This place is DELICIOUS. They serve quality Birria here that doesn't disappoint. They have ONE OF THE BEST BURRITOS I've EVER tried. Food -Cali Burrito: This is easily a top tier burrito. The combination of Birria, guacamole, those crispy DELICIOUS well seasoned crunchy fires and the rest of the toppings make it an explosion of flavor with every bite!!! (5/5) -Salsa Bar is quality. The salsas taste fresh and complement the food. Service -No issues here. They are helpful and friendly Atmosphere -Clean and modern interior design. Cool theme. Only down side is that they only have one restroom that us one person at a time This place is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If you're into burritos their Cali burrito is a must!

I had previously left a review after my first visit because the food was very greasy and the customer service was lacking. The owner/team reached out to me afterward and offered a $25 gift card to give them another chance, which I appreciated and was nice that they do take theyre reviews serious and do put in the effort to satisfy their costumers. I went back recently and there was definitely a big difference compared to my first visit. It wasn't nearly as busy, and the customer service was much better. Everyone was friendly, my order was correct, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. This time I decided to try something different and ordered the Crunchwrap with a consommé on the side and the loaded churros. The Crunchwrap was actually really good -- came with pickled onions radishes and lime which when i ordered tacos it didnt. not greasy at all and way better than the tacos I had the first time. The consommé came with diced onions and cilantro with lime. could use a little more flavor because it didn't really taste like traditional consommé, but it still paired well with the Crunchwrap and I enjoyed it overall. The loaded churros were also good, and the portion size was generous. They weren't greasy either strawberries were fresh and everything combined great. Overall, I definitely noticed an improvement and I'm glad I gave them another chance. I do think there's a noticeable difference when they're very busy versus slower times, this visit was a much better experience.

Mike's Meal

I had never heard of MIke's Red Tacos until my recent trip to San Diego and I left telling everyone about it. We shared the Mike's Meal and the loaded fries. The MIke's Meal is the best bang for your buck, in my opinion. Especially when paired with a side of rice and beans, you're eating happy. The Loaded Fries are for sure the most memorable thing we ate. Paired with a variety of salsas from their salsa bar? Game over. It's easy to see why this place is so popular. The bold flavors and quality food really make a lasting impression. If you haven't already, I highly recommend you give Mike's Red Tacos a try.

MIKES RED TACOS @ ROSECRANS ST The tacos were a decent size and were yummy; however, the chips and queso weren't good at all since it wasn't warm and was way too thick. The food came out fast and the service was good though! Overall 3/5

We came here for taco Tuesday and the deal they offered was great! If you buy a meal you get a free taco. Their tacos are huge and super flavorful. We were iffy about the prices but when we saw and ate our meals it was well worth it. It was busy when we went but we were able to get a table inside. They have outdoor seating as well. Note: if you are looking to support a Mexican owned taco restaurant, I looked up who started and owns Mike's tacos and it is not a Mexican owned restaurant. Just something to think about!

Birria Tacos (7/10)

3/9/26 Came on a Monday night, and they had a moderate amount of people! They have 2 self-order kiosks which helps with efficiency, and you're also able to order at the front with the worker. Food took a bit long to come out (~20 min), which to me felt a little too long considering they weren't crazy busy, and items were pushed out relatively slowly. Would have appreciated if their food came out faster. This spot definitely feels geared towards non-hispanic populations, and jumped on the Birria Hype (understandably) with heavy marketing. Birria Tacos (7/10) - Crispy exterior, mostly juicy meat, cheesy interior - Good tacos! Really enjoyed it, although only complaint is that the meat could have been a little more tender. There were some bites without the consume that felt like the birria had been cooked for a little long, and was getting a little stringy/tough when you over-braise meats - Taco shells also felt a tad overcooked, and instead of a nice crunch, they were a little hard Consume (7/10) - Perfect for dipping birria tacos! Their consume packed salty and spicy flavors. - It's quite salty, so definitely used only as a dipping sauce. Took 1 sip with a spoon, and it was way too salty. Maybe would be nice if this were more drinkable as a soup as well. Overall, this spot is good, but I don't think it's worth all the hype it's getting in the reviews. The birria tacos are good, but probably not the best you can find in SD. Meat is good (could be softer), but shells felt a little tough. I feel like Mike's Red Tacos jumped on the Birria Bandwagon, and heavily marketed themselves a more Americanized-version of the Birria. It's good, but idk how "authentic" it is.

