As far as I know, Turnertoys is the only truly full line toy store in Vermont. They have a full range of selections from the mass-market popular toys (Legos, Playmobil, Thomas trains) to the latest ingenious specialty toys, brainteasers, and board games. They even have a fairly full line of old-fashion hobby supply, including model kits (including the original Guillow balsa airplane models), balsa wood, tools, glue, CO2 rockets, too much to mention. The store is large enough to allow a neat, orderly layout, so it is easy to see what they have. It really helps that Peter, the owner, and his staff are experts on everything they sell, and can answer questions intelligently. There is even room for a large activities room, where the store hosts play events for kids every week. The kids can try new toys, improve their art skills, and just have group fun. It reminds me of a miniature FAO Schwarz, staffed by the owner and his friends and family. Definitely worth a trip to Essex.

My only complaint is that there is a faint smell that I can only know too well: boy smell. It's not the most pleasant smell, but I suppose it could also be worse. I feel like the business could use an air freshener. Maybe I'm just fussy. Nevertheless, this is still a good spot to have fun!
