Touch is the result of action mechanism adjustments intended to follow manufacturer's guidelines and generally recognized relationships for consistency and keyboard response. It is a sequence of procedures that can vary in its scope depending on the present status of the action mechanism and the degree to which the pianist is prepared to go. There are many pianos with a keyboard touch that has gone un-checked for many years but which, with even 3 hours of regulation adjustments can be brought into so much more playability and responsiveness making the whole playing experience a pleasure. Tone refers to the nature of hammer felt and the degree of brightness or mellowness, tone color, and projection of sound the piano is currently producing. For the discerning pianist this is an adjustment that makes for more intimate artistic relationship between the player and the piano. To all those interested in the piano I invite your questions and input. I will do my utmost to respond most effectively to your needs. It is a pleasure serving the piano owners of western New York throughout Erie and Niagara counties as a piano tuner and technician. What a vibrant musical community we enjoy here...

My Experience: I found DC&D through Roland's website as a certified repair shop, and I called them to see if I needed an appointment. The receptionist was very friendly and told me to bring in the keyboard whenever I was in the neighborhood. I dropped off the keyboard and described the problem to the receptionist, and she took down notes and told me she would call once the technician diagnosed the problem. Within a couple days, I received a phone call from her asking me to come in. When I returned to the store, the technician met with me and informed me of the embarrassing reason for the sound issues. Apparently through my move, the Roland power supply had been swapped with another power supply that uses the same plug but has a different voltage output. I was using the wrong power supply without my knowledge. He said that he checked things out and that no damage had been done to the circuit board. When I went to pay the receptionist, she and the technician refused my money. I explained that I felt responsible to pay them for their time diagnosing the issue, but they wouldn't accept my money. I left happy to know that honest merchants are still around, although I still wish they let me pay. Concluding Opinion: If you require the service of a piano shop, I highly recommend giving DC&D your business. We need businesses like this around, and if they were so generous and understanding with me, I can only imagine that they treat paying customers the same way. I only wish I knew more people with pianos so that I could personally help them get more business.

It was badly out of tune because of a major issue with the straps that control all the hammers for the 88 keys had rotted and fallen off! There was also a crack 8n 5he sound board. The major components of the player part were in really good condition. We decided that the piano held many cherished family memories and proceeded with the repairs. It took several long 8 hour sessions along with our assistance for the job to be completed. The entire piano was taken apart to access the hammers and sound board. We left plenty of time between sessions for us to refinish all the wood while it was apart. We could not be happier with the finished results! It sounds awesome thanks to Carl and looks good too after all our hard work refinishing along with tips from Carl. He has been back twice to tune and we will hav3 him back yearly to keep the piano in shape. I highly recommend Carl for tuning, repairs and he also gives music lessons. Not only does he provide awesome service but he is a very remarkable person!

It was in decent condition originally, but needed total refinishing on the outside and a good chunk of work on the inside. Joe and his team coordinated moving it across states and did a phenomenal job restoring this family heirloom. We couldn't be more happy with how it turned out and would recommend Illos Piano to anyone that asks!

I had been looking for months to find a pump organ in Buffalo and when I did needed someone to pick it up and take it to my apartment in North Park. Illos took all my info by phone (type and size of instrument, stairs, entrances, etc.) and then gave me a quote that was a hundred bucks cheaper than anyone else I spoke with. Come moving day, they were at the pickup location right at the beginning of the scheduled window, had it loaded up before I even realized they were there, glued some damage that they hadn't caused in order to stabilize a part, and then met me back at my apartment. There, they assessed the three possible ways in, got the organ up a half flight of stairs without having to take the railing off, loaded her onto a dolly, and had her where I wanted within minutes. I am so glad that I paid pros instead of trying to move a heavy, fragile, 140-year-old musical instrument myself. Booking, communication, and service were all excellent. And I got this.

His text message responses were always very short and responses sometimes took several hours, but after some frustration we set up a moving time. On the day of the move, Richard was going to be two hours later than the 11am time slot he told me. He did not call to warn me he was going to be late. I only found out when I messaged him that morning asking if he was still planning on coming. Very basic customer service should be that if you're going to be late then you should inform the customer. He blamed it on traffic (you would have thought a mover would have experienced traffic before and would be able to plan around it). Since he didn't tell me in time, I wasn't able to reschedule an appointment I had and so I was not able to complete the move that day. He reached out four days later proposing a new time that didn't work for me. I proposed a range of alternatives across two different weeks and was told that he has no availability. I would have expected that after he screwed up the first time that he would have taken some extra care and would have tried to accommodate my move, but was told that if I wanted something sooner than I should try a less busy mover. I would recommend staying away from "The Piano Guy" for any alternative, even if they are more expensive. The customer service is really that bad.
