I had previously left a review after my first visit because the food was very greasy and the customer service was lacking. The owner/team reached out to me afterward and offered a $25 gift card to give them another chance, which I appreciated and was nice that they do take theyre reviews serious and do put in the effort to satisfy their costumers. I went back recently and there was definitely a big difference compared to my first visit. It wasn't nearly as busy, and the customer service was much better. Everyone was friendly, my order was correct, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. This time I decided to try something different and ordered the Crunchwrap with a consommé on the side and the loaded churros. The Crunchwrap was actually really good -- came with pickled onions radishes and lime which when i ordered tacos it didnt. not greasy at all and way better than the tacos I had the first time. The consommé came with diced onions and cilantro with lime. could use a little more flavor because it didn't really taste like traditional consommé, but it still paired well with the Crunchwrap and I enjoyed it overall. The loaded churros were also good, and the portion size was generous. They weren't greasy either strawberries were fresh and everything combined great. Overall, I definitely noticed an improvement and I'm glad I gave them another chance. I do think there's a noticeable difference when they're very busy versus slower times, this visit was a much better experience. read more

Would have appreciated if their food came out faster. This spot definitely feels geared towards non-hispanic populations, and jumped on the Birria Hype (understandably) with heavy marketing. Birria Tacos (7/10) - Crispy exterior, mostly juicy meat, cheesy interior - Good tacos! Really enjoyed it, although only complaint is that the meat could have been a little more tender. There were some bites without the consume that felt like the birria had been cooked for a little long, and was getting a little stringy/tough when you over-braise meats - Taco shells also felt a tad overcooked, and instead of a nice crunch, they were a little hard Consume (7/10) - Perfect for dipping birria tacos! Their consume packed salty and spicy flavors. - It's quite salty, so definitely used only as a dipping sauce. Took 1 sip with a spoon, and it was way too salty. Maybe would be nice if this were more drinkable as a soup as well. Overall, this spot is good, but I don't think it's worth all the hype it's getting in the reviews. Well, the reviews are right, this place is really damn good. My first visit today and lucky me, it's Taco Tuesday! We got the Mike's meal special, which is too Birria tacos with cheese, consommé, and a side of chips. The mail is $15 but the bonus is that you get an additional Birria taco. My man and I added on an additional vegetarian taco and it was enough food for both of us to split and be very happy. It was a tough pic for me, but I actually preferred the veggie taco just a little bit more and my man preferred the Birria, but both were definitely slamming. The consommé was out of this world and it's a big enough serving that comes with the Mike's meal that you could honestly split it with four people. It was way more than enough for both of us. This is a fast casual restaurant. It was exceptionally clean. These places do have a little bit of a sterile type of environment, but we were in out and on with our lives in about 45 minutes and the place was very busy. Would absolutely return. read more

Decided to visit this birria taco spot while in Pt Loma. They have a large following and great customer base. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a cashier named Axel. He smiled and we needed a few minutes to review the menu. Once we knew what we wanted we ordered with him. They have a soda fountain as well as a Bang fountain with Mexican Aguas Frescas: Tamarindo, Jamaica, and my favorite Horchata. The flavors are great and the horchata is creamy and good. We ordered: 1 Mike's Special - 2 red (birria) tacos, tortilla chips, a large side of guacamole, a bowl of consume, and a drink ($15), 2 a la carte carne asada tacos, 1 California Burrito with Birria meat, and 2 fountain drinks and a water cup. The place is very lively and is decorated well to match the hype vibe. There are about 8-10 tables available for about 50-55 people to sit inside. There are several awards / honorable mentions on the wall to highlight how well this brand has grown, impressive. Our food was ready at the pickup counter in about 6mins and it was VERY WELL PREPARED. The woman that I picked it up from has a smile on her face as well. This made me happy about eating here. The space was clean and modern. One of the stand outs for me was the salsa bar. A great selection with good chunky salsas. Nice spicy kick with great flavors. Came to visit for a conference in Mission Valley and saw this highly rated taco spot a 10 min Lyft ride away. Situated in a small strip mall, nothing else seemed open. Orders can be placed at the kiosk but beer must be ordered at the counter. The inside is bright and colorful and welcoming with a trendy vibe. 5/5 Chips & guac the chips had some cheesy seasonings on it - sprinkles of red, kind of Dorito-like. SO GOOD! The guac too. Straight off the airplane late at night and this place was #1 on the Yelp! list. Of course I went to check it out. Mike's Red Tacos is located in a strip mall near SAN airport. There's plenty of parking. We got there around 10pm and it was busy!! The restaurant is clean, the staff are friendly. As you walk in, there are two self serve ordering monitors. While you wait for your food, you can pack up your salsa from their salsa bar. We ordered the CA Burrito with beef birria, Beef birria quesadilla, Breakfast burrito and Mike's Special Deal. Everything was delicious and we could not finish our food because the servings are large enough for 2-3 people IMO. Next time we plan to order only two menu items to share. We'll be back! read more

