She always puts me at ease creating an aura of rest & relaxation. I have a preference for a deliciously deep massage of the abdomen during which Anita's expert hands probe deep and at other times glide over the stomach bringing relaxation, stimulation and release of tension delivering complete satisfaction. The sense of fulfilment and well being is amazing and I can without hesitation recommend Anita.

You get younger with every day not older surrounded by the occasional superhuman athlete to look up to not some anatomical failure. When I started, I was in regular pain and seeing myself in a pit of despair of losing my mobility due to back pain/fibromyalgia with a scoliosis about to set in. With a discounted membership for newbies, I went on a one year charge practising yoga nearly every day, sometimes twice a day, at their studio. For the most part, the effects were medical miracles, and though it took me many months to master some basic excercises, and some I am still only average at to say the least, the classes are powerful and stimulating and exhausting, and i have never found anything better. On the down side, i didn't lose any weight, and after you have been to that many classes of Bikram Yoga, even with the variety of friendly instructors, its difficult not to feel that the lack of variety to the program tends to take instructors and students into a realm of robotics, and its a shame that too few of the 'instructors' actually prove to us they can do the poses themselves on the day which is arguably immoral for a 'teacher'? Thankfully other classes are options, though too few of them make use of the heated room option. Whilst the statue of Indian Elephant-Head God Ganesh is cute, its not going to please all faiths. The changing rooms are often over-crowded especially in the most popular sessions. Special note must go to Vinyasa yoga teacher Jude Whitburn who is a breath of fresh air originality and surprise. Worth every penny, not cheap, but no complaints just suggestions.

But there are two good news 1) it stops feeling 'masochistic' after a month of regular attendance as your body adapts 2) when you get out you feel absolutely fabulous ( from day one !) . It is the only intense exercise I have done where your body is buzzing with effort yet your parasympathetic system kicks in and you feel paradoxically relaxed. I have done various sports absolutely nothing compares to the sense of wellbeing at the end of a Bikram class. FACILITIES - I agree they could be a bit better; especially the showers. But overall there is a touch of care and gentleness - you find creams, deodorants, tampons in the bathroom for free. THE TEAM - I found the teachers wonderful: dedicated supportive and fun. There is a team feeling and sense of belonging. I have overshoot my 90days pass and all the unused entries were rescued added to my next subscription. I love this place!

If you are staying at Center Parcs, you can take full advantage of what they have to offer. The spa experience is amazing. The various different sauna's and steamrooms are so relaxing, and then you can go for a dip in the pool. The last time I was at Aqua Sana, I had the infra red treatment before having a Swedish Massage. Apparently the infra red treatment warms up the muscles so they can go straight into the massage and not have to spend the first 10mins warming the muscles. I'll take their word for it, all I know is that it was all amazing. There's a also a cafe area in the spa where you can buy light meals, snacks and drinks.

I'd never experienced this technique before and was unsure what to expect. She immediately put me at ease and noticed where she could help, taking great care to patiently and deftly relieve years of tension and poor circulation (as a result of arthritis in my knee) As I await surgery she has helped me improve and maintain flexibility and mobility. I'd reached a point where I was feeling desperate to move more fluidly but the pain with prohibitive. With a combination of her exceptional technique and physiological insight she has released me from a sedantry and restrictive lifestyle, reduced pain levels and increased my mobility in ways I might I have only dreamed a few months ago. Another huge benefit has been, by working to increase function in my legs, she has also significantly improved my blood pressure, which had become a concern. We decided to test it in one session so I took readings before during and after a treatment, with astounding results: Before; 151/94, During: 144/81, After: 116/64. Admitedly, to begin with, it could be uncomfortable at times, but it was so worth persevering as the results speak for themselves. I simply can't recommend Madeleine enough to offer expert, considerate, life changing treatment. Her knowledge, as a multi-disciplinary body worker, is exceptional and I have a new lease of life! My issues were tight ham strings, short Achilles tendons and minor low back pain. Any slight discomfort during sessions felt constructive, change that's for the better. I was particularly aware of Madeleine's care, concentration and focussed attention, and how she minutely observed my posture and movements before and after work. The clarity of her explanations gradually helped me to understand something of how I had been holding and using my body, and how we were together working on improving that. It seemed to be a short-cut , achieving change that would have taken several years of yoga stretches to accomplish. I came away feeling better in my body, and determined to maintain the changes she had brought about by continuing with yoga stretches and ensuring I kept up my improved posture. I'm still doing both, and very pleased with the whole experience.

