I called in December 2025 and again in January 2026 and February 2026 to cancel my mother's subscription as she was very ill and then passed away. The Journal Sentinel only had records of my call in February. I am totally sure they do not keep records past one month and they did not refund the December nor the January payments. They said they would refund the February payment and said it would take 5-7 business days. The last call to them was February 13 and today is February 27. Still no refund. Please do not use this newspaper. They are struggling financially and will grab your money any way they can. read more

I called Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to ask them to please cancel my account as there was a $16 charge on my credit card account. The person who answered was extremely rude and did not respect my boundaries. She said to me, "Please share why you don't want to support us. There's a lot of news and supports that we offer." I repeated that I wanted to close the account. She responded at least 5 times with "We will offer a deal where will you only pay ___ per month." I repeated each time with "please cancel my account." She kept being disrespectful of my boundaries and kept arguing with me as to why I should not cancel my account or gave a new deal. I feel disheartened by my experience. I feel that the customer service and company is not to be trusted. My recommendation is for people to not subscribe nor give money since the company (at least the customer service) is so dishonest. read more

I would avoid signing up for any subscription with Journal Sentinel. I have tried to cancel my subscription 5 times now - yet I am still getting charged and the paper keep arriving. Each time I call they 'promise' my subscription is cancelled and I will be credited back the monthly charge. However, they cannot provide any confirmation number for the cancellation or for the credit to my credit card. When I ask to speak to a supervisor since I have called multiple times without resolution, I am told that the supervisors are not allowed to speak to customers OR Im simply put on hold only to be hung up on after 10-15 minutes. To simply cancel this subscription has taken up 2 hours of my time and the situation is STILL not resolved. update: I finally talked to a 'supervisor' she was the most rude and condescending customer support person I have ever interacted with. She said in a condescending tone "well SIR, we record all phone calls so I will go back and verify you truly cancelled last month". After waiting on hold again for 15min..she comes back on and says "it shows that you called for just over a minute but there is no audio, so I cannot prove you called to cancel". I asked her what about the 3 times after that when I called to cancel..her response..."yeah those didn't record either so you still have an active account and I wont be able to cancel it until the 6th, just call back then". It's a shame what the JOURNAL SENTINEL has become. The print edition of the paper contains hardly any local news. Puff pieces galore...subjects that are totally irrelevant to today's current events.... and when they do publish relevant news it's usually 2 days old. My thoughts are for the digital subscription. Customer service is a joke. They nagged and harassed me to renew with phone calls, emails, and pop ups. Not satisfied with them? Wait a year to cancel or they'll "make an exception," cancel now, and refund you a fraction of what you paid. No pro rating allowed. Customer service and follow through have been subcontracted out! Talked with the subcontractor regarding billing yesterday. The yin and yang. Customer service was located some 14 time zones away and clearly or more closely over the International date line. To say that there was no meeting of the minds, is an understatement. How a Midwest, or for that matter a continental United States corporation, can contract with another organization that is operating in an entirely different day than its customer but 10 hours behind is unimaginable and inconceivable. Customer service is unable to see issues from their customers point of view, walk in the customer's shoes. Customer service was unable to hear our complaint, concerns, and nor were they able to seek to understand our viewpoint. While assisting my father, I learned the customer service representative was located in the South Pacific country of the Philippines. So, while it was roughly 6:00 a.m. Friday there, my father and I were still operating in Thursday 4:00 p.m., the late afternoon. Milwaukee journal sentinel, or Gannett new service, lost my father as a customer earlier this year, in the first quarter or early part of the second quarter. Trying again with the Milwaukee journal sentinel, we learned they keep grudges. The customer service representative brought up things from 2018 while we talked about are new account beginning in the later half of the third quarter of this year. We ended the telephone call because there was no point in continuing until they, the Milwaukee journal sentinel newspaper, has a representative located in the Continental United States telephone us. A prior appointment earlier this month was made by them and they failed to follow through and call us at the appointed time. I'm a long time subscriber and have always looked forward to reading the Sunday paper. A few years ago, I found a really good deal for home delivery so I considered myself a lucky (and happy) subscriber. A few months ago, I received a bill showing that my new rate had gone up 5-fold. I did not receive any notification that my subscription amount was increasing. I would certainly have accepted a nominal rate increase if I had been notified beforehand. I called the Journal, not to cancel but to see if they would reduce this new rate and negotiate a rate that would be amicable to both of us but I was put on hold. Like others, I gave up after 15, 20, 30 minutes and like others, I called back and got nowhere. The paper is sending me bills but I have been unable to talk to anyone or cancel my subscription. I hope George Stanley reads not just my review but all reviews on Yelp. You need to take your customers complaints seriously if you want the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to survive. read more

