In researching where we could find some coffee beans to take home, we finally found what we were looking for at Monica Ponde. For coffee, there are really only four options you could choose: Petit Noir, Cafe Bleu, Cafe Fiore, and Cafe Bonjour. Of the four, the three Cafe offerings are from various beans that are sourced and roasted in Brazil. The Petit Noir, however, uses beans from the jacú bird. Since these beans are exotic and hard to find, that's the reason for the R$12 price tag. The shopkeeper and barista were incredibly kind and really took the time to explain to us in English what each menu item consisted of. We loved our Petit Noir cups so much that we bought a can of beans to take home with us as souvenirs. Muito obrigada!

As I gradually acclimate to Rio's slower pace of life (not to mention, erm, unemployment...) I look forward to my morning cup of coffee. Though Armazem do Cafe is a great spot to linger over a cappuccino and a snack, I like that they sell bags of whole bean coffee. With the Cuisinart, I just dumped in pre-ground coffee from Trader Joe's. But with the pour over I use Armazem do Cafe's house blend. They sell about ten varieties, including organic and decaf if that's more your speed. They will also grind beans to your specification. With seven locations around the city, there's no excuse to settle for a bad cup of joe!

There are sound-absorbing ceiling panels, big pretty mirrored lights on the wall, and a fine sandwich menu. I ordered the slow cooked lamb (Cordeiro) but something got lost in translation and they brought me the wrong sandwich. They were very apologetic and brought me the right one after a 10 minute wait. The sandwich reminded me a lot of an Australian burger (the pineapple and lamb combination). It also had some dijon mustard to help offset the sweetness of the pineapple relish. It was a little messy to eat, but only because the lamb was so tender. Sandwiches come with either fries or a salad. I opted for the fries, which were super crispy, and served in a metal scooper (nice touch). But what I liked most was their coffee. The cafe com leite was freshly made and served with tiny stick of fruit preserves (not sure if that's a traditional thing). It was probably the best coffee I had in Brazil. If you have a lazy afternoon or have a craving for a sandwich, I'd definitely recommend Bazzar Cafe.

The wait time was very short -- only about five minutes -- but it was a Wednesday and not a holiday, so I imagine weekends can get much busier. I'd definitely recommend arriving early or making a reservation if you plan to visit on a Saturday or Sunday. The food was excellent. We ordered the Pesto e Burrata, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. We also tried the Picadinho Tapajós, and it was one of the highlights: the beans were perfectly cooked, the farofa mix was amazing, and it came with a beautifully prepared egg and fried banana. Such a comforting and authentic Brazilian combination that I'm sure everyone will enjoy. For drinks, the strawberry caipirinha was spot on -- refreshing and perfectly balanced in sweetness. The passion fruit caipirinha also tasted great, although it could have had just a touch more sugar. We also tried the Limoncello Spritz, which wasn't really our favorite, but it may appeal to a different taste. The real star of this place is the view. It's absolutely impeccable -- honestly, there are very few places in Rio (or even in the world) with a setting this beautiful. Having lunch with a direct view of Sugarloaf Mountain feels priceless. Prices were a bit above average, but considering the location, atmosphere, and unforgettable scenery, it was 100% worth it. Highly recommend!

Per their recommendation I ordered the cappuccino (a drink I normally avoid back in the States) and absolutely loved it. The drink came with sugared lemon rinds on the side which were delicious, while the cappuccino itself was one of the best I've ever tasted. Despite being hardly two blocks from the beach the vibes are calm and tranquil, and I got a lot of work done. If you're in Leblon looking for a nice place to start your morning or want a sweet spot to sit on your computer and do some work while on vacation Armazém do Café is the place to be.

When I go to balada , it is usually to have açai and everytime it has been possible for me to customize it. I usually have my açai na tigela (in a bowl) on the base of coconut water and less Guarana sirup to make it a little bit less sweet. And I have banana and granola on the side. Very well recommended. This is the real açai, creamy and full of taste of this amazing wonder berry.
