Decent pies, some interesting flavor options. Breakfast egg and bacon would not recommend but creamy chicken bacon was solid. Open early so you can grab something before heading up to Milford Sound.

While in Te Anau, it's hard to miss the long line to Miles Better Pies! Located on the main street, it offers a variety of fresh mince pies, pastries, and caffeine options. I ordered the vegetarian lentil curry mince pie, which was the only savory vegetarian option (the other vegetarian options are the fruit mince pies). The curry was flavorful and the pie had a decent amount of filling. I would've ordered 2 if I knew how delicious they were! I also ordered a hot chai latte, which wasn't too sweet (how I like it). If you do like your drinks on the sweeter side, you can add syrups for a $1 upcharge. For my lactose intolerant people - the default is dairy milk, and there is also a $1 upcharge for non-dairy options as well.

Whenever I travel to NZ, I binge on meat pies - which are just not a thing in the US, sadly. This place had lots of choices, including a fruit pie. I had the venison which was tender and flavorful and not at all gamey. Counter service for pies was really fast, especially for lunch time. Everything is bagged to take away, but there's a little space to eat there. A couple bar seats in front, and a (really) cramped set of tables in the back. Sandwiches are made to order, and we got our 4-year-old a toasted cheese sandwich, though ham and other choices are also available. It took a few minutes to come out, but it was worth waiting for. Gooey melty cheesy heaven squashed between golden flattened bread slices. No restroom, so wash your hands before you come. Also cash only, no cards.

The venison pie is really sad. While there is lots of it, it's just not flavorful. And so it is really gamey. I did like the satay chicken otherwise....

Satay chicken was amazing and our favorite hands down. The lamb was tender but could not taste the mint. The apple and blueberries needed more berries to round everything out. All the crusts were perfectly cooked. We did get a pie from the Lakefront Cafe the day before and found Miles to be better. Great as a takeaway heading to and from Milford Sound.

These are the best pies in New Zealand and perhaps the world but I must admit that I have only had pies in Aus, the UK and NZ. Great real fresh ingredients. Try the venison pie, they use local organic venison which is very tender.

They use vegetable oil in their pies!!! No butter! (There's a milk wash at the top). This is important since I can't eat dairy. The husband ate the milky tops and I ate the rest. Highly recommend the sausage roll and steak pies. Venison was decent but not as filling as steak. Yum yum yum!

I don't have a lot of "pie" experience since I have only tried pies since visiting NZ. I thought the pastry on the Miles version I tried was a little heavy in texture. It was very filling but the meat tasted kind of cheap and didn't leave me feeling very good. I liked they were open early so we could get pies on our way to Milford Sound early in the morning (6am). They had a good variety of pies to choose from as well.

Our bus driver recommended this place. My steak pie was great and my wife loved her vegetarian pie.

Varied menu. Prices a little high. Service is okay at best. No acknowledgement by server. Eventually server arrived to take our coffee/juice orders. We ordered the entrees at the same time, just in case. Eggs Benny was a hit, Cilbir Eggs, basically poached eggs on ciabatta, was thoroughly enjoyed. Breakfast Butty was just okay. Overall, Just an okay experience. Be advised of limited parking. Directions are sketchy, but patrons have to park in a pay parking lot, then have their parking validated by the server/hostess.

Man, I may be in the minority here, but I thought this spot was so overhyped…read more The decor of the store - or Cookie Bar I should say - caught our eyes our first day in Queenstown. It's got bright colors, cartoon-y Cookie mascot, and merch everywhere. Cookie Time is a NZ brand icon, which is awesome! I loooove that they have gluten free options, and we found those in gas stations and convenience stores throughout NZ. However, our actual visit to the Cookie Bar was lackluster at best. The line was crazy long, the wait for cookies was long, and there were a few things that broke the magic: like there being "milk taps" but they're just for show - the milk is prepackaged. And you can see the rough-looking cookie warmer behind the station of unenthusiastic workers. The cookies and milk were good, but didn't blow our minds - maybe that's because we're used to fresh warm cookies like Sweet Martha's in Minnesota. There's very little seating inside so you have to take it to go or jockey for a barstool while everyone waits inside for their order to be ready. The brand and packaged items are great, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this to a friend heading to Queenstown.
