To parents of students attending Gregory Drive Elementary this upcoming year, please be vigilant…read moreand aware of your child and keep watch for signs of bullying, teacher pressure, and unnecessary aggressive behaviors by teachers. Know they only go to recess ONCE a week. If that. They consider "resource" to be sufficient, which is library, or video time, or art. They won't get physical exercise daily due to the lack of initiative in the teachers to prioritize this. The adults dont want to be forced outside where they have to vigilently observe, instead opting for a myriad of inflexible rules and rigidity for small children. This last year, "the greatest school on earth," was rated only a 7% for their emotional support/teacher student trust. That is all clearly outlined on the published School Improvement Plan on their website (linked below). This has been a concerning decline for the last 5 years if you care to check the data. My son was VIOLENTLY attacked in the bathroom this year and was not the only child to face this kind of school environment. The administration would like people to see only the charade they portray in order to keep up numbers on students, but the culture at gregory drive was clearly defined by the vandalism they saw on the fence last year. Truly appeared to he how the students felt. You can attend the school Advisory meetings, stakeholder meetings, and make your voice heard, but be prepared, you'll be treated with distain by a school that clearly prioritizes it's adult relationships over its students success. You'll probably be the only parent there at some points, which from kindergarten through 5th, one parent showing up is a problem if we really want the culture to change in regards to bullying and the lack of effort. We moved out of state, thank goodness, and I want to ensure that ANY parent thinking of sending their child to Gregory Drive Elementary is aware of the real behind the scenes. I've interacted with dozens of students who felt ostracized by their school instead of welcome in such an important time in life. Here's the data. Check for yourselves. Be safe. Be informed. https://www.floridacims.org/districts/duval/schools/2431 Gregory Drive Elementary

I don't know what the heck but my cousin came to this school and there was no problem until one…read moreday. One of my cousins had broke their arm in the school and one of the teachers said a student was hitting him which I clearly don't believe. My mother brought my brothers to this school and when my brother came back home. His thumb was all purple and swollen. The teacher said a kid had accidentally close the door on his hand which I wasn't too sure about that yet.

I just want to update my review. My child started in kindergarten there in 2021. We are still there…read moreand she is thriving as a 4th grader. She has beautiful handwriting, a good attitude, a great vocabulary, and she understands self-governance and the virtues being taught there. Her education is well rounded. I continue to be impressed by the robust but doable assignments and projects she brings home. The school is continuing to grow is is focused on continuous improvement, creating a safe environment and one that enables students to learn and to develop. I would humbly submit that the also deliver even more than one could ask for. Additionally, they are regularly offering events, onsite and offsite that you can participate in. The onsite events are not expensive if you choose to do a Spirit night and support a local business it's not too expensive. The new gym, the Hangar (Jet themed of course) is complete, athletics are coming along nicely, they will have more Arts offerings, clubs are happening.... If you refuse to be pleased here I don't know what to tell you. They're responsive. I have not had one experience that made me feel like no one cares. Are they perfect? No, of course not who or what is? But, JXC is damn good. Period.

A year ago I fought to bring the positive reviews to the front but now I understand why so many people rate them lower. The conversations behind parents backs about their students, the two faced conduct... it is really sad. Please don't take your kids here. This place doesn't even care about the laws required during state testing or following the procedures of students who have IEP's or 504s. Also, I pray new teachers run before taking a job here.
