I asked for more information on an item he had listed and when I told him it was too expensive for me right now, he sent a message saying what an incredible "waste of time and effort" the getting more info was. "Never contact me again" he wrote. Mind you it was 3 photos and a best price. So hard. He's acts like miserable man and he'll TRY to make you miserable if you don't do everything his way. Worst customer service EVER!!! I found a pair of chairs online and thought they were pricey. I called Mill House Antiques and spoke to "David". We negotiated on a price (sight unseen) and told him that once I see these chairs and they are what I'm looking for and worth the price, I will buy them. No problem. Well...there was a problem. My friends and I drove to Long Branch so we could see the chairs in person and hopefully pick them up. The chairs were nice but not worth the price we negotiated. I usually don't negotiate on items I haven't seen but since we agreed on a certain amount, it was worth the drive to take the look. As soon as my friends and I walked into the store, we just knew we would be dealing with a fast talking shyster. Long story short, while my friends and I saw the chairs, we looked at them, sat on them, etc, just to see if they were worth buying. In the meantime, the idiot (David) was on the phone (doubt if anyone was on the line) talking loudly and obnoxiously within a foot range of us. Finally, he was "polite" to get off the phone. And instead of maybe asking, "How may I help you?" he asked, "What seems to be the problem?" I guess he was hoping this was going to be a swift and easy transaction. Sorry buddy. I told him that the chairs looked better online. They weren't bad but they weren't worth the price he was asking. He carried on saying that he worked out a deal with me already and he's not going any lower and continued on to say he can get triple for these chairs if he sold them in New York, and that this wasn't "Walmart"...all while raising his voice. Mind you he went half off on the price. If they were worth their weight in gold he shouldn't even have went that low. And the Walmart comment was...interesting. I agreed with him that this wasn't Walmart because I get better service there. He was loud, rude, condescending, and pretentious. He kept saying that he wasn't desperate to sell. Great! Because I'm not desperate to buy. He was upset because I wanted more off. The chairs were not worth the price, so if I wanted to get a better deal thats my choice. That's the name of the game. David then began to curse at me. Yes he did. He said the "F" word. Yup! And my friends were not having it. My friends ( my ex bf and his buddy) are old school Italians. That's all I'm going to say. But the jerk wasn't worth it. He was scum. He was rude from the beginning with the phone call, didn't want to hear my concerns about the chairs, was condescending and he judged me. He kept saying that this wasn't Walmart and his place was for people that had money. Ha! I love when ignorant people try to "size me up" and "count" my money. It's knee-slapping hilarious!!!! Mind you we were the only customers there (no customers were beating down the doors to get in), we drove all the way from Hoboken/ Jersey City to Long Branch, so we were serious buyers. If I couldn't afford it I wouldn't buy it. I consider myself a savvy consumer. Anyways, the best part of our morning was when he threatened to call the police. Ha!!!! My friends and I all looked at each other and walked over to him with our cell phones and pleaded for him to call. We didn't commit a crime. Please call! David of Millhouse Antiques is a crook! He lacks good customer service skills and at the rate he's going, he's going to go out of business or better yet he'll mess with the wrong person and get his teeth knocked out of his head. NEVER AGAIN!!!! ETA: This is in response to the owner's very late comment to my review. He waited nearly six years after I visited his store to leave a comment filled with lies. He claims that I tried to extort him and I yelled anti-Semitic slurs at him and other nonsense. He knows the truth. The chairs looked nothing as pictured. And they didn't meet my expectations and I didn't want to buy them. He said I wasted his time then began to insult me with racial slurs and accused me of being cheap and how his business isn't Walmart. Owner also claims I physically assaulted him. LOL, I'm speechless. I've already written my review of my experience a long time ago. The owner is bitter and he wants to try and defame my character now. Mill House Antiques is a treasure trove of gorgeous, high quality antiques. I saw a beautiful break front online and called Mill House to find out the item's condition and provenance. David was extremely helpful, describing the piece and offering to send me more photos. After viewing Mill House's "virtual tour" on you tube, I knew I had to see the store for myself. I hopped on a plane and made it to Long Branch, NJ. Best decision I could have made - the break front was every bit as beautiful as in the photos and the store was packed (2 levels) with amazing, beautiful items. One of the unique treats was to see the pieces restored with such care - Mill House has expert restorers on site and I was able to see several "before and after" restorations on site. Having confirmed the quality and beauty of the item, I knew I had to negotiate the price. I was a bit concerned that after flying halfway across the country I would not have much leverage negotiating a price on the item, but David was more than fair with very little hassle involved in the negotiation. I'm thrilled by my experience at Mill House. David, John and everyone in the store were gracious and it is apparent that antiques are their passion. After 3 or 4 hours browsing their amazing inventory, I left having purchased 9 items! If only everyone in the antiques trade were as helpful, knowledgeable and honest as these gentlemen, I would not have had to fly cross-country to buy antiques. My experience at Mill House Antiques was one of the best and unforgettable shopping trips I have had. It rivaled antique stores I've visited in NYC. But more than the exquisite furniture was the amazing customer service shown to us by Ali in the carpet and antique department on the second floor. He showered us with attention and kindness, thoughtfully educating us on the different carpets and techniques of production. His love of the craft clearly came through and it made the experience so enriching. He will treat you as family, not as a customer and it is a type of kindness that is so rare these days. It made a huge impression on me and my family. The prices in Mill House are very fair and they are willing to negotiate. There are so many treasures in this emporium that are displayed in an elegant way, not like the tangled, crowded mess that some antique stores have. I can't begin to tell you what a great buying experience I had with Dave and the folks at Mill House Antiques. I purchased a wonderful 120 year old grandfather clock that I saw on the web and had it shipped to Iowa from New Jersey as a present for my mother. I have to admit I was a little nervous about having such a beautiful antique shipped that far but it arrived in wonderful condition. They gave me a really good deal on the price and even recommended a local clock guy to set it up who proved to be very knowledgeable. After having read the one really bad review that I've seen here I would have to say that this person had "issues". My whole shopping experience from beginning to end was nothing short of awesome.
