On top of that, the coaches weren't even on beat during the class--it really threw off the flow and made the session hard to follow. Overall, not a great experience.

Every class requires boxing gloves; you can either bring your own or purchase/rent them from Her's. Gloves go for $32/pair and rentals are $2 per class. Each person has a punching target (Bob) used to punch and kick during the class. The instructors are very motivating and encourage the class really well when we go through the moves. They are also aware of that everyone is coming into this class is at a different level and accommodate with modifications for the moves. There is a lot of importance given to form, footwork and using the right body parts to increase power in your punches and kicks (to prevent injuries). Each workout class is 45 mins and during that time, the instructors take you through a warm up, full workout including cardio and strength training as well as a cool down. The cardio and strength components vary depending on which workout you choose. The website describes each workout really well and also tells you what level of cardio and strength is in them so you're prepared before you start. There is a mix of cardio (jumping jacks, burpees) as well as strength training moves using weights in each workout. One part of Her's that I really enjoy is the online booking system. Their calendar view of classes is really easy to navigate through and allows you to book classes up to 1 week in advance. I'd definitely recommend Hers if you're looking for a fun switch to your regular workouts!

Compared to other places I've been to, it was a really effective work-out class and they really helped improve on your kickboxing skills. They're serious about the lessons, not just focusing on cardio. During the summer, you'd see a lot of regulars and also new members joining. My rating for the gym would be 2.5 stars. The reason for the rating is for its customer service and miscommunication. When I decided to start and opt in for 6 months, I felt really welcomed as a new member for the first month. Normally I never sign up for long term memberships, however, I decided to opt in because I was told I could hold the membership if I go out of town or am not able to go even with the membership I'm getting. Two months went by and I contacted the owner directly via e-mail and text informing him that I would like to put it on hold for July, but I was not able to due to short notice. I then requested for September to be on hold during August. I finally hear back requesting for more information, and had responded to it. FOUR months went by without a word, so I decided to follow-up. It was then he informed me that I had to sign a form to change the status of my membership. When I went the same weekend, the owner was not available but had told another instructor to attend to me, that I was there to cancel the membership, which was not my intent at all as I have been requesting for it to be on hold. I contacted the owner wanting to clarify, but it was not until then that I was provided for all the information that I needed over August until January. I wasn't given proper information I needed and wasted my membership for the last couple of months, and no accommodations were made. Great class.. but I felt like the customer service could improve by a lot, and definitely felt the information could have been provided more clearly and much more efficiently.

Hook Up Muay Thai Boxing literally changed my life. After years on the road with a rock band,…read moreeating bar food and drinking, and living an extremely unhealthy lifestyle in many ways, I reached a point where I realized that I could either continue to get less healthy, or do something positive and improve myself. So I joined a major gym chain. Although I liked the gym, after a year, I was not achieving the results I wanted. I had met one of the instructors at Hook Up through a casual fitness kickboxing class, and he invited me to try a class at Hook Up. From the moment I walked in I was hooked. Hook Up oozes credibility. It's hidden (like some back-alley boxing club straight out of the Rocky franchise) behind a tile shop in that industrial section of the city north of Orfus road. As I stepped through the door, I was struck by creak of the bags swinging on the chain, the sound of gloves hitting pads, and the whipping of jump ropes. It was a Sunday afternoon, and the place was busy with people of all walks of life, from couples with pre-toddlers in tow, training recreationally, to competitive athletes getting ready for provincial, national, and international competition. Far from being intimidating, I found the owner/head trainer Jim (National Co-ordinator of CASK: Thai Boxing) and his wife Theodora (a national champion) to be welcoming, and they immediately set me at ease. I quickly got to know everyone there, and I was hooked! The instructors are world class, there are several national champions training there, and the club takes a whole-life approach to health and fitness. After a nutritional consult with Jim, I completely revamped my diet and began a new phase in my life. Hook Up Muay Thai Boxing is a member of the Canadian Amateur Sport Kickboxing, the governing body for the sport in Canada. That brings with it a lot of bonuses not available to members of not accredited clubs (notably access to insurance while training or sparring). It also means that if you want and are able, you can train and compete at CASK sanctioned events and even try to make the National Team! I have been a member of Hook Up now for a year and a half, and in that time, I've reached fitness and health goals I never dreamed possible for myself. I'm 34 lbs lighter than I was when I got married 3 years ago, and my energy level has never been higher. I can run farther than I ever thought I'd be able to, and I'm more confident than I've ever been. In fact, in less than two weeks I'll be fighting in my first K1 rules kickboxing tournament. And that is a LONG way from where I was as a travelling musician, believe me......