The Baseline: For a Mexican restaurant the flavors of the food must make use of the prime Mexican ingredients (corn, beans, chiles, rice, cheese, and meats), preparation of sauces/salsas, the meal portion size must make me feel full, and feeling of the restaurant must give me the feeling of a Mexican restaurant. Food: Had Mike's Meal to get two delicious Birria Tacos and some solid chips and consome (5 out of 5). Tried the loaded fries which were all-right because they tasted like bag fries that had better ingredients loaded on top of them, probably should have went for the loaded nachos (3 out of 5). Also we had a cheese quesadilla (4 out of 5), which had a good melt and crisp to the tortilla. Service: Great service from the staff from ordering to delivering food. Ambiance: Good lunch spot vibes to the restaurant but still nice to have a quick dinner at. Good salsa bar that was well maintained. Clean tables with unkept seats. Clean Bathrooms with easy access.

Veggie Taco

My fiancée and I visited on a Taco Tuesday and were impressed by how spotless the indoor dining area was. They have great seating options and a fantastic salsa bar. Following a suggestion from another customer, I tried the Mike's and the jalapeño salsas, and both were delicious highlights of the visit. We went with the Taco Tuesday special, which includes two birria tacos, chips, and a free extra taco, plus we added a veggie taco. The birria was good and I appreciated that it wasn't overly greasy or heavy on the cheese, though I would have loved a bit more meat to balance out the tortilla. The veggie taco was also a nice option even if it wasn't my personal favorite. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our visit, making for a pleasant overall experience.

Well, the reviews are right, this place is really damn good. My first visit today and lucky me, it's Taco Tuesday! We got the Mike's meal special, which is too Birria tacos with cheese, consommé, and a side of chips. The mail is $15 but the bonus is that you get an additional Birria taco. My man and I added on an additional vegetarian taco and it was enough food for both of us to split and be very happy. It was a tough pic for me, but I actually preferred the veggie taco just a little bit more and my man preferred the Birria, but both were definitely slamming. The consommé was out of this world and it's a big enough serving that comes with the Mike's meal that you could honestly split it with four people. It was way more than enough for both of us. This is a fast casual restaurant. It was exceptionally clean. These places do have a little bit of a sterile type of environment, but we were in out and on with our lives in about 45 minutes and the place was very busy. Would absolutely return.

Diamond B.

I thought this place was delicious! I ordered only so can't speak for the location, but this is some of the best birria I've had. The meat was juicy and had a good balance of cheese. The consome had really good flavor without being too oily. Only con is the price for me; $17-20 dollars on tacos feels a bit steep, but I'd pay it again for the quality honestly. The chips in the Mike's Meal were really good as well!

Decided to visit this birria taco spot while in Pt Loma. They have a large following and great customer base. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a cashier named Axel. He smiled and we needed a few minutes to review the menu. Once we knew what we wanted we ordered with him. They have a soda fountain as well as a Bang fountain with Mexican Aguas Frescas: Tamarindo, Jamaica, and my favorite Horchata. The flavors are great and the horchata is creamy and good. We ordered: 1 Mike's Special - 2 red (birria) tacos, tortilla chips, a large side of guacamole, a bowl of consume, and a drink ($15), 2 a la carte carne asada tacos, 1 California Burrito with Birria meat, and 2 fountain drinks and a water cup. The place is very lively and is decorated well to match the hype vibe. There are about 8-10 tables available for about 50-55 people to sit inside. There are several awards / honorable mentions on the wall to highlight how well this brand has grown, impressive. Our food was ready at the pickup counter in about 6mins and it was VERY WELL PREPARED. The woman that I picked it up from has a smile on her face as well. This made me happy about eating here. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. I recommend coming out to try their food. Many options for birria and the birria and consume are YESSSS!!!

Quick service in house - at the counter or via one of two self-service machines. Really enjoyed the interior, which is efficient and not too overbearing but still fun. They're right - the orange salsa is DELICIOUS! Portion sizes are robust and definitely priced well. We'll be back!

Two birria tacos

I came in on a weekend to check out Mikes Red Tacos. Obviously, busy but manageable. I ordered 2 birria tacos to go. The cashier was super friendly and the entire crew were working in a frenzy pace. The space was clean and modern. One of the stand outs for me was the salsa bar. A great selection with good chunky salsas. Nice spicy kick with great flavors. I didn't realize it till I left, but I forgot to order a consommé. Totally unnecessary because the tacos were so juicy. Overall, great flavors and service. I love this spot!

Their cakes may be pricey, but…read morein my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did .
