This experience officially solidified my belief that my girlfriend is a long line repellent. (see…read moreBoston RMV review) I'm not exactly sure that the Cambridge City Clerk's office is normally a high traffic area, but as I understand it, anything having to do with the city or state requires a minimum 2 hour wait and donation of your non dominant hand's pinky finger. We were there to get a domestic partnership (not a marriage. Lets be clear) because since Health insurance is required now (gripe mumble gripe) well you know. Anyway, since my company is national, they offer health benies to domestic partners. Thus we found ourselves at City Hall. We walked in. No Line... We were helped right away and with a smile..... We filled out the paperwork, raised our right hand, said we were telling the truth, and didn't have to show any documentation whatsoever........ We were in and out in 5 minutes. WHAT?!?!?! Not complaining, just baffled. The clerk also told us that our license/documentation or whatever would be in the mail tomorrow, but we'll see if that happens. So now we are happily partnered in domesticity, I didn't waste my entire day, we both have all our fingers and health insurance in case we do lose one. Sweet. EDIT: Our paperwork did indeed arrive that Saturday, and retains its 5 star rating.

It looks far more like a church than a library but that isn't exactly surprising since it was originally built as a church way back around 1870. I'm not sure why but for some reason the town hall moved in the building in 1884 and the other parts of the large building were used for various other things throughout the years. Finally in 1972 the town decided the building would be a good place for a library and all the books and other library stuff were moved in. The second floor houses a fine local museum and storage spaces. The library is a fun place to walk around both on the outside and in. Definitely a very cool building with lots of cool stuff inside. Lots of nice places to relax and read or do some serious work. The library also has all kinds of programs including, music, art and crafts and tons of children's activities. Plenty of room to do pretty much whatever you want. The museum part upstairs was closed when we went but the very kind, funny and spunky librarian got the key and let up go up there for a quick look. We didn't linger because we didn't want to become to intrusive. A very, cool library with a very, very cool librarian. This is the classic New England library that has history, charm, ambiance and one very cool librarian working there. A place worth visiting even if it didn't have any books.

A stunning and lovely sight to anyone that loves old stone architecture. The stones are rough and of different types and colors. Gives the building such a cool texture and look. With it's very narrow and vertical shape it reminds me of an miniature version of a medieval cathedral. The huge but not functioning clock almost looks like a giant eye peering out of the top. The inside is surprisingly small due to the narrow space. Just a bunch of administrative offices and people going about doing their jobs. Everyone was pleasant and friendly and enjoyed talking about the great place they worked. I did find a cool spiral staircase that led upstairs but it was just for storage and all the doors were locked. Not even sure they was a way to get to the very top. It didn't matter. The glory of this grand old building is seen from the outside. A town hall to savor and appreciate. Their kind will not be built again.