I was so excited to try Mike's Red Tacos and it is close to a 5 star experience but unfortunately the wait and food sitting out makes it a 4 star experience. I came on a Sunday around 1:15 pm. I was hopeful that the lunch rush would be over, but it was really busy. As soon as I walked in, I saw that there were screens where you could order on so we did that. It took about 30 minutes for my husband and I to get our loaded fries and California burrito. Unfortunately, our fries had been sitting out for a while so they were a bit cold when we got them but let me tell you what... they were still really good. They were crispy fries with tasty toppings and I LOVE their salsa bar! Every salsa I tried (and I tried most of them) was REALLY good. The California burrito was also good, but I wish there was more meat in it. The fries despite being a half order had a lot of meat and was completely worth it for the price. My husband and I tried the Jamaica ole drink and it was a bit watery and not very flavorful in my opinion. The place was really clean throughout and there was lots of seating inside as well as outside. I really wish the fries weren't sitting out or that it didn't take too long to get our food. The staff seemed a bit disorganized and a bit frazzled with how busy it was. I felt like I could constantly see like 10 orders flashing on the screen. Since last year, I have really enjoyed Birria dishes, so I was really excited to try Mike's while visiting San Diego. We got the tacos, ramen, and loaded fries. General impressions: too much meat? For all these dishes, we had to "dig out" around 25% to 50% of the meat to make it feel the right ratio. Not a terrible (and definitely uncommon) problem. I guess if you had a bag of chips or something... birria dip! 1. Tacos were pretty good. Wish there were more options for other ingredients to add for... ALL THAT MEAT! 2. Loaded fries were great (again, just too much meat) 3. Sadly, the ramen was barely edible. Even eating the noodles right away, they were over cooked, too soft, and definitely too much meat in proportion to everything else in the bowl. Like 50%+ TOO MUCH MEAT! Birria Tacos!  If you love Birria tacos, then then this is the place for you! Pretty sure that we've been to another one of their locations but just found out that this was in Point Loma. Quality of the food here is great and is consistent to what we had tried at their other location.  Went during the lunch hour and it was crowded! No real surprise there as these tacos are the real deal!  We ended up getting the number 2 combo- 2 birria tacos, consome and chips!  This was perfect for lunch!  Probably could have at more but good luck being productive after that!  The two tacos and chips was enough to satisfy our lunch craving.  The salsa bar was pretty good too and there was a salsa there that was nice and spicy! Of course there are mild options if you want something without the kick. This place got pretty busy during the working lunch hour but the food came out quick and we were still able to find a table. The day finally arrived and my Son treated me and my Grandson to lunch. I gotta tell you it was love at first bite. I tired the quesadilla and of course the tacos. Ordered Mike's Red Tacos through DoorDash the last time I was down in the San Diego area. The food was so good delivered that I can't imagine how much better it'd be fresh in-restaurant. Their veggie taco was a winner, featuring Portobello mushrooms, potatoes, beans, bell peppers, poblano peppers, guacamole, cheese, cilantro, and onions. It's fantastic they provide a complete vegetarian option instead of just a cheese and bean taco. We did also order their bean, rice, and cheese burrito which weighed about a pound! How could we not order a "Mike's Meal" which consisted of 2 birria tacos with a side of chips. These were so delicious I wish I ordered an extra one! Since it was our first time here we also tried a side of their rice, beans, chips and guacamole, chips and queso, and some extra sour cream. Both the guacamole and queso were on delicious.