This is hands down one of the best gyms ever!…read more First of all, there are some serious athletes that workout here. For example, Gail Kim, the former WWE Women's Champion used to workout here few years back. I think they continue that tradition by sponsoring local athletes. A local business that is giving back to the community, is there anything more beautiful? So space management: There are plenty of free weights to go around. About 20 feet, double rows of free weights with mirrors running all the way + barbell selection is good. Good bench press selection. Usually some gyms have the regular and incline only, so you need to get creative for the declined position, well this gym has 2! and about 5 regulars and 3 inclines + a plethora of adjustable benches. A good healthy selection for those who like to run, they have everything from tread mills to various step machines and ellipticals. One excellent thing about this gym is that people actually do come here to workout. In other words, there is minimal level of gym rats. What are gym rats you ask? It's those people who come to the gym to hang out and not actually work out. Good selection of stationary stations as well. Nicely spaced out so that everyone has plenty of room to workout. I think Fitness 365 really shines when it comes to classes. These are not your run of the mill classes folks! Their classes are taught by athletes. People who make their living my training their body to the peak level! I took their boxing class and no joke, it was taught by a real boxer. The dude was so fit, he had like 3% body fat, insane right? Ridiculously awesome class. The classes range from Zoomba, Yoga, Kickboxing, Boxing, MMA, and Spinning. Changing room is little old school in the mens', but you know what? there is definitely a certain charm to it's old schoolness. It's kept clean, well maintained and with communal shower area. Overall really great experience here, the staff is knowledgeble and very friendly. Trainers sometimes come by and give you tips which is great! The protein shake is actually not bad either... I went for the 6 months special at the time, pay upfront option. My special was around $240 for a 6 month membership. I believe they have various specials through out the year so just ask for the best deal! I highly recommend this gym if the location is convenient to you! 1luv Toronto! and happy workout!

The other kick boxing place on Leslie was closed down and I wanted to try kick boxing versus the traditional HIIT boot camps. I'm glad that I did. I was super nervous and anxious doing this all by myself but as soon as I walked in - I was greeted by the coach who went on a first name basis and introduced me to the staff. I was welcomed by the other guests as well. That eased me into the work out. There was a lady - forgot what her name was, she went through each round with me. It was the fastest, sweatiest work out I've done since the lockdown happened and I felt like death but it was so much fun. It was good to get back in shape. It has been a week of going to the classes and I enjoy them. All of the coaches take the time to walk you through each round and sanitizing the stations to keep everyone safe. I loved how I am getting a full body work out while learning how to do kick boxing. I also love the fact that they have early morning classes, everyone is super nice and the coaches are super patient. I thought I was pretty bad in shape and my coordination SUCKS but the coaches really take the time to help you and I really appreciate that. The price of the sessions aren't too bad and I would say it is better than most gyms that I've researched in the area.

Definitely a great place for a beginner who is looking to shed some lbs and is bored of the traditional gym, but definitely not a fight gym. Or if it is a fight gym they need to re evaluate their levels for classes. Very little technique but more about warm up, and cheesey burn out at the end. Cons: - You really do need to buy gloves, even if it's a trial class because the equipment (spare gloves) smells really awful. And no, it's not the smell of sweat, it's a scent that's rather indescribable. - The claim for TKMT is that no one is judgemental however the instructor said I looked horrible. I don't think she meant it to be offensive, but I was embarrassed since the whole Level 1 class turned their heads to look at me. I think the word was just a negative connotation is all. I suggest you bring a friend for the first trial for a comfortable experience.
