Both medical and dental said they would cover and we haven't had issues in the past with either insurance. We called them ahead of time. We also paid at time of surgery and both insurances paid. Somehow office messed up the billing. Not only did we lose few hundred, we lost so much time between several phone calls over several months with their office and both medical and dental insurance. Each time they say something different. Office is disorganized. We scheduled a post op followup as they instructed. They had no records of the appt though we had an appt card confirming. Luckily the surgeon was available that day. Scheduling the surgery was not easy either with them. Our family has been through medical and dental procedures, hospitalizations, and braces. This was the most aggravating experience. Will not use them in the future. Also check out similar reviews with their Chicago office.

Halkias talked to me for an hour with the 3D X-Ray, using big words that he knew I wouldn't follow to try to confuse me into thinking he's an elite provider. After an outrageous consultant fee, a scam-esque 3D XRay maneuver, and a business model that purposely squeezes North Shore patients out with exclusive out-of-network procedure options, I can firmly say this is one of the scummiest businessmen in the area. He spent two hours with me feeding his own maniacal ego, and a few months later, I just had my teeth done by John Brunetti who didn't put me through a quarter of the BS that Halkias did. Don't let Halkias scare and scam you. Find some place with less "pizzaz" that is in network. ***clarifying edit***: Just to be clear, they did not offer me the option to NOT use the 3D XRay. They saw my normal imaging from my dentist, saw that they might need more imaging, then told me "The doctor is ordering a 3D Xray. It should be covered by insurance. We'll take you in now." No question. No concern. No pause. Just fully kept me rushing (probably) knowing full well they would be getting $500 out of pocket for me. Can't emphasize enough how scummy that was.

Across three procedures from 2021 to 2025, after reviewing the history of my account, I was quoted a lower price each time and then billed more after the procedures were done. They blamed the insurance and the app they use to estimate, but the fact is they don't do pre-authorization for their quotes. For my recent procedure in 2025, they failed to disclose a prior denial for the same code and same tooth from 2021, yet still gave me a quote that was wrong and later told me the insurance "unexpectedly declined" the same code. They also pre-charged me before insurance finished processing, without my consent, which broke their own policy and added confusion to the bill. This left me questioning whether they already anticipated there would be a remaining balance - otherwise, the pre-charge and refund back doesn't make any sense. When I reviewed the documents they sent me, I also found another patient's EOB in my file. Overall, this office shows a pattern of low quoting followed by higher bills, lacks transparency in billing, and fails to safeguard patient privacy. If this is their standard practice, I can only imagine how many patients may have ended up with the same experience I had.

I called to schedule a 6 month cleaning with Aspen Dental and they informed me that I would need to have a consultation before I could schedule my cleaning, but they offer the cleaning service and hopefully I could do it in the same visit. When I arrived and went through the consultation the staff were very accommodating. At the end of the consultation they said I would need a deep cleaning and they would put me on a schedule to come in periodically for additional follow-up. I informed them that I would like to think about doing it next time, but just wanted to do my 6 month normal cleaning now, as it is covered by my insurance and financially I would prefer to hold off until my next visit. When I suggested that, they refused to let me get my cleaning because it wasn't part of their "plan". I left the office without making any commitment. I tried calling to schedule it later and once again I was denied. They were not willing to work with me. Additionally, I was told by 2 people on the phone when making my appointment that my insurance would fully cover the consultation, so when I eventually received my bill a few days ago, I wasn't happy that they took more imaging than my insurance allowed and had an outstanding balance of $24.00. I know it is not a lot of money, but the fact that I was lied to about being able to get my 6 month cleaning and that my visit would be fully covered by insurance was unacceptable to me. I paid my balance without arguing, because I don't want to deal with Aspen Dental anymore.