Every year I receive the bill and I have to fight with the customer service people to get it within reason. But this year was different. I got the bill, all $427.44 of it! I called the toll free 844 number and got a person that was impossible to understand! After 5 minutes of this nonsense, I hung up and emailed them. They were a little slow to get back to me, but they dropped most of the added charges (they were considerable) and told me that it was going to be $24.00 per month. I emailed them back and told them I would cut a check that day for the entire year ($288.00). I already told them for the last 10 years I would NOT give them my credit card for autopay. I asked them to confirm this transaction, and I would mail the check. That was 2 weeks ago. I sent an email asking if anyone was listening...I haven't heard a thing. They just reprint USA Today for national news. Good local sports coverage. On a personal side note, the delivery guy slammed into my car and ran. Caused over $10,000 in damage. Luckily two neighbors saw it go down. The paper didn't cooperate with me or the local police. Ultimately the police handled the matter, but I still can't believe the scumbags at the paper. I love reading the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel digital print edition. It provides a glimpse back to what I consider home. I no longer live there. However, if you need customer service, you are forced to connect to a USA TODAY representative in the Philippines, who may speak English well, but has no understanding of the issues you may be facing. This representative cannot reimburse you if there is a problem receiving the digital print edition. The conversational experience is akin to being in the "Twilight Zone," and you will disconnect having a pounding headache. It is corporate capitalism gone rabid. There is no customer service. Really not impressed with this service at all, either from a delivery perspective or a customer service perspective OR a customer retention perspective. Subscribed at the beginning of November for Sunday delivery and have received 2 out of 5 Sunday papers. Tried calling and wait times on Mondays were 2+ hours. Emailed, and get automated responses with no individual contact information whatsoever. Just spoke to a customer service rep today (who answered the phone surprisingly quickly) and she asked what the weather was like in Milwaukee, so you can tell that they outsource this service to someplace far outside Wisconsin. I fundamentally do not understand why it is so incredibly difficult for them to deliver a freaking paper to a residential home when there are customers on this very same street who already get the paper -- add one to your damn pile for that street and stick it in the box. Back in the day, kids used to do this job, and do it well, so what is the huge leap in skillset in the past 30 years that adults who do it now fail so miserably? One thing I can confirm they are absolutely, 100% terrific, 5-star-worthy at is losing new customers, because they're about to lose this one. read more

I would not even give this business one star, if possible. I canceled my subscription and 6 months later realized they were still taking money from my account. The amounts varied from $4.00 to $16.00. I decided to go back and check my last cancellation when I had moved and sure enough, they took over 18 months of charges from my account. It was the phone call questioning the second cancellation they were still charging for for them to finally cancel the one a year prior. All in all, they have stolen $207.00 from me. And conveniently, to cancel, you have to CALL...they will not accept email, or anything in writing. I documented my calls. Every time I have called to discuss, I am assured of a call back within 48 hours. Crickets. Now they are calling me on my cell inviting me back...are you kidding me??? I'd like to add that I canceled because they no longer have a product to sell. Old news, rehashed news, heavily biased news and little to no actual reporting. They auto renewed our subscription and didn't provide an invoice. The last auto renew $124.15 for 13 weeks!!! $496 per year for a paper that shrinks considerably every few months! The worst part - their published rate is $187.20 per year which they won't honor. C/S states the rate is for new customers only- yet it doesn't mention that on their site AND THEY ARE A COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLISHING COMPANY. We have been getting the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for several years now and this last year, and I mean the whole year, our paper has not been delivered at least 60% of the time. We have contacted the customer service and have been told repeatedly that they will escalate and follow through to resolve the issue ones and for all. Only to continue to not get the paper. This last week we didn't get the Sunday paper, then we didn't get the Wednesday paper, then we didn't get the Thanksgiving paper, then we didn't get the Sunday paper again. Each time we hear their customer service team say it would be fixed and tell us they would have our paper redelivered only to get no paper redelivered, and only to once again not get the next delivery. My recommendation is not to waste your time and money on a business that can't deliver and has no plan on correcting the fact that they can't deliver. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is simply no longer capable of producing a newspaper and delivering it to their customers. read more

I have been a loyal subscriber of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for at least 15 years. I cancelled my subscription today after 4 long conversations with overseas customer service representatives who refused to give me a refund after overbilling me for a 2 year subscription! Never use a debit card when paying for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel because they will charge your card without getting your authorization. When I talked to a representative today (5th time) fortunately I spoke to someone in the United States but he was rude and wanted me to believe it was my fault I was overcharged because if I paid with a card they have the right to automatically charge it. He stated that the prices have increased which is why I was charged $408 for the subscription service! I explained to him that I would never agree to pay that much for a newspaper I only receive on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. After this experience I refuse to give this company even 1 star! Home delivery service is erratic. Paper arrives later and later. The Sunday paper comes as late as 8:40 or maybe not at all. Vacation holds are not adhered to. I came home from Europe to find papers littered all over my drive and lawn despite a confirmation number on my delivery hold. I only get the Wednesday and Sunday paper. A lot of times the Wednesday paper is not delivered. Yesterday I didn't get the Wednesday paper, so I called. A recording stated that due to the weather the paper may be delayed or would be delivered on Thursday. Today is Thursday and no paper. This 1 star is too high of a rating because their customer service SUCKS! I would go as far as to say it is nonexistent! You can't get in touch with anyone by phone without waiting forever and a day, they don't respond to their e-mails despite their auto response telling you that someone will get in touch with you the next busines day and the live talk option gives you a message saying they are experiencing a busy period and there will be a wait for a response.