They offer a range of beauty treatments including manicures and pedicures, acrylic nails, waxing and facials, but it's the Thai massage that always brings me here. I was a complete convert to the joys of Thai massage when I ended up staying in Thailand for about two months about twenty years ago. Before arriving in Thailand I had spent a month in Rishikeshi, in North India, undergoing a rigorous course in Hatha Yoga, and so I was utterly thrilled to discover that Thai massage offered me the same kind of health benefits that can be achieved with Yoga, but without all of the discipline and hard work! I'm nothing if not pragmatic! In Bangkok I used to visit a temple for my treatments, which was an amazing experience. All the temples have gardens and the area where the massages took place was in a massive room with vaulted ceilings that were held aloft by a series of soaring pillars. This meant that there was no need for walls, and so the gardens were in full view with the scents of the flowers hanging heavy in the humid air. Visiting Thai Beauty & Massage is not quite the same kind of experience, but what it lacks in grandeur it makes up for in style. They provide a number of different Thai massage options. The full body massage is really inexpensive at £30.00, and an aroma massage is £35.00. Both last for one hour, as does the Thai steamed herbal massage (£40.00). There are two half hour treatments, both costing £20.00.

I have only been to beginner classes but have now been on every day they run (all except Friday and Sunday) and the teachers all have a slightly different style. Because of that you need to try it a few times on different days I think, see what pace of class suits you. The building is tucked away off Gloucester Road and is basic to look at but has a lovely atmosphere. It's very peaceful and smells of scented oil. You take your shoes off at the door and there's 2 studios and 2 changing rooms. You pay £10 for a one hour 15 min class but you can buy sessions in bulk to make it cheaper. I bought 12 classes for £84 so that's a hefty saving and after testing the water a couple of times in single sessions I knew I'd want to go all the time. You get 3 months to use the 12 classes. They provide all the equipment for free and they make sure you're happy and comfortable. There's no pressure to tie yourself in knots from day one and no judging - a 60 yr old woman regularly kicks my a*s and I'm half her age! It's first come first served so try and get there five minutes early. I haven't been turned away yet but the size of the class is quite unpredictable. I already feel stronger and today I did restorative yoga for the first time and I loved it. It's taken until now but I'm really into it and I'm historically unfit and don't go to the gym or do any exercise. I'd really recommend this place and yoga in general, I feel healthier every time I go.

It's just off gloucester road on denmark street, right at the end of the little side road. Shoes come off at the door and it's bare foot/socks around the studio. The nicest man ever greets you at reception telling you info. Cost is £10 per class which is the higher end cost wise- totes worth it! The class was busy with about 15 people attending, anne marie was amazing taking into account peoples various balances, hips and strengths. Easy to follow moves with definate pushing to achieve but without injury! Calming 5 minutes at the end left us all feeling calm but revitalised. Def will be booking more sessions, really really enjoyable :)

The nearest one to me, aside from Stokes Croft ones, was Bristol Yoga Space. They were a tad difficult to find, as I was at the opposite side of the road, and there is no big sign telling you where it is, but once you cross the road, you will see a small sign on the pavement beckoning you to go downstairs for yoga. It simply is a studio space, with a little kitchen and bathroom, and decorated very peacefully. It was pure and simple yoga, just how I like it, with lots of emphasis to get the poses right, and I felt completely at ease with my teacher. I just came out of my first class here and feel really great - challenged but rejuvenated, and I would certainly recommend it whether you are a beginner or someone looking to continue your yoga practice. I will be going again next week, and most probably taking up regular classes here. It's really difficult to find a yoga class that really suits, and I'm very lucky to have found one on my first go.
