An excellent downtown Princeton barbershop. Sports vibe with multiple TV's on. Both Mike and Jessie have done a great job with this older gentleman's thick beard trim, and what little hair I have left - some on the sides. On the beard - first a trimmer, then hot lather on my neck. Good job, guys! Oh....and always offer me an espresso as well. read more

The quality at this place is suboptimal. If you prefer a clean, classy cut, I'd recommend going elsewhere. Attaching a photo of what they consider a good haircut - uneven, botched read more

Mike's Barber Shop - haircut - Barbers Near Me - Princeton, New Jersey

I asked for half an inch all around, he proceeds to cut off well over an inch of hair, two weeks before my sisters wedding which I mentioned. I cannot stress this enough worst hair cut I've ever received. I could tell the guy wanted to be anywhere else and half assed it read more

Absolutely amateur barbershop. Head barber cannot listen to instructions. No technique. Horrible service. Let me preface by saying that I used to cut men's hair, so I prefer to use the proper vocabulary when instructing a barber what I want in a haircut. Instructions given to Mike (head barber) were mid skin fade on the sides and back. This means the shortest length of the fade is a zero-guard (0 inch) and longest length of the fade was instructed to be a five-guard (5/8th inch). This barber shop does not even own a foil shaver, which is the proper tool to get a close zero-guard cut. The head barber also ignored my instruction of 5/8th inch at the top of the fade and proceeded to take it all the way down to 1/4th of an inch. While fading, the man didn't even use a guideline to cut my hair... he just freehanded everything which leads to an uneven cut!! He also does not know how the clipper-over-comb method to cater to longer fade hair lengths. This shows the complete lack of skill needed to even be a competent barber. I then instructed him that my current hairstyle is a combover, and I'd like 1 inch off the top of my head everywhere, evenly. He proceeded to not even touch the back and top area of my head. Brother then cut off more than an inch off the FRONT of my head only and did so in one straight scissor snip. Now it looks like I have a bowl cut. Completely absurd. Bowl cuts are what you see people from SuperCuts give to 8 year olds... crazy that this guy claims to be cutting hair for 26 years but only knows how to do this. On top of the complete amateur skillset demonstrated, I had an appointment scheduled for 3PM. I show up at 2:55PM. The guy isn't even there. I had to get one of his female co-barbers to text him to show up. The guy shows up at 3:15PM with a coffee in hand. Points to me and asks, "you with me?" No apology for being late or anything. Advertised time slot for a men's haircut is 30 minutes. I sit down at 3:15PM and he says he's done at 3:30PM. What a clown. There needs to be an option to leave a 0 star review for places that truly deserve it - like Mike's Barbershop. Avoid this place like the plague. Go to Nassau Barbers or University Barber. They're both in downtown Princeton, cheaper, and won't sheer your hair off like you're a sheep. Oh yeah, these guys are stuck in the 1990's too because they only accept cash. Get with the times brother. read more

I got a long hair cut with the sides shaved by Bruno. The parting was sloppy (wobbly lines) and was also visibly uneven between either sides. I was told beforehand that my haircut would cost more than usual, but it definitely didn't constitute a $60 charge for some layers and uniform shaved sides imo. read more

Pretty good professional cuts here. Had cuts from Mike and an associate here over the course of the past few months. Always professional and complete in a timely manner. Conversations are good and friendly. They listen to what you want and have been able to comply with what I've asked for. Sometimes the wait can be long if only one barber is in office. Generally in the mornings it can be a little longer of a wait. Street metered parking can be a bit of a pain. It's not hard to find it off the main drag, it just depends on how far you want to walk. It's also old school meters so you will need pocket change. read more

Mike's a good guy but honestly he's got to chill out with the drinking. Got my hair cut the other day and he wreaked of alcohol, chopped half my sideburn off, and did not listen to instructions. I went here for years but will not return as this was a terrible experience. read more

It's always hard to find a good barber to cut Asian hair since moving to NJ. Mike, Chris has been a pleasure to go to. They are friendly and always does a great job. They even do your neckline with hot shaving cream and straight razor. Only docked a star because I feel that children should be paying children's fare and not full adult price. read more

Came to Mike's Barber Shop yesterday to get a haircut right before I got my senior yearbook pictures taken. The wait was non-existent and the haircut was done in no time. Mike cut my hair, and boy did he do an amazing job. I swear I couldn't've asked for anything better. Definitely recommend going! read more

I'm sort of "married to this place" because a friend of mine pre-paid for 10 haircuts for me here. But it's great, especially if you're into New York area sports. Today I knocked on the door as he was closing and he*still*let me in for a haircut. I got my cut and, don't tell my wife but he gave me a beer too. read more

