He encourages and motivates each student to reach their potential. I have never had a better work out in my life (that is how I felt after the warm-up, so you can only imagine what a full training session is like). Of course, it offers much more than exercise: I find the sessions help me to focus in other parts of my life, to let go of negative emotions and to feel empowered. The Dojo is a comfortable place with a varied schedule available, and it's great value for money (a membership where you can train as much as you want, and which they will put on hold whilst you are away - if you travel a lot for instance). Bonus: Do a try-out session for free!

You should think of it more as a fitness class (that's what roughly 40 min of each class is devoted to) that teaches some self-defense techniques rather than a martial arts class, especially since it's located in a gym. Super sketchy when it comes to money though. The instructors will use high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy all the equipment through Dan, the owner, even if you're only interested in classes that don't require/need boxing gloves, thigh guards, etc. Really long lead time to cancel recurring billing (over thirty days) and no flexibility from Dan either. For your money, if you're not in the downtown core (and even if you are and can afford a longer travel time) go somewhere else.

Thanks again Dan and I appreciate the free class, I will definitely check out the future classes.

I went to the location near Yonge & Eglinton, expecting to see a dojo like in the pictures on their website (bright, airy, clean). I was disappointed to see that it was in a basement, the walls were dirty & had holes in them. The mats on the floor were also worn looking & dirty. We talked to Chris about classes, etc & he was very knowledgable, nice & friendly. But I was put off by the condition of the practise room. It was one room and a small room for doing martial arts. Which is probably why there are holes in the walls. We watched a class for about 30 minutes with about 8 guys in it. They seemed kind of cramped. I'm giving them a middle rating since I didn't actually take a class. But for the location I would give them less. They might want to invest in new mats or at least take some time to thoroughly clean them & repair the holes in the wall & repaint the walls. Seeing this place didn't make me want to take a class there. Sorry to say that but just my opinion.

He teaches in a way that's really accessible to beginners, while giving options to those more advanced. It's a pretty small and humble space, but the quality of instruction is definitely there. It's a really great way to learn practical self-defense techniques and I definitely recommend trying it out. The classes I've been to have skewed more male, but there's aways at least a few ladies and I feel like it's a very welcoming environment.

Do Not enter a long-term contract with these predators!…read more I paid a one-year membership and started training in the gym last Sep. Unfortunately, I got a bad knee injury during the training just less than a month out. I had to rest for weeks before trying again, and just realized that I could not continue. Hoping that I could recover soon, I did not cancel my membership as they have this "save time" allowing members to carry over the missing training time and extend after the contract expiration date. This was a HUGE mistake. In Mar 2023, I knew that I had to move out of Toronto in May due to a job change, and started contacting them for a refund by email and phone. I contacted them in the next month, none of my emails was replied, phone calls were rarely answered. In frustration, I went to the facility in person. To my dismay, the admin person accused me of showing up without an appointment, and their manager Joshua show no compassion after knowing my situation. Despite having trained for only five weeks in total, they refused to refund me for the entire duration, claiming that the "save time" policy didn't apply to refunds. They only agreed to refund me for the months after I left Toronto, which was four months since May. I have trained in multiple MMA gyms before, and I can confidently say that this is the worst one I've experienced. The only saving grace was the wonderful coaches, but they cannot compensate for the gym's predatory practices. I am utterly disappointed and feel cheated. I sincerely hope others do not make the same mistake I did and steer clear of this gym.

I'm looking forward to see how this place grows over time.

Definitely a great place for a beginner who is looking to shed some lbs and is bored of the traditional gym, but definitely not a fight gym. Or if it is a fight gym they need to re evaluate their levels for classes. Very little technique but more about warm up, and cheesey burn out at the end. If the 90 min class maybe 30 min was actual pad work and it was beginner stuff. 3 punch combo with push kick. Would have got a better work out on a heavy bag at a local YMCA.

Cons: - You really do need to buy gloves, even if it's a trial class because the equipment (spare gloves) smells really awful. And no, it's not the smell of sweat, it's a scent that's rather indescribable. - The claim for TKMT is that no one is judgemental however the instructor said I looked horrible. I don't think she meant it to be offensive, but I was embarrassed since the whole Level 1 class turned their heads to look at me. I think the word was just a negative connotation is all. I suggest you bring a friend for the first trial for a comfortable experience.
