Bright Minds Academy waiting for my last check and it isn't deposited in my account. (THIS IS WHY THE REVIEW WAS A MUST) ...Not only did administration fail to tell me they had another problem with payroll but my autopay on my bank account came out leaving my account overdrawn and $34/day was charged to my card. I mean the pay at the job was already shit but this was absolutely disgusting. My account showed a balance of $-418.66 BRIGHT MINDS ACADEMY paid me $515.46 leaving me with $96.08. When I noticed I contacted Administration immediately and they told me I would be reimbursed the upcoming Thursday. NOT one cent deposited until Friday when I contacted Administration again and was ignored. I made phone calls and left text messages so now Im leaving review to illustrate how COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL THEY ARE!!! HOPEFULLY THIS ISN'T YOUR SAME EXPERIENCE AT BRIGHT MINDS ACADEMY !!!

I can't recommend Miss Megan enough. To say she changed our lives would not be an exaggeration…read more My wife originally reached out to Miss Megan when our daughter was about six months old. We had just transitioned her from a bassinet to a crib, and it completely disrupted everyone's sleep -- ours and our daughter's. We were exhausted, sleep-deprived, and desperate for help, but we were also very clear that we did not want to put our daughter through a cry-it-out approach. Miss Megan stepped in and, almost like magic, within just two nights our daughter was sleeping through the entire night. I remember thinking she was a miracle worker -- she truly changed our lives overnight. It was a complete game changer for our family. Beyond the results, Miss Megan was incredibly patient and calm. She took the time to walk us through her method step by step, making the process feel manageable and supportive rather than stressful. Later on, she also helped us with our younger son remotely, and once again she went the extra mile for as long as it took to ensure we felt confident and supported. I wholeheartedly recommend Miss Megan to any parent who is struggling with sleep and wants a compassionate, effective approach. She is worth every bit of it.

I paid $4,500 for five nights and six days of in-home sleep coaching for my nine-month-old…read moredaughter. What was promised and what was delivered were two very different things. Before hiring, I was explicitly told this method would involve significantly less distress than conventional approaches, that bedtime would take 20 to 45 minutes, and that I could finally exhale. Instead, my daughter cried so intensely each night that she woke the following morning with red, puffy eyes. Each night ended with me nursing or my husband rocking her to sleep -- exactly what we were doing before we paid $4,500 for help. I raised my concerns after Night 1 and again after Night 2. Meg defended her approach and validated our feelings, but nothing changed. The method continued despite it clearly not working for our daughter. If you are considering this service because of the "no crying" and "co-regulating" promise, please read carefully: what that promise means in practice is that the adult in the room is responsive. It does not mean your baby will not cry -- and cry intensely. When I raised my concerns, the framing shifted. I was told that crying is biologically normal, that it is a baby's only way of communicating, that my daughter has a "big voice," and that we needed to let her cry to "close the loop." There were always new theories to explain what was happening. If I had understood that significant, prolonged crying was part of the process, I would never have hired this service. That is the exact opposite of what was sold to me. Additionally, Meg learned mid-stay that she was facing a personal hardship at home. I offered to let her leave to tend to it, but she said it was handled and wanted to stay. She spent most of Day 3 in her room on the phone and was largely unavailable to us and our daughter -- despite having committed to taking the lead on observing our daughter's cues, guiding her daily rhythm, and coaching us throughout each day of the visit. We ended the engagement after three nights. We requested a partial refund by email. More than two weeks later, I have not received a response. However, Meg did message me on WhatsApp with a presentation titled "Why Meg's Method is a Deeply Responsive Approach" with the note "Inspired by our time together." I would not recommend hiring Meg.
