I am writing as the caregiver and power of attorney for my elderly, disabled nana, who rented an…read moreapartment managed by Welcome Home Properties. I do not live in the unit and signed the lease only to help her qualify. Welcome Home Properties told us a co-signer and double deposit would be required if my nana did not meet screening criteria, so I agreed to co-sign to help her secure housing. They charged her over $400 in fees before she moved in. They knew I would not be living there and would be checking on my 85-year-old nana daily as her caregiver. Four weeks after move in, her doctor and Adult Protective Services determined she could no longer safely live alone and had to move to assisted living. When I called to explain, staff quoted an early-termination structure of a $500 re-listing fee, $500 for half a month's rent, and then $500 per month until re-rented. APS later verified that my nana could not live alone. When I requested early termination and release from liability as a disability-related accommodation, my emails were ignored. Instead, the portal showed about $10,250 in remaining rent. The lease was also changed so my nana's signature was removed while mine remained, even though I never signed an amendment. My nana has since been diagnosed with a devastating medical condition and her days are numbered. This company treated the situation like a billing opportunity instead of a serious medical and housing issue. They handled the lease in a way that left a non-occupant caregiver "holding the bag" for the remaining term after APS and doctors said my nana had to leave. I am disputing the debt and filed complaints with multiple agencies because I believe their conduct is unfair, dishonest, and harmful to an elderly disabled tenant and her caregiver.

The apartments are dark and gloomy and they smell very musty. The absolute worst part of the apartments are the managers. Sure they take great care of the grass and the pool, but as for taking care of the tenants I would give them a zero or negative rating if possible. I lived there for three miserable years. I have experienced in the last three years the managers very sensitive to voices and music. For example it was the middle of the summer about 2 pm and there were children playing in the pool having a great time. Within minutes the manager yells at the children to be quite as people are "sleeping". I didn't think they were a problem, but apparently quiet time is 24/7 to the managers. The managers are very rude, cheap, and selfish. Recently there was a situation that occurred in my apartment that involved a neighboring tenant. What happened in this situation really makes me feel like it is a very unsafe place to live. The way the manager handled the situation was so disgustingly unprofessional. They defended the tenant that was in the wrong and basically accused my sister and I of lying. Needless to say after changing the locks on the doors and placing a chair under the door at nights, I still felt unsafe and afraid. As a result of how the managers handled the situation and treated us, along with feeling very unsafe we decided to move. I STRONGLY recommend NOT living here. Go for the more expensive places because you would be paying for a little more safety.

I've had issues with small jobs not being complete in a satisfactory way. However, this company always follows up with calls and has been very responsive with the issues. I've been an absentee landlord for over eight years. I felt this company was positioned to be the best because it is the largest in Walla Walla. I felt like my property wasn't being carefully looked after by Windermere in the past and attempted to work with a smaller company that could be more hands-on while providing services at a more affordable price. That turned out to be a bad decision after a couple of years. If you are trying to manage a house from another state, I believe Windermere will be the better choice in the long run.

Won't tell you they DO require a certain credit score for EVERY resident and won't even let you see ANY property before paying this fee. There should be laws against this. They have the majority of properties under their control. As owners, let's stop giving them business! If you want to be viewed as honest, you must be transparent. And because I said I will be reporting g them to the BBB I am now being refused service. As a disabled veteran searching for housing how can this be legal?