This place is fantastic! Great hair cut, baseball memorabilia, great music and espresso! Mike is a great barber. I showed him a picture of a haircut that I got a few months back and he made it happen. I did not feel rushed or uncomfortable at all. He offered me a coffee as soon as I sat down and we talked baseball for a quick minute. I don't have a whole Lotta hair left but his attention to detail has definitely made me a loyal customer. The price was right @ $22 for a mans haircut not unreasonable at all for a great job. I would definitely recommend Mikes's thanks so much! read more

1. Didn't honor the photo I showed him. The result is completely different from the photo, even the length is much shorter. 2. Cut my neck and didn't tell me. I found blood spots on my shirt collar after I returned home. Shirt ruined. read more

I just moved from NYC. Decided to check out Mike's based on all of the glowing reviews, and it did not disappoint! Olivia took her time and did a phenomenal job. Looking forward to my next cut! read more

I'm fifteen minutes into my haircut on a Sunday afternoon, right before closing, when Mike and some of his friends come back into the store. Five or so of them, none of them wearing masks. They're so drunk that Mike is slipping on the hair that's on the floor. One of them, the man getting his hair cut, is shouting, "Trump! Trump! Trump! Trump!" He reacts with disgust when the TV turns on to CNN, demanding the channel be changed away from "fake news". They proceed to shout and aspirate all over the small space, play U2, and when the music changes, demand "none of those sensitive songs." This is my first haircut at a barbershop since I started practicing isolation in March. I wish I'd continued cutting my own hair. COVID is real. The people dying from it are real. I believe you disrespect them and you disrespect your fellow Americans when you conduct business in this way. What might have been fun pre-pandemic has to adjust now, your inconveniences be damned. I have relayed this story to everyone I know in Princeton who gets their hair cut here. It's simply not worth the risk and business given. My hair looks great. read more

Been getting my haircut here for years. I'm a tough case cause I have a birth defect bald spot on the side if my head, I have about 7 cowlicks, and I'm a pain in the ass. They do the best job ever. Mad skills. Plus free beer. read more

Mike's Barber Shop - Can't see the bald spot on the side of my head. Amazing job - Barbers Near Me - Princeton, New Jersey

Mike is the man. I have extremely stiff Asian hair that is very difficult to cut, but Mike always makes my hair look fantastic. Service is quick and the atmosphere is relaxed. Have yet to find a better barber anywhere. read more

Came to NY from Missouri to pick up my 92 yr old Dad from PR after the hurricane on an emergency basis, my Dad a retired US soldier is used to see me looking sharp, I was driving from the airport and decided I better get a haircut, look in Yelp for a Barber Shop and saw Mike's Barber shop great ratings. I highly recommend this Barber Shop, great service, great hospitality.... by the way they love the Yankees and they did not mind having me visit knowing I am a St Louis Baseball Cardinals fan. read more

It is a great barber shop! The staff are professional and friendly. If you an adult, you can drink either coffee or beer; if you a boy, you can have some candies only if you parents permit. read more

My last two visits have been bad experience. The first barber left hair too long and unevenly cut. The second time I booked an appointment, but the barber (a different one) clearly had just taken another client 1 min before my appt.time (I was 3 min early), so I had to wait for half an hour until that client was done. The cut was shorter but not necessary better because it was very rushed this time, and I don't think it was worth the $30 that they charge, especially given the circumstances. read more

This place is awesome! Everyone is friendly and I love the ambiance. Lots of sports stuff, and flat screen TVs everywhere make it unique. Mike is the first chair on the left. read more

Easily the best in Princeton, which unfortunately doesn't say much considering how lousy most of the competition is. Had a few cuts here, always solid, never great. I guess the cost of a haircut in Princeton is what it is, but it still drives me nuts that I could get a great cut and shave at my old barbershop in Brooklyn for 15 bucks. Oh well. Mike does a good job, if you must get a haircut in Princeton, do it here. read more

Mike is awesome and your best option in Princeton by a long shot. As others note his shop is very comfortable and inviting even if you need to wait for 15 mins on a busy weekend. You'll get espresso and donuts in the am and a whiskey or beer in the pm. Mike also does a great job with kids, setting them at ease. My boy hated the barber till we came here and Mike gave him a Yankees baseball card. He was hooked and happily comes now. read more

Our son just got a fantastic haircut at Mike's. What an awesome barber shop! The game was on, we were offered adult beverages, we admired all of the ways the shop honors the military, and best of all, the haircut was fantastic. He asked our son what he wanted and did exactly that. Thanks, Mike! read more

Mike is a great guy who listens to us moms and therefore my boys always look great when they leave here. It's a clean barbershop, lots of kool things to see on the walls.. Mike's Barber Shop is a down-to-Earth barber shop in the heart of Princeton's downtown. Every time that I have been there, there was a short wait (three to five people ahead of me), and customers were taken on a first come, first served basis. There are a few sofas and chairs in the waiting area. Coffee and donoughts are there to enjoy while waiting. In the afternoon, I have even been offered a beer. Mike is awesome and a very skilled barber. I have found the other barbers to be capable as well. I have never left disappointed with a haircut or the experience. My only complaint is that the place is cash-only, which drives me nuts. read more

Comfortable waiting area plus fast service. Mike gave me a great cut. Would highly recommend.

