I have to say I am really pleased we did stop there. The hospitality was amazing. "Sit down and make yourself at home". There was a cabinet full of cream scones and I think by the time we had all sat down there cabinet was bare. Tea was brought to us whilst we took advantage of the wonderful food on offer. Not only that there were free fill ups if required. I have to say I have never been to a nicer place for a cup of tea and a cream scone. It was excellent value and if I go that way again I will definitely call in. I am going to tell all my friends about this lovely place in case they choose to venture over the border. We arrived on a quiet afternoon, where the town seemed absolutely dead and we were the only people dining. The decor is absolutely adorable with giant tables, fairy-lights and hand-written signage. It very much seems like a labor-of-love for whomever owns it. We were shocked at the low prices. This was probably our least expensive meal on our whole trip, including fast food stops. We didn't order the afternoon tea (served on a cake stand) but I was stunned that it was less than five pounds. In London, we spent 40 pounds for a similar experience and that was on the low end of afternoon tea pricing. I ate a 1/2 BTL and a bowl of cream of potato and leek soup. My husband had a ham, mozzarella and pineapple panini. We loved out meals! We topped them off with a brownie and a tropical fruit dessert bar. The bakery has a very extensive selection and everything looked great. Besides the atmosphere and food being outstanding, we had a wonderful server. We are so happy that we stopped at Poppy's!
