General Details I am currently attending this school in…read more2024. The teachers are passionate about your education and the majority of the counselors are trustworthy. The school however does have a bit of a workload, ESPECIALLY for Honors/AP classes. The school food is much better than middle school or elementary school but definitely still has its faults. As long as you aren't absent for anything crucial, pay attention, and ASK FOR HELP when you need it, you will understand your courses. AP Human Geography is an especially tough course because of its workload and the fact that your tests and FRQs are definitely challenging. But there isn't anything to seriously stress over. Student Life 90% of the students are chilled and just want to go about their life, so you won't have to worry about fights or conflicts unless they're clearly being instigated. Vending machines have quality food and sometimes you can even get two products when only paying for one. Navigation around the school also isn't bad at all, the elevators are handicap-only access but you have 5 minute passing periods and stairwells all not too far from each other. I will be honest though that there is an issue with students and vaping, but it is not widespread and it will not be forced on you. The #1 goal of the staff at Lakes is to make YOU feel like you belong and can be on the path to the career you want. There are after school events and clubs for everyone's tastes. There are also emails sent out every Monday for your missing assignments to you and your parents and emails of your grades on every Thursday to the same people. There are also plenty of original staff members still here or staff you'll see mentioned in other reviews, such as Mr. Rowells and Mr. Blevins. These teachers are absolutely top tier. If you're looking into anything that has to do with theater/theatre, this school has one of the most advanced set building thinga ma jiggers out of high schools in the state, plus the teacher ( Mr. Esquivel ) is a great person that is especially easy to get along with. Lengthy review, but its everything you need to know.

Last night my coaching staff and student-athletes at Beloit Memorial High School had an…read moreuncomfortable experience that resulted in us feeling unsafe at Westosha Central High School and ultimately not competing in the Varsity game. As the JV game was winding down (after our bench received multiple technicals for cheering throughout the game), a referee approached me and stepped within 2 inches of my face stating "I should've ejected you from the game but it's too late now. So you need to just sit there, shut your mouth, and watch the game" as he was simultaneously wagging his finger in my face. I asked him to step back out of my personal space and he responded, "I don't have to". I stood up to repeat my statement as the referee did not step back out of my and my girls personal space. He then became even more disrespectful and disgruntled I would not "sit down and shut up." As this altercation is happening , I saw who I now know is the superintendent sitting at the scores table closest to our bench. He did not see an issue with the interaction that just happened as he did not move a muscle to stand up for us and tell the referee he was out of line. He actually waved over the sheriff on duty to have me "removed" from gym for asking a referee to not invade my personal space. The Athletic Director told my coaching staff that he was going to report us to the WIAA if "she" doesn't play this game instead of coming to see if we were okay, if our student-athletes were okay, or what next steps would look like. He and the superintendent never adressed me at any point during this time. They actually continued to walk past me this entire time as if they did not know I was the Head Coach. After getting approval from our District to leave, we were told we had to leave out of the back door and could not exit through their gym which is the way we came in. I told them we were going to leave the way we came in as my student-athletes were not the aggressors and would not be treated as such. As we were exiting, a handful of cheerleaders, student-athletes, and parents/fans started making "ooh ooh ah ah" noises and gesturing like a gorilla. This was triggering for the student-athletes, but our coaching staff advised them to continue walking to the bus as their safety was our main concern. We notified the Westosha Superintendent right away, however did not stay for the follow up action. The student-athletes deserve to play in a safe environment at all times. Whether it is the JV2, JV, or Varsity level. We are a family and one program. Our Coaches deserve to be treated with respect in all spaces. It is such a tragedy for these young student-athletes to have to continue to experience these discriminatory and aggressive actions towards their program. I will never allow these young women to play in an unsafe environment. I will not continue to be disrespected by individuals who believe their status gives them freedom to disrespect black women. We are not animals and we are not supposed to just get over it. My girls JUST WANT TO PLAY BASKETBALL! Thats all we want is to play the game we love in SAFE and WELCOMING environments! -Coach DJ

If you want to get a good education and go off to college you can certainly do that. If you want to get involved in the drug scene then you can certainly do that as well. My only complaint is that the school does not put that much pressure on kids to go to 4 year institutions, instead they really push CLC (our community college). I never felt that much of a push from the school to apply to selective colleges and that's something I wish would change because we have all the recourses to send kids to Harvard but the school just doesn't push that enough. Overall 8/10

Many areas that are normally required to learn were left out and gone unacknowledged. With the prior knowledge and understanding I already had while I was taking one of her classes, I became very surprised, in a negative way, when so much crucial material was not addressed. I'm very unsatisfied with the incredibly light, tip-of-the-iceberg, scratching-the-surface course of study that was supposedly "taught." Very mediocre job and as an Honors class, the students deserve more in depth learning. The units listed on the syllabus were definitely not covered in full detail. Below minimum. I was so excited to re-learn certain things again, but to my dismay, they were either very watered down, or just skipped over. She specifically said "we are not going to do a whole unit on World War I." The utter audacity to deprive her students, ones she doesn't even deserve, of information regarding the essential history of our world is sickening.
