The Atlantic Fish Bar is probably the best fish and chip shop in Tamworth, or around for some…read moremiles. Their batter is light and crispy, and much better than other chippies I've tasted. They are only open until 2pm for lunch, and then again at 6pm for dinner, so make sure you don't leave your lunch chip run too late. The staff are really funny here -- really friendly, joking about with each other, and making the customers feel really welcome. They aren't the most efficient fish and chippers around. There is an understanding amongst Atlantis' customers that it may take longer to get served here than other shops, due to the silly banter and general camraderie. The queue is always quite long, especially on a Friday night, like most similar shops. From the size of the queue, it's easy to guess how popular this place is. The haddock and cod are really lovely, the chips are nice and fresh, and the chicken kebabs are to die for, if dying for a kebab is your sort of thing. I personally don't care for the Friday night fish n chip run, but being married to an Englishman, I make my sacrifices, with the caveat that if we get fish and chips, it's from Atlantic.

Scraping together our remaining change (cash points aren't in ready supply) my husband and I were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices and meal deals on offer. We opted for Mini Fish and Chips for £3.25 each, only to be told that lunchtime was over and we couldn't have the deal. Just be careful on Saturdays then, as the posters up around the shop don't make this clear. The staff were apologetic and directed us to the other offers that were available. So, we opted for a couple of trays of Sausage, Chips and Curry sauce for just £2.75 apiece. There was more to this than met the eye though. We were given a choice between ordinary and battered sausages, as well as Chip Shop Curry Sauce and their spicier Chinese Curry Sauce (I went for this and it was indeed spicier than the normal curry sauce). This, and the availability of those complimentary wooden forks, rescued us from disappointment as did the quality of the grub. We chose to take away, but there are plenty of chairs and tables indoors for those customers who want to eat in. I'd happily go back next time I'm in town.
