I love this place! After Joanne's closed, I was looking for some fabric and this place is great!!…read more They have lots of sample books you can look through and a lot of clearance fabrics. I was working on a vintage bag and one of the designers helped me pick the perfect fabric for it. Everyone was really helpful and I will definitely be going back.

I got the chance to visit Mayer Fabrics during their annual "Zero Landfill" event and all I can say…read moreis WOW. Despite being held in their back warehouse, everything was clean and organized, and the staff were very helpful in getting my things weighed and loaded in to my vehicle. The "Zero Landfill" event is designed to put materials donated by local area designers, dealerships, businesses, and sales reps in to the hands of crafters, collectors, artists, etc. to upcycle and/or repurpose discontinued or unused samples of various mediums. Offerings included things such as flooring, framing materials, tiles, and all kinds of fabric - all free. At the end, they weigh your haul and tell you how many pounds of materials you saved from the landfill. I am very pleased with my 120 pounds of velvet squares, curtain panels, carpet squares, and various other goodies that I was able to score. Being a curator of textiles, this event was right up my alley. To hear that almost 12,000 pounds of materials were saved from the landfill just at this event was awesome. I cannot wait to make upcycled pillow covers, table cloths, and who knows what else with my new-to-me beauties!

I came into the shop looking for Fray Check, which they didn't have. For probably the best reason…read morethat if you properly sew your clothes, you don't need to worry about fray. One of the clerks looked it up for me at Walmart, even gave me the aisle number. All of this was wonderful, but the real reason for the review would be their lovely fabrics. I am the least skilled seamstress that ever existed. I gave up sewing long ago. If someone would have put effort into selling me something, I'd be the fool who'd buy something beautiful to turn it into a three car collision. The most beautiful fabrics.

I am a sucker for a locally owned / specialty type quilt shop and have been meaning to get in to…read morethe French Seam for a while - but they were never open when I tried! I totally understand that Covid has forced us a lot of businesses to adjust their hours and the way they run - and the French Seam was no exception. Luckily, I had a day off work recently and was able to get in on a weekday during their limited business hours. Let me just say this - they have some gorgeous fabrics. Quilting cottons are separated from the garment fabrics in the small front area and they have a few notions available. I love being able to look through pre-cuts and they had a good selection of fat quarters organized by color in rolling carts available for purchase. I was also told that there was a 'clearance' area in the back/warehouse type area - so I made a break for it (you had me at clearance!). Back there I was able to score a package of fat quarters for $3 (I was told it was because they were 'old' fabrics - but who cares?) and some other pre-cut yardage at a discount. SCORE! Back in the open 'warehouse' type area also appears to be where machines are located and perhaps where classes would be held (pre/post Covid). Of note, I think I may have thrown off the older, more conservative appearing lady working in the store with my appearance when I walked in, but the younger gal working the counter was very sweet. Overall, I was excited for my new-to-me fabrics to add to my stash and glad I got to check the place out as it is SUPER close to where I live.

OhMyGarsh how have I NOT reviewed my happy place yet? Let's remedy that!…read more Full disclosure, I taught myself to quilt at the start of the pandemic and having a degree in memory piece quilting from YouTubeUniversity is where I got my humble start. I then branched out and dipped my toe in to the vast quilting world and quickly discovered my love of bright colors, modern fabrics, fun patterns, quilt kits, and notions...and Crimson Tate has ALL of these things - and MORE! To say it is like my own personal Disney World would be an understatement - and if you get to see the Crimson Tate mascot (Heather herself) during your visit, your dreams DO indeed come true! Granted, the rest of the staff at Crimson Tate is ALSO amazing and lovely and a perfect kind of special so you are in for a treat regardless. But back to my review. Some may say the space is small - I say it is perfectly cozy with SO much goodness packed in to every corner. Pre-curated bundles and kits to take the guess work out? You betcha! Yardage on bolts? GOT 'EM! Fat Quarters in suitcases? CUTE! Scraps in bags tucked away in the corner armoire? YES! Needlepoint? THAT TOO! Tula, Charley Harper, Anna Maria, Ruby Star, Kaffe, even up-and-coming cool designers - allll the good stuff can be found here. Can't find what you need? Ask the staff! They are more than happy to help and they have given me amazing suggestions on several occasions. They even put up with me when I need a random CT hit and go in to just browse. Located on Mass Ave just across from Bottleworks / The Garage - you can find street parking out front or in the parking garage catty-corner from Crimson Tate. Go visit! Tell them I sent ya!

She helped to alter my wedding dress to fit me well, shorten the straps, and hem the bottom. My dream was to add sleeves to my dress, which she did beautifully with ribbons. Erin was great to work with and my gown fit like a glove the day of my wedding!…read more I was recommended to Erin by my now mother-in-law. Her daughter had her wedding gown altered by Erin. This must have been no easy task because her gown was allll beads and applique. So gorgeous! Erin has an eye for detail and allows for weight fluctuations in between fittings. My gown needed taken in at the bust and length shortened. In addition to everything fitting very nicely, she also fastened my rhinestone belt to my gown so it wouldn't move around but could also be removed after the wedding. Erin also takes the time to make sure you and the person helping you with your dress know exactly how the dress is secured. She even gave us some great pointers on how to make a perfect bow and how to use a crochet hook for quickly hooking buttons (of which there were tons on my dress). My wedding was on a Sunday when Erin's shop is closed, but Erin was nice enough to make herself available in order for my wedding coordinator to pick up my dress. As part of the cost of alterations, my dress and veil were steamed. They looked pristine the day of the wedding. Compared to other alterations shops in Indianapolis I would say Erin is on the more expensive side, but when you are in the shop for a fitting it is only you. No other brides sizing up you and judging your dress. No one rushing you in and out. It is calm and quiet, which to me is priceless. A great experience with Erin. Highly recommend.