Wow Mike's is awesome. Old-school barber shop. Great music playing in the background. Super comfortable couches for waiting. Real neighborhood feel, as people pop in the shop to say hi. You can tell Mike is a really cool, good guy. Don't go anywhere else in Princeton. It's $20 at the two other shops in town, and $25 at Mike's (for students), but it's more than worth it. While waiting for a chair to open up, I could tell that the entire staff were willing to spend as much time as it took to get their customers' hair exactly right. read more

DONT GO HERE! I went here and it was the worst haircut of my life. On top of that they charged way too much for the haircut. Don't recommend!!! read more

Does a good job doing a Marine flat top. The shop is very clean and well-kept. The restroom is also very clean and well stocked

Great place! I needed a quick clean up and sat in Olivia's chair - I highly recommend her! The shop had the World Cup on the tv and while I was nervous I would sit in the chair and be unable to watch, I was all set up with a screen right in front of me. I appreciated the service and the fact that I did not feel rushed out of the chair whatsoever. Mike thanked me for stopping in on my way out the door, adding a great old school touch to my visit. I wish I had this place in my home state! read more

I came in just two days before Christmas and the atmosphere was certainly festive as Mike had set up an open bar. There were a number of folks who seemed to have come in just for the social environment. The wait was a bit long with just Mike and two other employees working that afternoon. The person who cut my hair was friendly but not the most skilled barber I have had before; the short hair work was fine but when it came to shaping the top (which is longer), there was a lack of skill. The general feel of the place was a bit dirty with noticeable wear to furniture and corners where hair seemed to have collected over the years. The price was a bit high given the location and the atmosphere of the place. Overall, there was nothing especially wrong but also nothing to bring me back. read more

I went to Mike's after getting butchered at another barber shop. The woman who cut my hair at Mike's did a remarkable job of making me look presentable again. She said she wanted to do a good job because "the way you look is a reflection upon me" and I'm confident she wasn't just saying that. Mike's is easily the best barber shop in Princeton. read more

I recently moved from North Jersey where there is a barber shop on every corner. I went to another place that's supposed to high-end, and they screwed up my hair! I decided it was time to seek out a local barber, and I found Mike's Barber Shop! Well, the search is over, this place is comfortable, inviting, and super friendly. Mike took care of me, and cut my hair the right way. I'm so happy I found this shop, I'll be a regular here, and so will my son! read more

A really cute, really friendly place. Not only will you get a really great haircut, but also a cold beer or a hot coffee!

The price was a little high, but I got a decent hair cut. I don't think I'd come back to this location. The other barbers in the area charge the same rate, but they have added value like comfortable waiting rooms, quality instruments, or comfortable chairs. This place is kind of buried with other businesses. Its crazy dark in there... If you walk in from the outside consider bringing a flashlight. As you enter, and make your way through the narrow corridor, you'll see a row of chairs with the waiting area just to the left. The lights hanging from the ceilings over the chairs is the only light in the shop, so the waiting area is in the dark. When you're getting your hair cut the light over the chair is so bright that it's hard to see yourself in the dirty mirror. But, my barber was nice and my hair cut came out okay. So yah... read more

When you walk into this welcoming, laid back barber shop you are greeted with donuts and an espresso. For me, that just rocked! There were only two barbers and a few people waiting when i arrived. I was most amazed by how they treated each person as though they were the only person in the shop. Somehow with this level of attentiveness, they still moved swiftly and kept the wait time reasonable. Most importantly, they did a great job on my noble and partially balding crown. They informed me that they cut kids hair also...with all the goodies (lollipops, gum, SI swimsuit edition), I can see they are well prepared for families. This is going to be my new spot for my bald spot going forward. read more

This place is tucked away inside a little outdoor atrium by Tico's Juice Bar. There's a barber pole in the corner that tells you where the door is, and it opens onto a surprisingly spacious shop. They do a good job, and haircuts include a free neck shave. My haircut was $22, which is a bit steep, but seems to be par for the course for barbers downtown. read more

This was my first time here but I felt welcomed. I came in as a walk in on a Saturday and expected a bit of a wait. I was surprised there was none and I sat right down in a chair. The place is nice and clean. There's TVs to watch and also there was coffee while you waited. Overall my haircut was great, especially for someone that's never seen me before. The only thing that knocked it down a star was my sideburns weren't even. Which in reality I wish I could only knock down a half star because I was able to fix it when I got home, but they don't let you do that. I will definitely go back next time I'm in town! Have gone back twice now and love this place. Would recommend to everyone. read more
