He had more damn lights on that thing, burning all night long, than a car dealership. Not to mention, they borrowed the moon tower from the Dazed and Confused set which stayed on all night as well. Needless to say, not ideal if your intent was watching the meteor shower. For an added bonus, the maintenance guys moved a picnic table against our RV door and left it there, trapping us inside! If you just need a place to park overnight and plan on staying there, be sure to pack some bug spray. There was a higher concentration of mosquitoes than I've ever encountered anywhere else in all of my travels. They were large too. If you were so inclined you could probably saddle them for an aerial view of the property.

After trying to communicate the wrong doings of the park it was obvious that the woman that runs the office reservation desk was more than enthusiastic to just be down right rude and nasty. After making reservations a full year and advance, the park decided to change all of the rules and the cost! Do not give these people a credit card! Our stay went from being a 4 night stay to a required 7 night stay and the charge of a "golf' package without authorization! The only thing this woman would do to attempt to accommodate us was to offer that we pack up our entire set up and move to another spot for a night. Even though nobody would be using the spot that we were in, in which we reserved a year ago! End result, we packed up and left a day early. She actually had the nerve, when I was alone to tell me that I could scream, holler and throw myself on the ground and it would not change anything, she was bound and determined to screw us because we spoke up in front of others in our large group! She would not give us the name of the manager or the owners and said we would not be able to contact them. Look at the other "Yelp" reviews and take them to heart! She will make your stay miserable if she can! What a true loss for this park. I hope they get a clue at some point! Another customer lost! Here are a couple insights from other guests: "However the ladies running the inside portion are beyond RUDE. One particular gal older long dark hair was condescending to 6 of us 50 something year old grown ass adults. Everyday she had to prove her nastiness." "Our families have been coming to Likely for many years. This past weekend to Likely was the most unpleasant, unprofessional and rude camp hosts our families have ever encountered." "Screwed up our groups reservation (5 trailers, two nights). They said 2 trailers, two nights. Despite making reservations 6 months earlier and taking nearly $500. Ended up in a dirt lot with gravel. They tried making us feel like it was our fault and offered zero for our discomfort. Overall staff was a bit rude and the "maintenance guy" raced around in a golf cart kicking up dust and rock. It was the last stop of 5 on ourv2.5 week trip and the only campgrounds that failed." "although the scenery is beautiful, if you are going to play golf or interact with the staff , they are snarky and unfriendly," Just a few to think about! Still waiting for our $40.00 golf package refund! If you are an actual owner or management please contact at me shelliesplace@gmail.com

We've spent a lot of time in the western deserts but never up here in northern Nevada. With our 4WD vehicle, we were prepared for iffy roads but surprisingly, the road all the way out to Soldier Meadow was well graded. Not challenging at all. That said, I could see how it would be after any significant amount of rain. Plenty of potential mud spots. As it turned out, we didn't make it to the canyon due to fuel concerns but the road to Soldier Meadow was worth the drive. Next time, we'll carry an extra gas can. There's a gas station in Gerlach but it wasn't open when we drove through in the morning.

The town of Gerlach has 3 bars & the Black Rock Desert Visitor Center. There's Gerlach Water Tower Park with just a water tower & maybe a bench or table, can't remember, plus a map/brochures to pick up. Black Rock Desert Visitor Center - you can ask about the desert, some stuff for sale like sunscreen, water bottles, books, posters. There's a unisex bathroom we used - last flushed toilet for a while! We checked out Guru Rd - it's a neat dirt road with lots of folk art along the way. Pretty cool Elvis Memorial, & sayings on rocks. We turned off 12 mile access to head into the Playa. Desert is just that, sand, dirt, dried mud. Pretty neat to be able to camp in the desert with nothing around. Since it's on BLM land it's FREE to camp there. I'm not sure how they use the bathroom regular if you camp, but they brought in 8 pit toilets for us to use. Everyone was asked to bring 1 gallon of water per person/day. There's no drinking water in the desert. Got there after about 7hrs with lots of stops. Sat we just set up our tents & had a potluck dinner Dutch Over Cookoff & stuff we brought with the Friends of Black Rock. Watched some singers & kids playing with sparklers. Quiet camp is 10pm. We heard fireworks going off, not sure what time that was. Sun they had tours 8:30-2:30pm, but we could only pick one tour. I wanted them all! So we picked Solider Meadows-it's 1hr ea way to get there, several neat hot springs slightly off the trail. We saw some wild horses cross in front of the truck we were in - that was neat. After the tour we looked & found Double Hot Springs on our own. It's way neat!! One hot spring was 175 degree, the other was 180 degrees. No touching it or going in!! Too damn hot! Dinner was make your own tacos - they had drilled the meats, some cheese quesadillas, etc. Mon - some quick breakfast: muffins, oranges, bagels/cream cheese. Everyone started packing out. Leave No Trace!! Everything packed in, must be packed out. Maybe we'll go back for Hot Springs Tour & Fly Geyser!

If you're driving through Northern California and skip Burney Falls, you'll regret it -- read this…read morebefore you pass it. Some places stop you in your tracks. Burney Falls is one of them. We pulled in on a cloudy afternoon, paid the $10 day-use fee (heads up -- America the Beautiful Pass is not accepted here), and honestly, I wasn't fully prepared for what was waiting at the end of that short walk. It's maybe 10 steps down to the base of the falls -- gentle enough that we attempted it with a stroller. Is it stroller-friendly? Almost. I'd say stroller-possible if you're determined, but bring your patience and your arms. The clouds kept rolling in, softening the light over the forest, and I remember standing there thinking -- even like this, even on a grey day, this place is extraordinary. The waterfall doesn't roar at you. It cascades, wide and ancient and constant, like it's been doing this forever and doesn't need your approval. Water pours from every direction -- from the rocks, from the moss, from the walls -- and the sound wraps around you completely. I added photos, but they don't capture it. Nothing will. The trees surrounding the falls are cathedral-tall, the air smells like cold water and pine, and for a few minutes the whole world got quiet. On a clear sunny day? I think I would have cried. Even on a cloudy one -- I almost did. Go. Just go.

I actually received a $1 back as in a senior. I dislike that dog access is limited to parking lot, and observation area. Not allowed on stairs leading down to base of falls, on trails, posted properly. I understand people don't clean up after their pets plus you never know how dogs will interact. Their park, their rules. I love the rule that doesn't allow you to leave your dog(s) in the car, kudos. I think these dog rules apply to all California State Parks. Beautiful falls, great fall weather, friendly rangers.
